Today, we find ourselves residing in a humble plastic tent in Dair Albalah, clinging to hope amidst the rubble of our former lives.<br /><br /><b>As a father and devoted husband, the weight of my family's future rests heavily upon my shoulders. </b>We are not just survivors; we are fighters, determined to rebuild our lives despite the immense challenges that confront us daily. Yet, the reality is stark: I cannot afford to provide for my beloved family, comprised of two intelligent daughters and two promising young sons.<br /><br /><b>The devastation of war extends far beyond physical destruction. It has robbed us of our sense of security, stripped away the opportunity for our children to receive an education</b>, and shattered the dreams we once held dear. <div>I, Maher, am 28 years old. For the past nine years, my simplest dream was to finish building my small house, complete my marriage plans, and start a family. After years of hard work, I finally completed my modest apartment. Unfortunately, my city has faced several wars, with the latest conflict causing unimaginable destruction.

<div>During this war, I sustained a severe injury that led to the amputation of my right leg. Despite this, I survived by God's will. My home, which I had worked so hard to build, was completely destroyed, making it uninhabitable. Tragically, I<strong> also lost my father, my brother's wife, and my brother's seven children</strong>. Our home, once a symbol of hope and a new beginning, became a place of unimaginable loss and sorrow.

<div>I, Samah, grew up as an orphan in Gaza, under the care of my hardworking mother who sacrificed everything to ensure a brighter future for me. Thanks to her efforts, I became an engineer, graduating from the Islamic University in 2019. I underwent extensive training, honing my skills in freelancing, Android development, and social media. Despite the upheaval caused by war, I remained committed to my professional development and endeavored to support my family while establishing my own business, Creative Touch.

<div>In November, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) bombed my brothers' home in Gaza City. Since then, my brothers along with their wives and a total of thirteen children, have been forced to relocate numerous times.

<div>Up until last weekend, all of my family was sheltering in an overcrowded, unsanitary UNRWA shelter, which has since been bombed. At present, all of the family has split up across Rafah, a decision they made in order to limit the number of casualties. Their backs are against the wall, they are facing death every moment of the day and they have nowhere left to go.

<div>One of my brothers is a cancer patient and has not had his treatments since the start of the war. My nieces and nephews, who have seen the dead bodies of many of their young cousins, frequently tell their parents they do not want to die. The family has little access to food and clean water. It is winter in Gaza and the fact that they are all without warm blankets and proper clothing haunts my thoughts.

<div>The Arab American Civil Rights League (ACRL) is helping me pro bono with immigration filings to help my family escape imminent death and join me in the United States. Since the start of the war, I have been supporting all 21 members of my family in Gaza and the costs have been quickly adding up.

<div>Because Ibrahim has Downs Syndrome he is especially vulnerable during Israeli bombardments because the noise panics him so much that he can’t breathe, speak or communicate.
</div>

<div>During heavy bombing near our house in al-Zahraa district Ibrahim’s heart stopped three times and my parents had to perform artificial resuscitation on him to save his life.
</div>

<div>The bombing is also having a huge psychological impact on him as he can’t stop crying or control himself. Ibrahim can't live with these harsh conditions because of his condition and illness. He and the rest of the family have been displaced several times, from al-Zahraa to the ground of al-Aqsa university in Khan Younis and now to Rafah, and he has suffered psychological traumas during the displacement. We are extremely worried about what could happen if Israel now attacks Rafah.
