<div>I'm Charis and for the past year one of my fur babies, Buffy, has been fighting symptoms of her FIV. I rescued her in 2020 on a camping trip where she was going from campsite to campsite looking for food. She followed me everywhere I went, including walking with me to the bathroom, waiting for me outside the bathroom until I came back out, and walking back to the campsite with me. I couldn't leave her, and when she let me hold her in my lap for the three-hour drive back to my apartment, it was clear I was meant to take care of her. When I found out she had FIV, I knew there would be difficult times down the road but I didn't expect that to happen less than three years into her life.

<div>She started exhibiting symptoms that suggested FIV was starting to take over her body in the spring of last year. It started with anemia and severe weight loss. Her doctor and I were able to treat and get rid of the anemia with an iron supplement but since then, more issues have arisen and treatment has become increasingly difficult.
</div>

</div>
<div>Two emergency vet visits in the past few months have led to the conclusion that in addition to FIV, Buffy is facing FIP which has generally been a death sentence for cats despite there being a tricky and difficult treatment. We are looking at months of treatment, vet visits, and bloodwork to monitor her progress on top of the thousands I've already spent on emergency vet visits and regular vet visits to monitor her and have fluid drained from her abdomen. I've been able to manage it so far with a Care Credit card but as I have another cat who also needs routine vet visits, I've gotten to the point where I'm about to need more help than my Care Credit can provide.

<div>I'm an actor and a nanny and have been picking up extra babysitting work but am at the point where I can't work any more than I already am while still having time to actually take care of Buffy, work on my career, and also like, sleep. For those who don't know what the life of a working-class actor looks like, jobs are often few and far between and getting paid for that work is often complicated and takes a long time which is also why a writers' strike is happening and also why the actors' union, SAG, has announced the possibility of a strike authorization if re-negotiating contracts with the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) doesn't go well. There are often weeks where auditions come in every day or every other day and are due in less than 24 hours meaning that actors are up working late into the night, and sometimes into the next morning, after and before a regular work day. You don't get paid for any of that work which is why many actors have service industry or childcare jobs. You have to make money while also having flexible hours to have as much time to spend preparing for, taping, and editing auditions, and maintaining your career in countless other ways, as you do working your day job, but for no pay.

<div>All of this to say, I am trying as hard as I can to take the best care possible of the beings who trust me to do that for them but I've reached the point where I have to acknowledge that I need help and it can't hurt to just ask. Even just sharing this page is great, in case you know anyone who might feel inclined to help out a woman full of cortisol, and a kitty full of abdominal effusion and poop. At the risk of being so lame that no one wants to contribute to this fundraiser at all on principle, I'm happy to accept any amount of help at all that will help Buffy to slay her FIV demons. Buffy's Medical Bills

I’m a mutual aid volunteer in Atlanta, GA. Back in the summer of 2018 I was living in my car in San Francisco, California, and BC let me stay with her for free through the Couchsurfing app. Her grace, hospitality, and quirky sense of humor helped restore my faith in humanity in a dark time of my life, and I hope to return the favor. BC has experienced tremendous hardships in the last couple of years. My goal is to provide a safety net for her so she can focus on getting her life back together and eventually obtain custody of her infant daughter. Since the pandemic started, BC has endured homelessness, job insecurity, domestic violence, discrimination, extreme sickness during pregnancy (HG, or Hyperemesis Gravidarum, when the mother experiences intense illness everytime she eats), and ultimately surrendering her newborn daughter to CPS due to the aforementioned circumstances. BC is a strong, steadfast survivor with a long way to go, and I want to help pave the way for her with financial ease. </span>

Our first goal is to reach at least $1000 by then. She has high-functioning autism; as such she is able to work, but still has a difficult time keeping a job with her unstable circumstances. HFA manifests in social settings; some work environments can be very toxic and triggering for her. She needs security and financial cushion so she can find the right occupation for her skill set . We all know that finding a job is a job in and of itself! Lately she begs for money with a sign in public spaces, but several people explicitly judge her for her appearance. Her ex partner pushed her from behind during a domestics dispute and she chipped her front teeth, so some people assume she’s using meth, and they’re hesitant to donate money to her. </span>

She enjoys supervised visits with her daughter, so she stays in the central coastal region of California. </span>

Previous to that I had been doing pasta dinners for the street kids, and had become pretty good friends with them. </span><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:11pt;white-space:pre-wrap;">When I lost my place, and my job, I decided to join them. Ended up dating one of them and coming down to SLO, so that he could serve out his parole (at one point, he was trying to do right). I got pregnant and had HG. It was really bad. Spent three weeks in the hospital because I couldn't keep anything down. That's when the abuse started. He started drinking a lot. He was really paranoid. Always accused me of trying to screw other dudes, called me a whore, a bitch, said I ‘bought’ friends. Poured gasoline on me and threatened to light me on fire. Threatened to beat me in front of the cops, and not stop until they shot him. I wrote in my journal that I wanted to leave, and that I had a plan. He ended up finding it, and called me a backstabbing bitch. Said I was trying to make him out to be a monster.</span>

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Arial;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;">“I was so sick. I literally couldn't do anything. He called me lazy every single day</span>

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Arial;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;"><font color="#333333">“</font>After I had her, like a month after, we were at a campsite, when the trailer pop upped (that trailer got towed). We </span><span style="font-family:Arial;font-size:11pt;white-space:pre-wrap;">had an argument, and he told me to get out of his sight. I started running, and he shoved me from behind, busting my teeth. I started planning how to leave again, and take [my daughter] with me.</span>


</p>


<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Arial;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;">“Two weeks later, he got drunk, and got into a fight with a friend, and then started arguing with me. I packed a bag of baby stuff, and told him I was leaving, and he grabbed me and shoved me into the floor of the truck. I started screaming, and he let me go, but followed me, as I took the baby across the parking lot. Halfway across, he grabbed her. Rather than fight with him in the middle of a busy truck stop, I let him take her back to the truck, went into the store, and told them to call the cops. I went back out, where he was screaming at a trucker. He knew that he'd seen everything that happened, and that I had probably called the cops, so he let me take her</span>

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Arial;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;">“The next day CPS came and took her. Said it was my ‘failure to protect’ and I should have left earlier. </span>

Three years probation, and a $100 fine. I had to move into a shelter, that treated me horribly because of my autism. I was evicted, and had to go back to living in my car, where he found me, and assaulted me again. For safety's sake, and because a truck is not a home, I SOMEHOW found the perfect trade, and here I am now”</span>

Restore a Battered Mother to Safety and Dignity!

Thank you to everyone that has supported so far. The surgery has been completed and I am recovering. I now need any help I can get to help finish my loan and clear off my depth. Help me start my new life well. <br /><br />Feeling like a spectacle is very intrusive, but I really need to molt as soon as possible. I’ve been struggling with s*icidal thoughts for a long time, which I mask with heavy dissociation. Being dissociative has shielded me from facing the pain but it has poisoned my social/professional/family life. You cannot exist normally when you are this empty, everything crumbles. <br /><br />Trans/Queer people are put at a big financial disadvantage by having to self fund their transitions. Heternormative society treats you horribly when you are visibly queer yet no material support is given to someone trying to re-align with society's perceptions of a gender.<br /><br />Transitioning was the only thing that has bridged my gap with reality. Please help me access this asap. I hope putting this out would help me materialize it sooner, and finally finish off a huge cycle of dissociation and pain in my life. <br /><br />The resilience and strength trans people need to show daily just to exist, u could never imagine.
