<div>Hello friends, Ollie and Helena here.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Chilli was rushed to the emergency vets after suddenly having a huge seizure. As far as we are aware, he had never had a seizure before.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On the way to the vets, he continued to seize. Over the next several hours, he was in and out of sedation while the vets fought to get the seizures under control. His internal temperature reached 41 degrees centigrade, which is extremely dangerous. Although they managed to bring it down, every time Chilli was woken up, the seizures started again.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The vets made the decision to place Chilli into an induced coma to try to give his brain and body a chance to settle, and to allow the anti-seizure medication time to work.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Sadly, when they tried to wake him again, the medication had not stopped the seizures.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Chilli could not stay sedated long term. It was too dangerous, and the vets needed to find out what was causing the seizures. We were advised that he urgently needed to be transferred to a specialist neurology hospital to give him the best possible chance.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Since then, Chilli has needed emergency out-of-hours veterinary care, urgent medication, oxygen support, a pet ambulance transfer, a vet to stay with him during transport, specialist neurology care, MRI scans, intensive monitoring, anti-seizure medication, steroids, and treatment for suspected brain inflammation.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>He is still in specialist hospital under the care of the neurology team. His prognosis remains guarded, and we do not yet know how long this stage of care will continue or what the final cost will be.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Chilli is insured, because we have always tried to do the responsible thing for our dogs. If his insurance claim is accepted, it will go towards the first emergency out-of-hours vet bill, but after that his insurance is maxed out.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If Chilli makes it through this, his care will not end here. The hospital has told us that, depending on his final diagnosis, how he responds to treatment, whether he relapses, and his long-term outlook with this type of disease, he may need treatment for the rest of his life.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Possible ongoing costs may include chemotherapy immunosuppressant treatment every three weeks, taking around 8 hours each time, long-term anti-seizure medication, steroids, other immune-suppressing medication, regular blood tests, monitoring, neurology follow-up appointments, medication reviews, repeat neurological checks, possible repeat MRI scans, emergency relapse care, hospital admissions, and transport to and from specialist appointments.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As a rough guide, the chemotherapy-style treatment alone would cost around <strong>£9,000 ($11,900) to £10,000</strong> <strong>($13,300)</strong> over one year at <strong>£540 ($720)</strong> every three weeks.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Once anti-seizure medication, steroids, blood tests, monitoring, specialist follow-ups, possible repeat scans, emergency relapse care, and transport are added, one year of ongoing specialist care could realistically cost around<strong> £18,000 to £30,000 ($24,000 to $39,000) </strong>or more.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If Chilli has relapses, complications, further hospital admissions, or needs repeat scans and emergency treatment, the cost could be significantly higher. If he needs treatment for several years, or for the rest of his life, the total cost could become far higher again.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>That is why the fundraiser goal may change as we receive more information from the specialist team. We are adjusting it according to Chilli’s treatment needs as they become clearer.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This has also come after an incredibly difficult year for our dogs. Five of our six dogs have needed surgery, including Tonks, who had spinal surgery for IVDD only six months ago. We have six dogs, all around 6 or 7 years old, and insurance becomes more expensive every year as they get older.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our income is also not as predictable as people might think. Social media income is irregular and mainly comes from brand deals, which we do not do constantly. Helena has also had the amount of work available to her drastically reduced because of wider cuts across her profession, which has had a real impact at the worst possible time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are not saying anyone has to pay for Chilli. We would never want anyone to feel pressured. We are simply asking that if Chilli has made you, your friends, or your family smile over the years, and if you are able and willing to help, donating or sharing gives him a better chance.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Every donation will go towards Chilli’s emergency care, existing vet bills, specialist hospital treatment, medication, monitoring, transport, follow-up appointments, relapse care, and any ongoing treatment he may need if we are lucky enough to get him home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you so much for loving Chilli, sharing him, donating, messaging, and keeping him in your thoughts.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We love that little man so much. He is our family, and we know so many of you love him too.
</div>

