He was a husband, a father of three sons, a small business owner, and the heart of his family. He was the kind of man who showed up: for his family, for his friends, for his neighbors, and on every job he ever took.

Lorenzo and wife met when they were just teenagers and had been together ever since, building a life, a home, and a family side by side over 35 years in the United States together. <div>Above everything, Lorenzo was a devoted father to his three sons. He worked as hard as he did so that his boys could have more than he had, so that their futures could be brighter than his own beginnings. Everything he built, he built for them. <div>After a slow summer season, during the opening weekend of what promised to be the biggest film of the year, a make-or-break weekend for us after many months of struggle, our oldest digital projector went dark in the Rose Theatre.

<div>We've met our first goal and installed new servers on two of our projectors, but <strong>we've still got a long way to go</strong>. Servers are just one small component of our projection system and since our digital projectors are no longer being made our entire fleet of projectors will need to be replaced in full. New projectors will cost over $150,000.

<div>Cinemas everywhere have been battered by streaming, COVID shutdowns, and the actors/writers strike. Historic arthouse and independent theatres have taken the worst of it, and many, across the nation, have closed their doors forever.

The Rose Theatre Needs You

<div>Unfortunately, the cancer is back, fairly aggressive, and is requiring intensive treatment. So far she's been hospitalized three times, has had two surgeries, has undergone radiation, and is in the process of a chemo and immunotherapy mix.

Momma Fay's Cancer is Back :(

<p>On August 19th, <strong>Members of BCTGM Local 1 </strong>in Chicago, IL went on strike against Nabisco.  While on strike these workers did not receive <br />any pay.  The strike ended  September 18, 2021.  I would like to thank everyone for all their help and donations.<br />My name is Donald Woods I'm the organizer of the gofundme account and President of Local Union No. 1. The monies will be shared <br />among the actual strikers that were on the picket lines to help them out during that difficult time and pay for equipment such as porta <br />potties.  I will be paying out the money in the form of checks or gift cards and will be mailed to the strikers or they can pick it up. <br /><br />

If they do, they will not resuscitate in the event of heart failure. Doctors rejected the family's idea for a lung transplant because they don't think he would survive the surgery. His family (and all of us) disagree with the decision to end his life-support, but according to the hospital, they don't need their permission. In general, they are concerned with "patient comfort and dignity". <br /><br />While I am speaking for myself, I am confident that I can also speak for anyone that knows him. Nelson has not only been one of the best family members/friends we have, but also one of the best people we know. He is kind, fun, honest, caring, generous, selfless, funny, supportive, and so much more. He is heroic. He is a survivor. He is ALIVE and fighting for his life and he needs all of our help. He went back for his great-uncle who was still inside, but the smoke was too much for him, and sadly, ultimately too late for his great-uncle. <br /><br /><strong>Nelson is HEROIC.</strong><br /><br />Four months later in September, Nelson contracted Covid-19. He quarantined for two weeks and was later admitted to the hospital because he was having trouble breathing. The first hospital was not equipped to care for him, and he was transferred to Washington Hospital Center (WHC) in DC. There, he was connected to an ECMO machine to help his lung function (the ECMO machine is pumping blood from his body to an artificial lung (oxygenator) that adds oxygen to it and removes carbon dioxide, essentially replacing his lungs). He's had pneumonia multiple times, kidney failure, and infections from the ECMO machine. While he has been heavily sedated at times, he has also been responsive. He opened his eyes when he heard his foster mother call his name during a recent video call, and responded to "yes/no" questions asked by his brother by squeezing his hand.<br /><br /><strong>Nelson is a FIGHTER.</strong><br /><br />His family is searching for a hospital that will provide the lung transplant and a lawyer to work with them because they, we all believe he deserves better. The best care. To keep living. He deserves a chance at more than 36 short years of life.<br /><br /><strong>Nelson is ALIVE.</strong><br /><br />What can we do?<br /><br />Donate and share this fundraiser. Justice for Nelson

On December 24th, Tyler had suffered from a serious accident and fractured his neck. We are so pleased to share that he is awake, talking, alert and recovering at a hospital in Seattle. Unfortunately, his injury has resulted in damage to his spinal cord, and affects will not be known for some time. We have had some positive progress on his condition – he is feeling tingling in his hands and can move his arms which is a great sign. We all know that Tyler is a strong and determined young man, and he will give 1000% to his rehabilitation in the coming months. <br /><br />The road ahead may be long and there are many unknowns. One thing we know for sure is that we all want Tyler to have the very best care. Robin's Unexpected Funeral Expenses

