<font color="#333333">Hi everyone, this past month struggles have hit our family. My sister was recently diagnosed with stage 3 brain cancer. After undergoing two major brain surgeries she can not work, and disability does not cover enough. She is a young mom of two boys and is struggling with coming to terms with her diagnosis. She will be starting chemo and radiation within the next couple of weeks. I am trying to help take the ease of worrying about her home by creating this. <div>Nicole was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2023. After treatment, she celebrated one year of remission in December 2024. Unfortunately, last week, Nicole had a scan done in preparation for surgery, and the scan showed that her cancer had returned. In addition to meeting with the oncologist to learn more about the plan to beat this a second time, Nicole and her husband, Chris, have met with a fertility specialist to discuss options as the treatment this go around may significantly affect their chances of having a baby.

<div>A plan was put into action for Nicole to undergo IVF treatments immediately to prepare her eggs for freezing. The majority of this cost is out-of-pocket. Nicole will then begin chemotherapy in mid-February. After the chemotherapy, Nicole will be hospitalized for three to four weeks to receive a stem cell transplant.

<div>Over the past two years, Nicole has become an integral part of the Admissions &amp; Records and Recruitment departments and a friend to many across the College. Her fantastic personality and hilarious sense of humor brighten the days for so many. Nicole and Chris will have a lot on their plates over the next several months, not the least of which is the financial burden of regular trips to and from St. Louis for treatment, the cost of treatment, and time off from work. Any assistance you can give to help ease the burden on Nicole and Chris would be greatly appreciated.

My daughter has been working her way through college.  She has student loans, the last time she applied the lady helping her messed up and only applied for 1 semester, she needed two. she was working and saving money, and then got scammed. someone through venmo sent her $150.00, it wasn't hers. Because she's an honest person, she sent it back.<br />  Well now they had her info and took all the money she had been saving to pay for her last semester. venmo says you have a prior transaction with them, it's legit, and the scammers shut their account down.  She filed a report with the FBI.  The only reason her account was on, that's the way we send her a little money here and there. <br />  She graduated from K-State University, with her bachelors, and has continued her education towards her masters in social work. Alex currently lives in Minneapolis, has a full time un paid internship (2nd internship) helping children, works part time in a day care, baby sits. Has a 4.0 grade point average.   <br />  Alex is a Leukemia Survivor. Diagnosed at 22 months old with ALL. She has been in remission for 25 years. She wants to give back and help children, hoping to work in a hospital one day.  Due to our loosing our business our credit isn't good enough for us to cosign a loan for her.  <br />and she doesn't have enough time to save the money working part time by January 16th.  <br />  Any donation would be appreciated, if she doesn't have the funds for school she'll loose out on the internship, the job with the nonprofit after the internship is over in June.

Amber's son Devin has been battling cancer for over a year and a half. He still has complications that can be frightening - as most recently an aneurysm in his lungs. Amber lives 8 hours away from her son. Devin needs his mother close when he faces a crisis. This presents an expensive challenge for Amber. <br /><br />She is faced with a long drive, the decision of whether to leave the rest of her family behind, or bring them all along. Then there are the expenses incurred while she (and sometimes other family members) are out of town like hotel stays, possible car rentals, food, and gas. Not to mention the bills at home when Amber and Dan are away from work and income is affected.<br /><br />I am appealing to you to help offset these costs. Devin is a fighter. A near death experience really showed us how much he wants to live. But a boy needs his mom close to heal. Please share what you can and we will make sure to keep Amber with her boy when he needs her.

In an effort to assist in a difficult time for a family that we know and love, we would like to open this page for donations.  The Jenkins Family has gone through a series of terrible events over the last few years, particularly with Caitlin's brain operations and now Adam beginning hospice at home.  I cannot go into much more detail at this time as we do not know where things are going to go at this point.  For those who know Amy and the kids, you know that they would never ask for assistance like this but we thought we would try anyway.  Maybe our way to not feel so helpless...<br /><br />The Sikora Family

You forget that things have to go perfectly for life just to exist – for ten fingers, ten toes, four chambers in the heart, arms and legs that function and two halves of a brain that control everything in the body. <br /><br />But sometimes, there are smaller miracles needed once those babies are born, especially for the ones that aren’t born with perfect health. Sometimes it is a miracle that they can breathe on their own, see, eat, hear and even smile.  <br /><br />Bryson Reed, the son of Amber Dousman and Kyle Reed, is already a miracle baby, but he needs more of these tiny miracles to happen each day. And you can help.  <br /><br />Born at 12:14 a.m. Sept. 10 at Carbondale Memorial Hospital, Bryson was already a bit of an extra miracle and gift from God. Amber had been admitted to the hospital in her 39th week of pregnancy because wasn’t feeling the baby move like she normally did and the doctors soon discovered the baby was in distress. After an emergency C-section, Bryson was born weighing 7 lbs. 13 oz. and measuring 19 inches long. A healthy weight by any definition, but something was wrong. Even at such a perfect weight, Bryson was having trouble breathing on his own and he started having seizures that shook his tiny body. The first hours of his life were very rough, to say the least. <br /><br />After a half day with no improvement, an EEG was performed but Bryson’s need to be on a ventilator made other testing impossible. Kyle, Amber and their team of doctor’s made the decision to send Bryson to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri two hours away from their home and from Amber in an attempt to help Bryson live. Because the situation was so critical, he was transported via helicopter. Kyle drove to be with him, leaving Amber in Carbondale until she could be released. At this point, Bryson was still not breathing on his own and still having seizures. <br /><br />However, once in St. Louis, prayers were being answered. Bryson started improving. He didn’t have any more seizures. He was still on oxygen but able to be taken off ventilation. Amber arrived on Sept. 11 and was able to hold her little boy for just the second time. Bryson was smiling in his sleep, holding onto fingers and even began drinking from a bottle on Sept 13. <br /><br />The morning of Sept. 14, doctors were finally able to perform an MRI and even though Bryson had made incredible strides and was hitting milestones, the news was not what this new family had hoped for. The MRI showed that Bryson’s brain had been deprived of oxygen at some point and there was some significant damage. The doctor’s estimated that he will have 40 - 60% of his brain function. <br /><br />Currently, Amber and Kyle are taking the neurologist’s advice and taking one day at a time. While still hospitalized, Bryson has continued to improve. He has had his oxygen tubes removed and all family members are able to hold him now. If he continues to eat an amount the doctors are happy with and gain weight, he will soon be released to go home. <br /><br />This Go Fund Me page has been set up to help Amber and Kyle pay for some of the medical expenses incurred that have helped to save Bryson’s life and to help with continuing medical care since the future is currently unknown. Any amount you can contribute will help them as they begin their new lives as a family of three and continue to help their new, little miracle grow and thrive throughout life.
