<div>Hi, my name is Daniel Mooney, and I’m a 37-year-old husband and father of two beautiful boys, Cian (3) and Darragh (1). My wonderful wife, Emma, and I had just embarked on what we thought was going to be the beginning of a peaceful, joyful new chapter in our lives. Having just moved into our forever home in the countryside of Kildare.

<div><strong>But life had other plans:</strong>
</div>
<div>In May 2024, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumours (DSRCT). It’s so rare that only about 30 cases are reported worldwide each year. By the time the tumour was found, the cancer was stage 4 and it had spread aggressively in my abdomen and pelvis. My survival chances were slim without immediate and specialised treatment.

<div>Despite the devastating diagnosis, my focus has never wavered: <em>I need to fight for my family, especially my boys</em>. I want to be there to watch them grow, to guide them, and to create memories that will last a lifetime. The thought of them not remembering me is unbearable. <em>I want to live for them!</em>
</div>

</div>
<div><strong>My Journey So Far:</strong>
</div>
<div>Since the diagnosis, I’ve endured nine gruelling rounds of chemotherapy, and the results have been nothing short of miraculous. The largest tumour has shrunk from 25 cm to 8.4 cm, and the cancer has stayed contained within my abdomen. But the treatment has come at a cost—my body is exhausted. I’ve battled severe bone marrow suppression and survived two life-threatening bouts of sepsis.

</div>
<div>On February the 17th I will be undergoing major surgery to remove the known cancer sites, but unfortunately, this will not be a curative procedure—its goal is only to give me more time. Beyond this, I need further specialised and aggressive treatment, which could offer me a better chance of keeping the disease at bay.
</div>

</div>
<div><strong>There Is Hope</strong>
</div>
<div>The Cleveland Clinic in the USA is a world leader in treating DSRCT. Doctors Pete Anderson, Dan Joyce, and Erin Murphy have treated over 100 cases and are pioneering cutting-edge treatment protocols for this rare disease including an immunotherapy vaccine that could change everything for me.

<div>This team offers me the best chance to survive and return home to my family. But the costs are staggering.

Help Daniel Fight for His Life So He Can Watch His Sons Grow

<div><strong>How Zoe’s story began..</strong>
</div>

<div>In July 2023 Zoe was a happy 10 month old baby who just wanted to smile, wave and play with anyone she met. But that all changed very drastically when Zoe became unwell and was deteriorating at an alarming rate. After 24 hours of tests filled with agonising dread in Temple St. Hospital, Zoe was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk Neuroblastoma, an extremely aggressive childhood cancer.

<div>Scans showed that a tumour attached to her kidney, and taking up 50% of her abdomen, had spread throughout her tiny body and fully into her bone marrow. The severity of her prognosis meant that Zoe had to start an intense 18 month treatment plan immediately. She was transferred to Crumlin hospital that night and began chemotherapy the following day.

<div>It's with the heaviest of hearts that we can even recollect that day and put it into words.
</div>

<div><strong>Zoe’s battle so far..</strong>
</div>

<div>A combination of her widespread disease and the impact of the initial chemo left Zoe lifeless in her hospital cot for weeks. She also spent some very difficult time in ICU in those early days. But as the chemo started to do it's life saving job, we slowly started to see small signs of our Zoe coming back to us again. A little smile here and there, and pointing at things that held her interest again - green lights on the hospital room ceiling!

</div>
<div>Since then, Zoe has battled through intricate abdominal surgery to remove as much of the main tumour as possible; additional high dose chemo and a stem cell transplant requiring 6 weeks of
</div>
<div>isolation in a dedicated transplant unit; 14 sessions of radiotherapy, each one carried out under general anaesthetic; and countless blood transfusions, injections and medical procedures.
</div>

<div>Zoe is currently undergoing the immunotherapy phase of her treatment - 5 cycles over 6 months - with the first 2 cycles requiring a morphine pump to manage her pain.
</div>

<div>Her will to battle through this journey makes us so proud every day.