<div>The best boy Otter the Pitbull + baked potato has been diagnosed with a rare adrenal tumor that’s growing into his blood vessels. He suffered a cardiac event and collapsed on January 7th and was rushed to his vet and then emergency transferred to Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital outside Philadelphia where he is currently in the ICU.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>He had a near fatal heart rate of 300 upon arriving at the vet but that has been lowered and stabilized with medication at the Metro. Further testing shows he has a leaky heart valve that is also contributing to his high heart rate and murmur. Surprisingly, and in a spot of good news, his kidney values are only slightly elevated, which is positive news for a dog that has been in early stage renal failure for the past year (Go Otter!).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We have 2 options; surgery (which the vet advised is risky with his age and the blood vessel placement growth combined) OR we can manage and monitor it. Otter's humans have elected to manage and monitor him.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Otter can begin medication for his heart arrhythmia and high blood pressure. Metro is going to do some other non invasive tests and they’re starting him on the meds today, January 8th. He will stay overnight again to see how he does on the medication and hopefully he can come home tomorrow.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As you can imagine this is a HUGE financial burden and already the estimate is $4000-$6000 for the 2 nights ultrasounds, xrays, bloodwork, etc. Please help if you can to keep this old man potato around a little longer. Choosing this emergency care and future medical course for Otter was a no brainer - he was up and walking around at the vet despite having just suffered a cardiac event, wagging his tail when the staff came through and eating treats. He has a lot of fight in him for a dramatic 15 year old potato and we hope he hangs around with us for a lot longer ♡

Help Save Otter the Pitbull Baked Potato

<div>Hi, my name is Kasey O’Connell &amp; I’m raising money to help assist in paying for Oakleys medical bill. Oakley was starting to get sick Wednesday but didn’t show signs of pain or discomfort. He ate his food Wednesday night &amp; passed his food through no problem, despite throwing up a few times earlier in the day. We went out to dinner &amp; came home to find that ate part of our area rug for his water bowl. Continued to act his normal self, passed more poop, etc. at this point we decided to go to bed.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thursday morning I woke up to find 6 piles of throw up throughout the house. He became real lethargic Thursday, refusing to eat, drink, really do anything besides go outside &amp; lay down. As the day went on, he continued to throw up profusely. Wouldn’t eat or drink or do anything. We called the vet &amp; they decided it was best to bring him in… so, we took him to the vet Thursday night - they medicated him, did x rays &amp; sent home for monitoring. Woke up Friday morning more lethargic than he was on Thursday, covered in drool, barely walking, just not himself. I had Marc rush him back to the vet. They took more x rays &amp; compared them from the night before. The “bubbles” they found the night before (assumed they were gas bubbles) didn’t move, leading to them thinking it was an obstruction. Rushed him in for emergency surgery… 4 hours later, he came out &amp; was put into recovery. The doctor removed over a foot &amp; a half of his intestine. It was bunched up like a draw string bag is when you tighten the top. Completely bruised/ dead due to no blood movement going through. Over a foot of string was removed from his intestine/ colon. Whatever they couldn’t get out that was already in his color will be passed at some point when he poops. He’s on IV fluids, as well as another IV set up with blood coming through to him since he lost a significant amount. His stomach was starting to bloat on-top of all of this.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The doctor told me he’s lucky he was brought in when he was because if Marc would have been working an AM shift, &amp; came home at 1400 Friday afternoon, Oakley would have been deceased due to his intestines &amp; internal organs being shut down. When she went in to operate, they were already in the process of shutting down. Come Saturday, minimal progress was shown. Come Sunday, he still was not eating or drinking &amp; was becoming lethargic again.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Monday morning, an ultrasound was completed &amp; free floating blood was found surfacing inside his stomach. A second round of emergency surgery was performed, resulting in another foot of his intestine being taken out. A drainage tube was placed inside of his stomach to get the excess infection removed from his stomach. He’s still extremely critical but is putting up a fight.

Support Oakley's Fight for Health and Recovery

<div>I am asking for help today for Tim. He was diagnosed with a serious infection in his spine on Monday, October 30th, 2023. He was rushed via helicopter from Phoenixville hospital to Reading hospital for emergency surgery. The surgery went well to remove the infection. However, the infection affected his ability to breathe properly and he was struggling, this was the biggest concern, so to avoid further complications doctors placed Tim on a ventilator on Wednesday November 1st to help his body heal. The infection also affected his ability to fully move his legs and walk, he is numb from the waist down. We don't know what the outcome will be, if he will be able to breathe on his own or walk, it will be a very slow and long process. Medical bills will be a lot more then we can handle when this is all over. Tim will not be working for a long time, if ever again and normal monthly bills, money for food, etc...will be hard to manage as well. Any donation you can give would be greatly appreciated. Please send prayers for healing as well. Thank you.
