<div>It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Alvin Godfrey Castro Jr. He unexpectedly went home to Heaven on April 21st, 2024, at 5:21 PM, while he was still at Queen’s medical center.

<div>On April 14th, Our dad had to get transported to Queen’s medical center on O’ahu due to medical concerns regarding his heart. In the coming days of him being at Queen’s medical center, he continued to receive his dialysis treatments to pull excess fluids so that the medical team would be able to complete his heart surgery safely and efficiently. During this time, he also had additional testing completed to determine why his troponin levels were continuing to rise as the days went by. Our mom, Kristen was able to fly to O’ahu to be by dad’s side on Friday, April 19th, because dad was originally expected to have his heart surgery done on that same day. However, the medical staff at Queen’s decided to postpone his surgery for Monday, April 22nd. The medical staff decided to postpone his heart surgery because dad still had fluids that needed to be removed. Due to hospital protocol, mom was unable to stay with dad in the hospital. So, she would have to leave dad’s bedside by 8:00 PM, and was unable to return until 8:00 AM the following morning. During the time that she could be in the room with him, our mom noticed that something just wasn’t right with the way that dad was acting. Her concerns continued to rise because dad would become discombobulated after he would have his dialysis treatments completed. Being that mom was dad’s primary caretaker, she knew that things weren’t “okay” and continued to advocate for him to the medical staff. After being brushed off by a nurse who insisted that dads behavior was a “normal reaction” after receiving dialysis treatments, our mom finally was able to convince a different nurse to take a closer look and actually observe the way that dad was behaving. To which, that nurse became concerned with what he was seeing, he then proceeded to notify the Doctor and insist that additional testing be completed, STAT. And once again, our dad’s troponin levels shot up to a scary number. On Saturday evening, dad seemed more disoriented than he had been in the previous days that he received treatments.  Yet once again, our mom tried to convince the medical staff to let her stay the night so that she could continue to monitor dad. But unfortunately, she still was not able to stay with him. On Sunday, April 21st, Mom returned to the hospital to which she found dad to be in the same state of disorientation that she had to leave him in the night prior. Continuing to be hopeful, she was then advised that dad’s troponin levels had gotten even higher than they were the previous day. As a result, the medical staff decided to take our dad to conduct a CT scan so that they could see if his overall demeanor was a result of something that was going on neurologically. Unfortunately, the results came back and confirmed that dad had a small stroke on the left side of his brain. The particular area of which the stroke had occurred is linked to his speech. With this newfound information, it confirmed our mom’s suspicions as to why he was behaving the way that he was. As the day went by, dad’s demeanor continued to get progressively worse. He was unable to eat, drink, speak, or take his oral medication. As a result, the medical staff had another IV administered so that they could give dad pain medication and something for nutrition since he was unable to eat on his own. Shortly after, dad went into cardiac arrest. The medical staff was able to get a pulse. He was then supposed to get intubated and moved into ICU. But, he went into cardiac arrest once more. The Queen’s medical staff tried to do CPR for a little over a half an hour. All the while, mom was in the waiting room, grasping onto whatever hope she had left in her, that dad was going to make it….because dad always made it. Except this time, she was met by a Doctor whom was offering his condolences because there was nothing more they could do to bring our dad back.

<div>Being that dad passed away at Queen’s on O’ahu, my siblings and I weren’t able to be by his side during his final moments, because we’re from Hawai’i island. Our mom is still on O’ahu, as she is arranging dad’s final viewing and will also be planning out his celebration of life for a later time.

<div>For those of you who know our mom, you know that she is one of the most kind hearted, hardworking, loving and giving individuals to walk this Earth. She is/was also the main breadwinner of the ‘Ohana, due to dad’s medical concerns. Therefore, she will be out of work until further notice, as she takes care of all of dad’s final arrangements.

<font color="#333333">Aloha everyone, I am sure you may be wondering why my name looks familiar. On April 21, 2024,  I lost my husband, ALVIN GODFREY CASTRO JR. due to having two cardiac arrests At Queens Punchbowl in O’ahu. It has been a hard two months trying find a new normal with trying to find a place myself and my kids. And preparing for his Celebration Of Life. To making sure of kids are doing okay as well as myself. <br /><br />It all changed on June 28th, 2024. That phone call at 7 something in the morning would turn our lives upside down yet again. The conversation that will be forever embedded in my head to the best of what I remember:<br /><br />Officer: Hello, may I speak to Kristen Castro<br />Me: Speaking<br />Officer: This is ….., there has been an accident, do you have a son that works by Puaanahulu at the golf course? <br />Me: Yes<br />Officer: Does your son drive a Acura?<br />Me: Yes<br />Officer: Can you please come to the ER?<br />Me: I’ll be right there ( Panicking kicking in)<br /><br />Reaching to the ER, thinking maybe it’s my son and they need to send him to Honolulu. Trying to stay calm. When I get in the officer says there has been an accident, and he didn’t make it. Can we have you identify him?. To have my heart drop, I said may I wait for all my kids to come so we can all go in. Sure he said. It was just to buy more time for what I may be facing walking in that room. While waiting I notice brown boots and tell the officer while crying. I am 99.9 percent sure that is my son. He says I saw you glance at the boots. When all my kids are there, we go in. Also my son’s girlfriend and her mom came. All of our hearts broke, I confirmed it was indeed my son, ALVIN GODFREY CASTRO III aka “ KOLU BOY” reached out to Kahu Billy Mitchell and he came with another,  Kahu Schutte. And another Aunty. I wanted to have them to pray with us over my son and all of us. We were able to be with him until they picked him up to take him to Kona to the morgue because of the ongoing investigation of this TRAGIC car accident that took my son’s life.<br /><br />From asking questions, my son was just trying to go to work. He was only two minutes away from work. And I do pray the other person to recover and get better. We will go from there. She was going to Kona and turned left on a solid line to go to an open area to pull on the side. She did that when my son was passing by to head to work. He appeared to try and avoid her, but she head on collision with him right before 5am. My poor baby boy I can’t imagine what he was feeling in those moments. A angel on earth stayed with my son to comfort him until the ambulance and police arrived. It was not easy to get him out as he was pinned in his car. He was taken to QUEENS ER in Waimea. Not knowing what was happening early in the morning. They tried to save him, he was pronounced dead at 6:25am. By the time they were able to find who to contact and I got there he was passed away for about an hour. That broke my heart even more because he was alone. I wish I could have been by his side. I would have intercepted that accident so that he could be here today. I would have took his place in a heartbeat. <br /><br />Kolu boy was truly a special young adult, he was Alvin and I’s first baby boy together. He knew how to make anyone comfortable. He was so fun loving and kind hearted and loving. Kolu and his girlfriend are expecting their first baby in October. I am having a granddaughter. And she won’t have her dad here physically because of another person’s actions. He was so excited to become a DAD. Such a handsome young man. We are so proud of what he became. You would have loved him. He is truly missed by so many and so many are heartbroken by his passing. I love you my son, I am sure Dad was there in Heaven waiting for you. <br /><br />With this all being said. I am truly thankful for all of you with all my heart.