<div>Thankfully Zoe has responded well to her gruelling but lifesaving treatment so far. Her superhuman strength and determination have brought her a long way since her time in ICU last August. That,

<div>combined with the incredible care and treatment administered by the team at St. John's Ward in Crumlin CHI, who we are forever indebted to.
</div>

<div>Zoe is currently doing her best to stand up and take a few steps, say a few words, and even ‘sing’ along to her favourite movie, Frozen! She is getting used to her hearing aids, which were necessary after the hearing loss caused by chemo, and communicating better every day. Her feeding tube is still in place and still required for her nutrition and daily medication.

<div>She is full of personality and fun, and extremely determined!

<div><strong>What’s next for Zoe..</strong>

<div>Immunotherapy will hopefully be the final stage of Zoe's frontline treatment. We hope and pray with every shred of positivity that we can muster that she will be “No evidence of disease” in her post
</div>
<div>treatment PET scan later this year.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The next stage is to do everything we possibly can to prevent Zoe’s cancer coming back after her treatment ends in Crumlin. Devastatingly, high-risk Neuroblastoma has a very high relapse rate, and limited treatment options if relapse occurs. This makes the longer term survival statistics unthinkable.
</div>

</div>
<div>There are Neuroblastoma maintenance therapies that aim to prevent the disease returning, but only available as clinical trials in the USA. The cost of these trials is hugely expensive and that's why we need your help.
</div>

</div>
<div>We’ve set up this fundraising campaign, along with family and friends, called “Hope for Zoe” to try and raise as much money as possible to access these clinical trials. All funds will go towards the

<div>treatment Zoe needs to beat cancer for good.

<div>My best friend, John Denis, has been challenged with one of life's most cruel obstacles. Right before his 26th birthday and a few days before leaving for his fourth year of professional soccer, Johnny was diagnosed with primary mediastinal large B cell lymphoma, an aggressive cancer of the lymphatic system.

<div>A little bit about Johnny - he is the most resilient and determined man I have ever met. Being best friends for almost a decade now, Johnny has brought so much light and joy to my life personally. He has been a man I can count on at any moment of the day. He is one of those guys in the room that can cheer up anyone on their worst day. The light he brings to such a ruthless world is something that I have always admired. He has been a positive influence to everyone around him. He has never given up on any presented challenge in his life, and I'm certain that he will fight this off.

John Denis Cancer Treatment

<div>As an athlete and human the unimaginable has happened to our beloved Ryan.  He was involved in a life altering incident during a training session on Thursday 11th January.  

</div>

<div>Ryan has suffered a broken back, broken neck and dislocated spine.  During this injury, trauma was also caused to Ryan’s spinal cord. The damage is classified as the most severe that can happen to a spinal cord.  He was rushed to the Royal in Belfast and underwent emergency surgery.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Currently Ryan has no movement in his legs or his left arm.  The road ahead is unknown and will involve at least 5 months of him in hospital, followed by a further period of time with a specialist spinal team. There is no exact end date  to when this treatment will be complete. 

</div>

<div>I’m sure you all know Ryan is a dad to 2 year old Kassia. Ryan has the most infectious positive outlook in life and has been through some of the most horrific circumstances always coming out a better human, man and friend.  

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Understandably he is distressed at present, we have limited access to see him.  He is in ICU and hopefully being moved to spinal ward when conditions improve.  He is still showing his positive outlook, his determination and mindset to overcome yet another challenge that life has presented.  

</div>

<div>It’s times like this we thank God for the team of family and friends we have around Ryan and Kassia.  The outpouring of love and support is a testament to who Ryan is as a human and how many people’s lives he has made better by simply knowing him. 

</div>

<div>Ryan will never be able to do what he loves, and fight or train in MMA again.  A sport he has dedicated his life to from the age of 11. 

</div>

</div>

<div>Ryan will be out of work for the foreseeable future and we are trying to take any additional load or stress of Ryan and his daughter by creating a page to raise some funds to help towards rehabilitation, vital treatment, recovery and supporting his family.
