I’m reaching out because I need help catching up on urgent expenses after a very difficult few months. In April, I lost my job at a hospital. In May, I joined an existing private practice in psychotherapy. I’m proud of the work I’m building, but it took a couple of months for my caseload to grow, and during that time my income was not enough to keep up. Evacuating my family from Gaza

<div>I am funding for the evacuation and humanitarian aid of my maternal family, the AbuSitta-Morgan family. All 14 members are descendants and kin of my grandmother Aisha who would be proud to know that we are reaching out across worlds to ask for help. It's been over 5 months of the ongoing genocide and we, Palestinians in the safety of the west, are being faced with the horrific reality of ongoing Nakba and forced displacement being practiced on our families still living in Gaza today.

<div>Following the invasion of Gaza, in early December, our family was forced to evacuate their neighborhood by leaflets dropped from IDF Airforces stating the area would zone become a fighting zone for IDF. By then, they had already experienced one air attack on their neighborhood that targeted a nearby building, which they thankfully survived. They were living as all 14 members in Khan Yunis which was recently subjected to massacare and ground invasion by occupation forces.

<div>They are now displaced into Rafah, living in horrid conditions, and have no real choice of returning to their homes safely soon. The lives of my uncles and aunts and their children is at risk. So I am funding for their evacuation into Egypt. Adult evacuation at the Rafah border cost $6,500 and children's evacuation cost is $3,500. The rest of the funds will go towards transportation costs and support with their living expenses and resettling expenses in Egypt.

<div>If for any reason, their departure is unsuccessful, the money will go into survival materials which have gotten extremely expensive and difficult to acquire (e.g. flour, canned foods, dipers, basic living supplies, etc.)

<div>We met a middle eastern man in his 30’s at Melbourne first queer iftar. Visiting from his home country, his family in Melbourne discovered he was queer, stole his savings they were currency converting for him (“better it go elsewhere than support your depraved lifestyle”), and kicked him out. His family back home have also rejected him, and threatened him with death if he returns as that would be better than the shame he would bring upon them. He is going through the protection visa process, which takes months. After stints in hostels, we have secured him accommodation for May, whilst his application is processed. We are fundraising to support him in this terrible time, as he goes through the asylum process. *Photo blurred for his protection.

a queer middle eastern man’s quest for asylum

<div>On Friday, Xero had a seizure at home and had to be rushed to emergency where he had another later that night. After spending all weekend with the emergency team and becoming more stable we were looking forward to having him home but have since had to take him back for monitoring. Thankfully he has not had another seizure since but his condition isnt improving and without a known cause the next step is to have an MRI tomorrow, which we have been quoted from $3000-$5000, on top of our emergency bill. Seeing him like this has been completely devastating for both Kat and I, and it wont be a quick road to recovery so we're needing to turn to our friends and community for some help. Xero's lived such an amazing life and made so many friends, if you're able to contribute anything at all we would be so incredibly grateful.

<div>We were instant buddies the first day my girlfriend, Izzy, introduced us. I've been very grateful that I get to hang out all day, every day, with my best friend as I've worked from home throughout this pandemic. She sleeps on the job and asks for snacks all day, but she's still been the best co-worker, ever!

<div>Noodlez has had an arduous medical journey. She initially developed an ear infection that, at various stages, seemed like we were treating effectively, but never went away. The emotions have ranged from elation when we seemed to be making progress, to the dejection we felt when it came back.

<div>Since this started, Noodlez has been treated by six different vets, only two of which Izzy and I have actually met in person because of this pandemic. We still haven't physically met her current doctors and I don't think I've ever gotten used to this part. <br /><br />It got really bad with her first dermatologist, who didn't seem to care much about Noodlez, and continued with medications that we all knew weren't working. She didn't change her treatment plan, for some reason, and in the end, she told us that a <a href="https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/total-ear-canal-ablation-and-bulla-osteotomy-tecabo" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TECABO surgery</a> was our only option. In short, it is a very expensive surgery that involves a complete removal of her ear canal and middle ear. She will be deaf in that ear, but much more comfortable and pain free.<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/61621613_1639206861332863_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="61621613_1639206861332863_r.jpeg" /><br /><br />

<div>We consulted with a surgeon, who agreed that a TECABO was necessary, but refused to operate on Noodlez because her ear infection was so bad, she was worried she'd bleed out on the operating table. I very vividly remember Izzy and I crying our eyes out as we felt like we were saying our goodbyes to our girl.
</div>

</div>

<div>This surgeon then referred us to Noodlez's current specialists as a last resort. We were once again hopeful as they told us that they were confident they could effectively treat this without surgery.
</div>

</div>

<div>Since then, we have aggressively attacked this in many different ways. It hasn't been cheap and I've maxed out a credit card paying for these treatments, but it seemed like we were beating this thing and we had our girl back, so that made it feel worth it. I do believe this current clinic exhausted all options before ultimately deciding that the <a href="https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/total-ear-canal-ablation-and-bulla-osteotomy-tecabo" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TECABO</a> is still needed. I get it, knowing we can't keep her on steroids and antibiotics, forever. She's in a much better place for surgery, now, than she was before, but the infection has also opened up a drainage tract on her face and limited movement in her jaw.
</div>

<div>Because of this, we are wary of taking her out to her favorite places. We miss taking her to the dog park, street fairs, breweries, the beach, all of our friends' houses, etc. She LOVES people and meeting new faces so much! I know she misses that.

<div>We've tried many different ways to raise the money needed to pay for this surgery and all her other vet visits and meds. Izzy has done extra photoshoots. We've sold our collectibles. I've sold stock and also tried investing in this stock or this crypto coin, trying to catch a wave, but to no avail.

<div>Asking for financial help is something I felt like I just couldn't do, for some reason, and it's still hard to do as I type this. How do you just let your best friend suffer because of pride, though? I've thought about the alternative, but how do you just give up on your best friend and end her life? She's otherwise a healthy, happy dog and I feel like she has a lot of life left in her.
