<div>My dear friend Stephen has always been a larger-than-life character who could engage a room with his stories, questionable jokes, and hearty laugh. For over 30+ years, he's been a fixture in the restaurant and wine business in Austin, Texas, bringing people together over great food, fine wine, unforgettable tales, and where there was always room for a solid margarita and some queso. Stephen is the kind of person who thrives on getting a rise out of people, especially when it comes to politics, most know he got that rise out of me many times. He is also an avid storyteller of old Austin and a huge history buff. Whether he's recounting adventures from Castle Hill, talking about Hudson's, sailing on Lake Travis, or sharing his memories of photographing Stevie Ray Vaughan, his passion for the past shines through in every story he tells, giving life to moments most of us have never seen but can vividly imagine through his words. Known for being crass but funny, his humor always finds a way to make you laugh even when you’re having the worst day, and behind that sharp wit is a heart as big as the ocean.

<div>But this past year has been a tough one for him. After being laid off, Stephen was recently hospitalized and diagnosed with Hepatitis. This illness has taken a significant toll on him. He's lost a considerable amount of weight, far more than the b.s. 50 pounds he's mentioned to me, and he can barely stand for more than a few minutes at a time before requiring rest. His eyesight is also deteriorating, adding another layer of difficulty to his already challenging situation.

<div>As many of us have witnessed, Stephen is also a dedicated father to this light of his life, his 11-year-old daughter, whom he is eager to get back to caring for as soon as his health improves. Unfortunately, his illness has made it impossible for him to find work that he can manage while so sick, the bills are beginning to pile up, and savings are dwindling all while the bank is knocking at his door. The added financial stress certainly doesn't help his recovery, and it will be some time before Stephen is healthy enough to work again. At this point, there is a lot to navigate.

<div>Stephen has spent his life serving others—whether through his work in the restaurant industry, on the street with a wine bag over his shoulder, or in a dark cubicle, in the very back office, under one single lamp, fighting for every case of wine to keep his sales team and our customers in stock, now is the time for us to help him.

<div>At a time when Confederate monuments are rightfully coming down all over the country, a new monument — thought to be the largest Confederate monument built in 100 years — has recently been constructed by the Sons of Confederate Veterans in Orange, Texas, a city where approximately 50% of citizens are black.

<div>Adding to the offense, the monument is located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, one of the city's main arteries. The idea that a monument celebrating war and slave states would be built on the road named for a man who dedicated is life to non-violence and racial justice is an affront to Dr. King’s legacy and life’s work.

<div>Both the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Equal Justice Initiative have detailed how Confederate monuments have been installed throughout our country to glorify a culture dominated by racial inequality and oppression. The Confederate Monument of the Wind in Orange, Texas is located on private property, and attempts to discuss the repurposing of the monument have thus far failed. The City of Orange, the local business community, and even a group of local pastors have asked the Sons member who organized the monument's construction, Granvel Block, to consider repurposing the site. But he refuses to engage in dialog.

<div>Given the demographics of Orange and the legacy of Jim Crow there, it's clear that the conspicuous display of the Confederate Flag doesn't reflect or align with community values. The monument's prominent location along Interstate 10 (just a few exits from the Louisiana border) makes it highly visible to drivers as they arrive in the state heading west. It is estimated that 55,000 drivers pass through daily.

<div>Securing space on the billboard that rises above the monument will allow the community of Orange to counteract the monument with anti-racist messages of justice, love, and unity. The words of heroes like Dr. King have much to teach us today.

<p>The Supreme Court just upheld the strictest abortion ban in the nation under SB8 in Texas, effectively putting a ban on abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy. SB8 allows ordinary citizens to sue anyone they believe has received an abortion or helped someone who has in the state of Texas. SB8 barres care for nearly 85% of the state's abortion patients. Abortion is a human right and is a fundamental component of adequate healthcare, period.

