<div>My heart breaks as I write this. My dear friend Vanessa and her family lost everything in the devastating Palisades fire. Her family home, passed down for generations, is gone. The place where she raised her two autistic boys and cared for their animals has been reduced to ashes.

I met Vanessa when I first moved to Topanga Canyon and lived in her airstream temporarily while recovering from a car crash. Family of two Autistic Children Lose Everything in Fire

<div>We are raising funds for our friends <strong>Gilbert and Anyes Sonet</strong> whose 21-year-old son Noah was stabbed on Amtrak on his way to UC Davis.

<div>Noah was stabbed in the heart, lung, and arm. Thankfully, he could push his assailant, flee a few yards, and collapse in the conductor's cabin. Bleeding profusely he arrived at the Fairfield station where the ambulance was waiting.

<div>Noah was rushed to the ER of North Bay Medical. The trauma surgeon performed an open heart surgery to stitch his heart. He was put in an artificial coma until they could remove the ventilator tube from his throat. They removed his heart and lung drains on the 4th day.

<div>He was discharged to receive home healthcare, and a medical team is coming daily. It will take a few months for Noah to recover fully.
</div>

<div>Gilbert and Anyes never imagined this could happen to their kid; it was the longest, most frightening hours of their life. They are so thankful for the people who came to rescue Noah. <div>Seit nun fast 7 Jahren kämpft unsere Familie mit schweren gesundheitlichen Problemen. Ich habe einen angeborenen Herzfehler und musste mich einer schwierigen Operation unterziehen, damit unsere drei Kinder nicht ohne ihre Mama aufwachsen.

<div>Heute geht es mir soweit ganz gut, ich bin zwar nicht gesund, komme aber zurecht.

<div>Vor etwa zweieinhalb Jahren bekam unsere Tochter die Diagnose Hautkrebs, schon das war ein sehr schwere Zeit für uns, doch glücklicherweise wurde der Krebs früh entdeckt. Sahra-Marie ist o.k., steht aber unter ständiger ärztlicher Beobachtung.

David, unser Jüngster, der Autist ist und sich mit neuen Situationen sowieso schwer tut, bekam die erschütternde Diagnose Osteosarkom im rechten Oberschenkel, dies ist ein bösartiger, aggressiver Knochenkrebs. Nach vielen kräftezehrenden Chemotherapien in Innsbruck wurde letzte Woche eine Operation in Krems durchgeführt, in die wir viel Hoffnung gesetzt hatten.

<div>Die Realität, mit der wir nun konfrontiert sind, ist hart: David wird nie wieder mit anderen Kindern laufen, Trampolin springen, Skifahren, rodeln oder Radfahren können. Er wird auf einen Rollstuhl oder Gehhilfen angewiesen sein, da er sein Bein nicht nutzen kann. Die Vorstellung, dass unser Sohn nicht mehr die Dinge tun kann, die er liebt, ist nahezu unerträglich. Doch damit nicht genug: Es folgen nun mindestens noch einmal doppelt so viele Chemotherapien wie vor der OP, um zu verhindern, dass sich weitere Metastasen im Körper bilden. Wir wissen nicht, woher wir die Kraft nehmen sollen, das alles noch einmal durchzustehen, die Zeit ist extrem herausfordernd und schmerzhaft für uns alle.

<div>Zusätzlich zu Davids gesundheitlichen Herausforderungen müssen wir auch unser langjähriges Zuhause verlassen. Das Haus, in dem wir leben und das wir mit viel Liebe und Eigenleistung umgebaut und renoviert haben, wurde vererbt, und die neue Eigentümerin hat neue Pläne.

<div>Wir stehen nun neben der Pflege unseres schwerkranken Kindes vor der Aufgabe, schnell eine behindertengerechte Alternative zum Wohnen zu finden oder eben entsprechend umzubauen.

Support the Campos Family in Their Loss

<div>Ten-year-old <strong>Ismael (Izzy) and his mother Carmen Santamaria</strong> are two of the most beautiful souls you may ever meet, and they are facing the unthinkable.

<div>Last August (2023), Izzy complained of a pain in his leg, and his mother took him to the doctor, followed by the emergency room, and they began a journey no child should ever face. Izzy was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in his leg. Izzy and Carmen kept their spirits high, and with the help of their family and community, together, they endured surgery and chemotherapy. In April of 2024, they celebrated. Izzy rang the bell, Carmen threw him an amazing 10th birthday party, and they began to settle back into normal life. Izzy returned to school this fall, he played on a baseball team once again with many of his old teammates, and Carmen returned to work.

<div>Then a few weeks ago, Izzy's scans showed some abnormalities, and this beautiful family was given the news they never wanted to hear. <strong>Izzy's cancer is back and it has spread.</strong> This time, his journey back to health is longer, harder, and ultimately it will be more expensive. <strong>Please help us show Izzy and Carmen that they are not alone.</strong> They have an entire community, and beyond, who love them and are rooting for them.
