We're launching an upper valley radio station: for residents, by residents.  Leavenworth Community Radio is a nonprofit local station that connects our unique community through accessible, educational, and entertaining programming.  The Story: Once upon a time, deep in the midst of a pandemic, two friends dreamed of the connection and serenity that a small-town radio station could bring into the homes of their "socially-distanced" community. Everywhere they turned they saw their vibrant, engaged, community longing for connection and eventually they found themselves asking, "why dream, when you can stream?" Soon after, they were joined by more dreamers: musicians, organizers and lovers of radio all came together to found Leavenworth Community Radio. We're starting a online radio station, funded, organized and enjoyed by the greater Leavenworth area, hosting programs created by residents and live performances from local artists.  We are on our way, folks, but LCR needs your support. Radio stations, even internet radio stations, have significant upfront expenses, and the sooner we get those covered the sooner we can start entertaining you! In addition to individual donations, we are also looking for LCR Sponsors! If you would like to tune into LCR at your place of business, we would love to make you a Station Sponsor!  And as important as funding is, we are also looking for volunteer show hosts, technical specialists, equipment donations, and a place for our station to call home. Leavenworth Community Radio

On January 6, Ed was involved in a serious accident at work. Ed is in the ICU and his ability to walk and work ever again is in question. Our main goal is to relieve financial stress from Ed, so he can focus on healing. There will be medical and personal costs accrued during this time and Ed's family will need our help. Whether it's food, mortgage, or assistance for Ed's three children and wife Rachel, our donations will go a very long way. The outpouring of love and concern for Eddie has been so incredibly appreciated by his family. Donations will go directly to Ed for all expenses accrued. Thank you all so much!

Those of you that know me know my Uncle Leon raised me as my father figure in Poland. I did not have my biological father growing up, which is where my Uncle Leon stepped in to raise me.  Growing up in Poland during communist times was challenging enough. We did not have a lot of money, and access to common goods was something not many have had to experience.  I grew up in a one bedroom condo with my mom and my 2 sisters. Luckily, I had my Uncle took me in and showed me what it was like to have a father. Over the last several years Leon has had a long battle with various cancers. Leon was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014.  Medical coverage in Poland as it is today is extremely challenging. Unless you have money, you don't have access to the best care. Through the years of treatment, surgeries, colostomy bags, and sleepless nights, Leon still managed to hold a job and support his family.  In September of 2017 Leon was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer which started attacking his bones and organs. After almost a year of waiting for doctors and specialists who were not able to take care of them, they found a specialist in Warsaw who was able to support his challenging needs. At this point the disease had spread so much he had no choice but to quit his job and travel 2.5 hours each way by train from Bialystock to Warsaw twotimes a week to get Chemo treatment. My family does not own a car so they had to make this commute by train. On December 10th, on the way to  his 6th treatment back to Warsaw for Chemo, he had a seizure right in front of the hospital. He was unconscious for several hours. Since then he has had several seizures and is no longer able to eat on his own or recognize his family. Currently, he is in the hospital in Warsaw, 2.5 hours away from his family. He is expected to pass any day now. His wife, daughter and grandson are travelling as much as they can back and forth with the 5 hour daily commute. To transfer him back to Bialystock next to his family will cost about $2500. In addition to this, his family needs help for future funeral costs. I am travelling back to Poland on 1/9/19 to help my family. I'm not sure at this point if I am going to see him or be there to help grieve the loss of who I consider my father. We are looking to raise money to help bring Leon home to his family so they do not have to make the 5 hour commute during the end of his life. We want him to be able to spend the last days of his life with his family. This is a very difficult Christmas for us and any help would be so greatly appreciated.

A few years ago we found our home in Aurora, IL.  This in an of itself might not be that big of a deal but we had been searching for 19 long years for that place where we belonged, where we were embraced.  Aurora has the feel of a small town community but it is actually the second largest city in Illinois, crazy right?  We found in Aurora a community of creatives, with artists from all walks of life and supporters of the arts that embraced the uniqueness artists can bring. We were in love with this place and for the first time in 19 years we felt like we belonged, truly and sincerely belonged.  <img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/25183800_1510190136.7545_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /> So, we packed up our lives and dove right in to this community, planting roots and working to make it an even better place.  I moved my studio downtown and my husband Jason became a board member for Aurora Downtown, chairing the events committee.  A little over two years ago Jason and I also started Emergent, a fine art gallery, geared toward bringing outstanding art to Aurora for First Fridays as well as providing a venue for artists to have their work presented professionally, some for the first time ever. Our goal from the onset was for Emergent to be run like a non-profit taking no money from the artists and I am happy to say we were able to do so covering all costs out of pocket and presenting what many have said is one of the best galleries in town.  We brought artists to Aurora from all over the country as well as showcasing our gifted local artists. We have both been passionate about Encouraging and Inspiring artists for years.  I have both a BFA and an MFA and have been teaching and mentoring young artists (our own kids included) for as long as I can remember.   All this coupled with our love of Aurora and its emerging art scene, the idea of an Art Center in Aurora Downtown planted itself in our hearts and minds - as a place where creative community can exist, a co-working space for creatives. An Art Center that is to be a place where artists can learn, not only the techniques for creating beautiful and thought provoking work, but a place where they can be mentored on how to be successful business owners (something most art schools neglect to teach, unfortunately). So, after thinking and praying and thinking and obsessing and thinking some more, we gathered together an outstanding board of directors (Amy Song, Gina Salamone, Jason Arthur, Steve Ducharme &amp; Tim Frederick) from within our community who have the same passion for Aurora and the growing arts community as us. Together we incorporated our non-profit Art Center as... <img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/25183800_1510190437.6733_funddescription.png" alt="" width="100%" /> Through some awesome connections Jason has been fortunate to establish in Aurora, we have access to an amazing architectural gem of a building with a very generous offer for lease terms.  At this point, we need to come up with the capital to get a few things set in place for the Art Center and for renovations inside the building itself. The bonus - every dollar we put into renovations will be deducted from our rent; how amazing is that! We want to lock down our lease and get the renovations started before the end of the year so we can have our first Gallery opening in February of 2018, with the 2nd and 3rd phases happening over the following months. Our humble request of you is to thoughtfully consider supporting our mission to grow, equip and support the arts in our amazing city.  Our initial goal, before major renovations begin, is to raise $15,000.  This amount would allow Stolp Island Art Center to: -Finish the legal aspects of the non-profit corporation -Prepare architectural renderings of the building -Get our print materials up and running -Start renovations on the first phase of our build out, (which will be our gallery, Emergent, as well as a finished space for further fundraising events.)
