Wanda, our sweet friend and neighbor, is courageously battling lung cancer. https://youtu.be/vFNFCGNaY78 ️ Wanda Willis is not just my neighbor—she’s a friend who is facing unimaginable challenges. Right now, Wanda is courageously battling stage 3 lung cancer. She’s undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments, which are taking a toll on her body and spirit. On top of her health struggles, Wanda’s living conditions are heartbreaking. She has no indoor plumbing, very little insulation, and is currently forced to live inside a tent indoors just to stay warm. Her apartment doesn’t have a working shower or bathtub, insulation, and the poor plumbing makes it unsafe for someone in recovery. The bathroom is forced to double as her kitchen, which is unsanitary (see the photo with the cups and oranges below). The back door goes into an extremely cold garage where there is no insulation and a giant cargo-sized garage door. The cold air just seeps into her living area. There aren't any working fire alarms in our building. She is sleeping on the back seat from an abandoned car. Part of her apartment space is an old factory's big garage, where the cold air just comes in and was never meant for someone to live in. Every day, Wanda faces pain—physically, emotionally, and financially. The costs of her treatments are rising, and she’s struggling to make ends meet. She urgently needs help to afford her medical care, cover travel expenses to her appointments, and, most importantly, find a safe and comfortable place to live. Your support can make a real difference in Wanda’s life. By donating, you’ll help her access the care she needs and give her the chance to heal in a safe, warm environment. No amount is too small—every bit of kindness brings hope and comfort to Wanda during this critical time. Please join me in standing with Wanda. Together, we can help her fight cancer and live with the dignity and safety she deserves. Thank you for your compassion and generosity. Wanda urgently needs help to: ✔️ Afford her radiation and chemotherapy treatments ✔️ Cover her rising medical and travel expenses ✔️ A real bed, and boxspring, and a bedding set not the back seat from an abandoned auto backseat part. ✔️ Improve her living conditions during this critical time She does not know how she’ll make ends meet, much less afford to heal. That’s why we’re asking you to stand with Wanda and help give her the comfort, safety, and dignity she deserves. I missed 12 and 1/2 days of work. While I was out on leave for Mom's death, I was informed by my most wonderful boss and his wife, a manager as well, that they were moved to a different store, and we were assigned a new boss. Due to the staffing shifts and scheduling (not counting bereavement leave under the new boss), my hours were down by 18.75 hours in the first 2 weeks upon returning to work. Part 1 (before service) and Part 2 (after service return trip and moving Mom's things here). The hours are picking back up this week, it looks like from the schedule, so things should get back to normal, whatever that is. I sure hope so; however, in the interim, everything is a struggle. The AC went out again at the apartment, and it was 92 to 98 degrees some days. Thankfully, with the weather cooler, we won't have as many of those days. It wouldn't turn off. Also, it would randomly switch to the maximum heat setting, which made it dangerously 99 degrees at night some nights. I bought some ice trays. I had to go to the hospital for a bad tooth. The antibiotics cost $20. My taxi driver was out for a medical emergency for his family. My Lyft costs have been through the roof, an exorbitant $111.48 so far. Lyft rates have been all over the map lately and unpredictable as to when it's the sane pricing. I'm not sure if it's the economy, but tips are down. It could also be due to internal factors and more staff. Tips were down to only $3 through the end of August. They ticked up this first week of Sept to $5.75, but that is way down from normal. Though after making me wait for 3 days and scheduled repair visits, they finally came on Sunday and fixed the AC, but that still leaves the $222.00 electric bill, the box fan, and along with the missed work and my hospital visit, creates a perfect storm of hardship.
