<div>Hi my name is Joe Wairau and I am the nephew of the late Micklo Corpus, Micklo lost his battle with cancer suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday morning leaving behind his family who are in great mourning and shock at his passing, Micklo was a proud yawuru man who lived to protect his family and country, he stood strong to fight for his land and the Kimberley in his efforts against fracking in the Kimberley, he was a courageous, kind, generous, honourable man who did all he could to help his community of Broome, he touched the hearts and souls of everyone he met and anyone who knew him respected and admired him. Micklo left us to soon leaving behind his wife Jean, his children, grandchildren and family members who are left greaving the lost of him so badly at this time. I would like to start this gofundme to raise the money needed to give Micklo the send off he deserves and to try and take any financial pressures off his family in this terribly hard time, any donations big all small would be greatly appreciated and would go above and beyond to help this family and pay tribute to Micklo for all he has done for anyone who knew him and the community of Broome, all proceeds will go directly to the family to pay for Micklos funeral ❤️

Micklo Corpus Funeral costs

Dear Family, Friends and kind hearted people,

 

Early this year back in January 2021, Godfrey had suffered a stroke in his own home here in Broome. 

 

This was caused by a breakage of a clot in the heart which travelled to the brain. Godfrey had lost all feeling down the left side of his body.

 

He was immediately flown down to Perth via the RFDS and straight to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. 

The amazing team there were able to stop a secondary stroke but Godfrey needed to have open heart surgery immediately. 

The surgery was a success and he was been monitored there over the next couple of months.

He was diagnosed with Lupus, (autoimmune disease) an inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues.

Lupus (SLE) can affect the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.

 

From there, Godfrey was transferred to Fiona Stanley Hospital where his rehab began for the next 3 months.

 

As anyone could imagine, been so far away from home, friends and family for so long, this had a major impact on Godfrey’s mental health but he persevered through all that was thrown at him and finally got the all clear to come back home to Broome in June to continue his rehabilitation at Broome Hospital.

He is currently continuing rehab in his own home with help from carers and some family and friends.

 

He was welcomed back home by family and friends but was unfortunately also welcomed back by massive financial stress. 

As they say….the tide waits for nobody…and unfortunately, neither do bills. 

 

From seeing Godfrey down in Perth to seeing him now in Broome, it is amazing to see the progress he has made. We are all great full for everyone’s efforts involved from the start ,up until now and any further involvement. 

 

From Godfrey …. 

“If you know me personally, I’m the last person to ask for help and have always believed in ‘Paying my own way’. Times have changed drastically and I’m asking for a little assistance help me get back on my feet while I’m on rehabilitation”.

 

Godfrey has asked me personally to help him with this fundraiser and also to assure you that the money that’s kindly raised will go towards everything needed to help support him through these tough times.

About me