<p><strong>UPDATE: WE ARE RAISING MORE MONEY TO ALLOW THE PLANES TO KEEP DOING MORE TURNS.</strong><br /><br />We are coming to you in desperation to conduct an <strong>emergency flight rescue</strong> of 300+ Afghan souls. I have been working alongside humanitarian aid groups, decorated military veterans, and activists on the ground in Kabul, fighting to save people who otherwise have no chance at survival in the Taliban-occupied Kabul.<br /><br />The individuals in question are high-value targets - Afghan men and women who have worked as human rights lawyers, champions of Women’s and LGBTQ rights, journalists, government liaisons, artists, and interpreters - all of whom are at <strong>imminent risk of being executed by the Taliban,</strong> along with their families. We will be taking full family units.<br /><br />If these people do not get rescued as soon as possible, neither they nor their family will make it through the month. The Taliban have a KILL LIST and are going door to door, searching for these people and reportedly <strong>killing them on sight if found</strong>. Every one of these individuals on the manifest have been vetted.<br /><br />Due to the rapidly deteriorating situation in Kabul, this rescue mission will only be possible if $550,000 is raised to fuel 2 airplanes to fly into Kabul from a foreign country.  <strong>If we raise twice the amount ($1,100,000), we’ll do another run. There are enough people in need to make many round-trips with our two airplanes. We will continue multiplying as goals are met. </strong><br /><br />With help from people on the ground in Kabul, and the newfound security of the airport due to increased US presence — we have arranged for a <strong>safe onboarding process</strong>. All of the people who will be boarding the planes have been extensively vetted.<br /><br /><strong>Every $1,500 raised represents a seat on one of the planes, and a life saved.</strong><br /><br /><strong>Please share wide and far, as hundreds of lives are at stake.</strong><br /><br /><strong>FUNDING</strong><br /><br />The money will be paid to and distributed from Raven Advisory, LLC, based in NC.<br /><br />Any overages in funds raised beyond flights will be donated to the International Women’s Media Foundation, who are actively helping with this rescue effort + settlement, to help the people we rescue start a new life. <br /><br />Destinations have been secured to allow our planes safe passage + landing, and locations cannot be disclosed until the flights have arrived safely. FLYAWAY: EMERGENCY AFGHAN RESCUE MISSION

Our Dad, Bob McGill, is a kind and caring man who always goes above and beyond to help others. He loves spending time with his family and loves his job at Allen Honda. He's been selling Honda's for more than 40 years and treats his customers like family. He's even earned the nickname "Honda Bob". <br /><br />On April 7th, our Dad was taken to the hospital with shortness of breath and it was later found that he had Covid-19. This was the beginning of the fight for his life.<br /><br />Within 24hrs, Dad was moved to ICU &amp; placed on the ventilator. His lungs were being effected by the virus, and the medical staff worked diligently to make sure he was given the best chance of survival. There were several other complications while he was on the ventilator, but after 15 days, he was finally taken off and was able to breathe on his own using high-flow oxygen for support. <br /><br />While plans were being made to transfer Dad to a Rehab Facility, a new test revealed a bleed on the left side of his brain. After multiple consults, a surgical procedure wasn't deemed necessary at this time. <br /><br />Today, April 30th, we received a call from the Doctor stating that his respiratory status was not well. We were faced with the possibility that Dad could have to be placed back on the ventilator. Thankfully, he didn't have to be intubated again, but he was placed on a non-invasive ventilation machine. He continues to fight to maintain his oxygen level and we have faith that God will help pull him through this.<br /><br />Bob's family appreciates the outpouring of love, prayers and support. Dad has not given up &amp; neither have we. We are praying that Dad will continue to beat every obstacle that is thrown his way and come back home to us. <br /><br />While Allen Honda has been graciously supportive to Dad &amp; our family, the financial burden of 3+ weeks in ICU is going to be substantial. The donations received will be used as supplemental income to help pay for incoming medical expenses, the long road of recovery that will be ahead, and any additional household expenses that occur during this time. <br /><br />From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you all for your support during this critical time. <br /><br />Updates will be posted as they become available.

Bob McGill (Honda Bob) - Our Fathers Fight

Wade Sanders is in ICU fighting for his life from Covid-19.  Due to this, he is unable to work and provide for his family.  This group is set up to help with bills while his income is not available and all of the expenses acquired during this time (medical bills, etc).  We know that many people are struggling right now and feeling the effects of the economy and this terrible virus.  If you are not able to help, we completely understand.  Your prayers are the most valuable asset at this time!

Refugio Hernandez's daughter, Giovanna La'Rae Hernandez,  was murdered by her mother on January 5, 2017 in the family home. The grandfather, Eustorgio Arellano, also nearly lost his life at the same hands. <br /><br />Given the heinous nature of the horrible crime in their home, they are unable to continue living there. They cannot return to the home, but their lives must go on.<br />They are people of simple means and have spent their lives in the Austin/Buda/Kyle/San Marcos area. They want to be able to buy a new mobile home for a different location. They are unable to do much to help this happen, and are asking for some assistance from you.