We’ve been waiting on our unemployment for months. Caught up in red tape. I’ve been kicked out of my house, I owe months of back rent, and have various other bills that have been stacking up. We started this process in March...my job got shut down with a few days warning. Wasn’t prepared for months of this. I’m sleeping on my dad’s couch in NY so I have a roof. But he doesn’t have much money so I still need to be able to feed myself and try to pay back what I owe. Anything helps. Your charity is greatly appreciated

My name is Maria and I’m a 20-year-old undocumented student living in the United States. Growing up in South Florida I was able to graduate high school with a 3.8 GPA and a Medical Assistant Certification from the school’s technical college. <br /><br />Last year, I was given the opportunity to attend Florida Atlantic University where I am pursuing the education of my dreams. Additionally, I was granted an internship opportunity tutoring children in STEM related fields. At their Wilkes Honors College, I am studying to complete a degree in Biological Anthropology with a Pre-Med track. <br /><br />I have lived in the United States for the past 15 years. When I was five-years-old, my parents made the life-changing decision to flee Venezuela to provide me with greater opportunities and a shot at a better life. Since then, my parents and I have resided in Florida, where I work and study with hopes that we could reach the “American Dream.”<br /><br />As a family, we have learned to cherish all the opportunities this country has given us,  including expanding our family — my little brother was born here and is a U.S. Citizen. <br /><br />Unfortunately, the biggest obstacle we’ve all had to live with is the path to obtaining legal residency causing us to run the risk of deportation under Donald Trump’s cruel immigration policies.<br /><br />Even worse, because of my lack of status — no, I am not a beneficiary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program — is making my journey through the higher education system particularly challenging.<br /><br />Due to my status, I am ineligible for federal or state financial assistance, leaving the cost of attending Florida Atlantic squarely on my shoulders. My parents have been struggling after having to routinely change jobs given the coronavirus outbreak in Florida, adding even more pressure for me to come up with the funds to cover the cost of each semester.<br /><br />I have been able to develop a plan that will decrease the cost of tuition moving on including a cheaper meal plan and housing. We live in Nashville, TN on 7 acres close to my Mom and my sister and her family. <br /><br />I'm not one who likes to ask for money.  So for me to do this doesn't make me very comfortable but we need help. <br /><br />We were preparing to get ready to search and adopt a little girl to join our family when in October 2018 my wife, at 33 years old was diagnosed with stage 3 ER-positive breast cancer. In this last year she has fought this holistically, we have been to many breast surgeons and Oncologists to find the right fit. She has had surgery to remove her ovaries to stop more estrogen in hopes of shrinking the tumor. She is now on hormone inhibitors with a plan her Oncologist believes is the best route for shrinking the tumors so that a mastectomy is possible to finally get rid of this monster that's come into our lives over this last year. These hormone treatments are not cheap compared to chemo. Her Doctor said that Chemo would only have about a 10% chance of working on these types of tumors and these hormone treatments have a higher chance of shrinking them.<br /><br />With all of that said her Oncologist and Breast surgeon have been working as a team. They are based in Knoxville and we're in Nashville. The trips to Knoxville obviously cost us each visit we have to go. She has had various MRI's, CT scans, blood work, etc. I have insurance through my job but it is a high deductible plan. I was able to keep up with these bills up until 6 months ago they're just piling up.  She's due for another MRI this month to check on the progress and see if the current treatment is working.  It seems like each day a new bill comes in from somewhere from someone for something. It's just too much. I am really praying this fund raising can help us.

Aly's Cancer Treatment Expenses

On Saturday, May 25, 2019 around 10:30pm our 3 bedroom trailer home was directly hit by an E-F3 deadly tornado. Myself (Preston Black), my wife Lena Black, 5 of our 6 children &amp; my parents were inside when it hit us. We lost everything we own. Our home was completely obliterated by the tornado. Everyone was injured, my wife &amp; I sustained very serious injuries. I have 4 broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a shoulder fracture &amp; collar bone dislocation. My wife has 9 broken ribs, a fractured shoulder, a fractured pelvis &amp; a broken collarbone. We are both hospitalized @ OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. <br />I am raising funds for my family because we have nowhere to live now, no vehicle as it was totaled from the tornado winds. We have to basically start over which would be impossible due to me &amp; my wife's injuries so we are unable to work. Funds for medical bills will also be needed.
