Our ship, the Smage, was born in 2013 when a crew of brave, foolhardy souls with limitless optimism taught themselves to weld and built a Viking vessel out of blood, bones, and Craigslist steel.

<div>After 13 years (and the devastation of 2023’s Mudpocalypse), our battered, bruised Smage is showing her age. Many things have broken, corroded, or are just plain destroyed. We must attend to her, if she is to sail again.

And let’s be real: the cost of steel, wood, and parts just keeps going up. What used to be a quick run to the hardware store is now a multi-stop, budgeting nightmare. Every year it gets harder to support The Smage on grit, duct tape, and group text chaos alone.

<div><strong>Camp Blazing Death Ship is a motley band of mostly-broke artists, makers, musicians, cooks, and dust-covered chaos agents who value inclusion, participation, and a healthy amount of self-deprecating humor.</strong> We’ve spent our summers welding in backyards, scavenging at scrap yards, irresponsibly spending rent money on lumber and steel, then lying to friends about how “the ship won’t take over their entire garage.” We’ve ripped our clothes, severed our legs with angle grinders, and spent a few too many nights in the ER; all in service of building one of the most beloved Viking-themed mutant vehicles on playa. In 2025, we’ll return once more as a 20 person crew; feeding the masses roasted sparkle pony from our Meat Hall and keeping Black Rock’s fire burning.

</div>
<div>Ideally, I would like to give a warm &amp; fuzzy hug to each of you in person for your support. Most, if not all, of you have either built, worked the counter or have been a customer at the Hug Deli. Please give yourselves credit as you are the ones that create the magic moments at the Hug Deli. Once I am situated, work will commence to rebuild it. Then we will meet again!

<div>Artist Mikey Stubbs, creator of the Hug Deli, Art Gallery, and tiny art car fabricator needs your help. He and his family have lost almost everything in the Eaton Fire.

<div>The Stubbs family has been part of the Altadena community for over 60 years while Mikey has been a core contributor to the Burning Man/Festival/Art community for decades. Their home and virtually all their possessions were lost in the devastating LA fires. The home he was raised in, the van used to bring the art to the community, his original artworks, the Hug Deli itself, and much much more, have all been destroyed.

Help Hug Deli artist Mikey Stubbs recover after the LA fires

<div>*My brother Gordon was in a motorcycle accident the day before Easter. He broke 5 ribs, his clavicle, collapsed a lung, and totaled his primary mode of transportation. After a 3 day hospital stay he’ll be released for a month long recovery at home. We’re calling all our friends, family, and community to help with living expenses and medical bills. Gordon was in a motorcycle accident.

We are beyond shattered at the news of our youngest brothers life being taken by a drunk driver last night. He was studying marketing at Manhattanville college in NY, a dedicated college lacrosse player and a brother, a son, a grandchild, an uncle and a friend to all who knew him. This loss is pure devastation to our family and his friends as we prepare to say our unexpected final goodbyes. We appreciate all of the love, support and outreach. Our brother Rob, taken too soon....

On May 13th our family suffered an immeasurable loss when our beautiful Christine unexpectedly passed away. She leaves behind an irreparable void in the hearts of her family as a daughter, granddaughter, niece, sister, aunt, cousin, fiancée and friend. Christine lived her life with unequaled kindness and love spreading light, happiness and joy with her unforgettable smile. And as we prepare to mourn the loss of her in our lives we pray that we can ask for your help in bringing her home. In Christine's journey to see and experience all the beauty of this world she had recently been traveling, and unfortunately was in Mexico when this tragedy struck. We are now faced with surmounting challenges and costs in bringing her back. If there is any small amount you can contribute to help us, we would greatly appreciate it as we just want to bring her home, to family. Thank you for your help and support in this immensely difficult time.

Light and Love for Christine 

Please help our mom Terri to continue her fight.<br /><br />Terri is a loving Mother of 5 children. She has 7 grandchildren. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. At first we were told that it was stage 2. She had a massive tumor in her left breast. She underwent 6 rounds of chemotherapy before she had her mastectomy. Her lymph nodes had cancer throughout them. She was trying to get reconstruction but her body would not allow for this. She had to have 48 treatments of radiation in hope that the cancer would not spread past the breast. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Test showed the cancer had spread. <br />Terri has had the best positive attitude. She has never given up the fight for her life. She says that she is not ready to leave this earth. She participates in the grandchildren’s daily lives and wants nothing more than to see them grow.<br /><br />In 2011, we found out from a PET scan that the cancer had spread to her bones and she had a big hole in her T12 (spine). She then underwent 24 more rounds of radiation. We were hopeful after this she would be in remission. She had another PET scan which showed a few more spots on her spine, few spots on her ribs and pelvis. At this point, we were at a loss for what to do. We decided that it was best to get a second opinion so we visited USC Keck Medical center. The Doctor down there put her on this medication that was not approved for breast cancer but he said that they have been doing studies and it has been working. We would try ANYTHING! <br /><br />She was on that medicine for 18 months and the tumors were stagnant (not active). It was the closest to remission that she would ever see. <br /><br />October 2013, she had her semi-annual PET scan and the worst news came. It was in her liver (stage 4 at this point) and the spots in her bones were active again. We were then in the mode of what do we do from here? What is the next treatment plan? We went back to USC to talk to the Doctor. He gave us a new plan that we were getting ready to execute. <br /><br />I want to make a side note, Terri has worked this ENTIRE time. She has worked through Chemo, Radiation, surgeries and all of the emotion. <br /><br />Then in December of 2013, Terri was at work and she felt so horrible that she HAD to go to the Emergency room. She drove herself there. This was where we found out that the cancer has caused so much inflammation that it was unbearable. She was having breathing (lung) issues. She was in critical condition and there were a few days that we thought we were going to lose her. She was seeing Christmas carolers that were not there. She was in the hospital for over a week and yet had another surgery. <br /><br />Since then she has been on massive doses of chemo and unable to work due to her condition. She has been on temporary disability which has allowed for her to be able to live but she has been unable to pay any of her medical bills that she has incurred. She has requested to be cleared to work but the doctor will not allow it. <br /><br />Unfortunately the temporary disability will end and she will not have anything. Her doctor has asked her to apply of permanent disability which she has and she will not be able to live with the amount of money they will give her. She will not have medical insurance because she will have to quit her job and that is where she has her insurance through. She is not eligible for Medicare because she is too young. <br /><br />So Terri has stage 4 Metastatic Breast cancer and is unable to work and will have NO medical insurance. Without treatment she will DIE! <br /><br />She has been fighting hard but the expense of her illness is becoming too much. We hope to raise funds to pay all back medical bills and health insurance cost. We am asking for anything you can do to help our Mom! We are desperate. We NEED her in our lives and she is not ready to lose this fight that she has bravely fought for the past 4 years.<br /><br />Please help her continue the fight.
