<div>Heather was diagnosed in early 2022 with Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) — a rare lung disease that mostly affects women and has no known cure. After years of procedures, hospital stays, and lung collapses, unfortunately the disease has progressed to the point that she now needs a double lung transplant.

<div>Heather is truly one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet. As a massage therapist, she’s helped countless others heal with her calming presence and incredible energy. Now it’s our turn to show up for her.

<div>We’re raising at least $50,000 to help Heather and her husband Ryan with:

Help Heather Fight LAM with a Double Lung Transplant

<div>After almost 5 years of battling Ocular Melanoma, Stef recently received the heartbreaking news that her ocular melanoma has spread to her liver. This stage 4 cancer is not curable, but there are treatments that can help. Despite the diagnosis, Stef has faced every challenge with remarkable strength and determination.

<div>After consulting with specialists at Froedtert and UW Madison, she has chosen to undergo <a href="https://hepzatokit.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hepzato</a> treatment at UW Madison—the first FDA-approved therapy specifically for metastatic ocular melanoma, delivering high-dose chemotherapy directly to the liver while minimizing exposure to the rest of the body. This treatment offers hope, but it is intense, requiring 6 rounds every 6-8 weeks and then overnight in the ICU. Each treatment is hard on her body, but her care team believes in the positive outcomes.

<div>During this, Stef’s family is also facing another battle. Her mom has been recently diagnosed with stage 4 angiosarcoma and is undergoing chemotherapy at Froedtert, Stef and Matt have opened their home to her parents to provide them with love and support.

<div>Through all of this, one thing remains constant—the incredible community surrounding Stef. The past 4 years, our community has come together for the annual Ocular Melanoma Walk, raising awareness and funds to fight this disease. This year, that walk carries even more meaning. It is a testament to the love, strength, and unwavering support that Stef has from family, friends, and so many who have been touched by her story.

<div>With Stef traveling frequently for treatments, managing medical expenses, and balancing the needs of her family - travel costs, lodging, meals, and ongoing medical care will add up. Our goal is to ease this burden so Stef can focus on health, family, and making the most of time.

Stef’s Vision: Finding a Cure For Ocular Melanoma

As many of you know, Burnhearts has had to close because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). In short, no one was prepared for this and we are devastated. These closures are having dire consequences to the entire service industry. Hospitality workers, those smiling faces that have become an extension of your friends and family, have temporarily lost their jobs. Our industry runs on small margins to begin with and many of us live paycheck to paycheck. Those few bucks you leave at the end of the bar after a fun night out are more than just a token of appreciation, they are the difference between rent paid and unpaid. It's the money we use to eat, take care of ourselves and live.<br /><br />In return of your generous contribution we plan on doing weekly drops of draft beer and other goodies. To redeem you need to drop off your named &amp; self addressed CLEAN growler/vessel by Thursday on Burnhearts front stoop so we have something to fill. We will then deliver beers Fridays/Saturdays weekly until we are out of fresh tap beer. We are not charging for drinks!
