<div>I along with other friends have created this GoFundMe on behalf of our dear friend Rob (<strong>a.k.a. ROB DABOOM)</strong>. Rob has had his life turned upside down, after recently being diagnosed with cancerous bone lesions. Unfortunately, this diagnosis is further complicated, as he also battles a rare existing neuromuscular condition called Myasthenia Gravis. Myasthenia Gravis causes muscles under your voluntary control, to feel weak and tire quickly; this often impacts your ability to see, swallow, breathe, walk or engage in normal, everyday activity. For those who do not know, Rob has been dealing with this condition for most of his life, and spent many years in the hospital because of it.

<div>Since his cancer diagnosis, (paired with Myasthenia Gravis), simple functions such as making a phone call, eating, drinking, bathing, and even taking medication, are now extremely complicated tasks that require around the clock care; especially overnight. Most importantly for Rob, he has lost the ability to spread love through music; something he loves most and started from the tender age of fourteen. Rob has been a support system to so many people, and a pillar in the Toronto House Music Community. Not only that but he has gone far beyond the city gaining international recognition, and connections, through his Twitch channel. Now during this challenging time, we hope to support him as he faces the toughest battle of his life.

<div>Rob has begun aggressive chemo and immunotherapy treatments to boost his immune system, as well medication to combat blood clots. Though Rob is staying positive and fighting with all his might, the financial burden of medical related costs, as well as the inability to work is taking its toll on him and his family.

Support Rob During His Battle with Cancer

<div>On December 27, 2018, my wife and I were on a vacation in Costa Rica. While driving up a dirt and rock mountain road, waiting for a line of cars coming down the mountain, the car suddenly lurched forward, and the entire Punta Mala road collapsed, dropping our SUV 100 feet down, bouncing off the mountain repeatedly, and landing in a shallow rock riverbed below. The drop should have been fatal, but we both survived.

<div>We were not so lucky. We were both severely injured – Mitzi, more so. She suffered a broken neck (internal decapitation,) additional spinal breaks, and multiple long-bone and ligament damage. Additionally, she had numerous lacerations heavily bleeding on the top of her head. Miraculously, she crawled out the open passenger window and with the assistance of a young Tico (Costa Rican) crawled through the mud to a rock and sat down. She knew she had broken her neck and was holding it up with a hand, all the time crying out for someone to tell her what had happened to me. She had seen my head crushed beneath the smashed windshield, pouring blood, unconscious. She was sure I was dead. I was crushed inside, obviously seriously injured but alive. Mitzi was immediately taken by ambulance to the hospital in Cortes while I was extricated from the car. I had broken the major bones in my back, including shattering my scapula (shoulder blade,) my right shoulder was destroyed, my rotator cuff torn, my Ulnar Collateral Ligament shredded, and my right arm was broken in six places.

<div>Mitzi went through a very complex twenty-hour surgery to stabilize her neck and back, and literally reattach her head to her spine. After three weeks, she was taken back to her home by ambulance and now, five years later is still bedridden and in need of further surgery. She has been in severe post-surgical pain since January 2019 with no relief at all. Mitzi has been on various strong pain medications for five years, which have now damaged her gastrointestinal system. She has lost over 100 pounds.

<div>Mitizi’s surgery cost well over $400,000, plus the incredibly high costs of five years of medication, completely drained our bank accounts.
</div>

<div>Other than having the huge lacerations on my head sewn up with over 250 sutures, I refused surgery for my severe back and arm damage, because I knew I would have to be Mitzi’s caregiver, as best I could. But the concussion from the accident has progressed and I have now had ten TIAs (Transient Ischemic Attacks,) and due to my lack of balance, I have had had seven further TBIs (Traumatic Brain Injuries) from further concussions. I am at high risk for a stroke. . I have almost no use of my right arm, and my left arm is still full of glass. I need immediate neurological care.

<div>Some of you may know me; I was the resident DJ at NY’s Better Days from 1981 to 1989 and a producer/remixer. When the club closed, I moved to the UK where I continued my production work. I met Mitzi in January 1990, fell in love and married her in May 1991.
</div>
<div>In the mid-90s I stopped working on music and went into network technology full-time, all self-learned. (I had been a closet geek since 1970.) As I got older, I was drawn back into music, and for the past ten years I’ve been combining my tech skills with music, hopefully new doors will open for me when I get well.
</div>

<div>Other than our children, our family is deceased. My wife’s family is also deceased, so we have no support system in place other than our many friends and colleagues from both the music and technology worlds.

<div>There is a long, painful road ahead, and it will require funding for multiple surgeries, and a place to live once released. My neurological problems are significant, and the costs will be equally significant. <div>For those who weren't aware, Sheri recently embarked on a brave life-changing journey to start a new beginning in St. Catharines. Within two weeks of settling into her new home, Sheri lost all of her possessions in a sudden and devastating home explosion. Luckily no one or any pets were seriously injured. However, the resultant fire and smoke caused severe structural damage, and the entire house will need to be rebuilt from the ground up and all her possessions replaced.

She recently completed her schooling and has been in the process of completing an unpaid work placement before she can start a full-time position in her new field.<br />   <br />Sheri is not seeking charity, but rather hoping for some faith in humanity to help give her a small break and head start to rebuild what she lost.

Family Loses Everything in a Home Explosion

Hello my friends, <br /><br />For the last 6 years, my brother, Pietro, has struggled with health issues associated with the progression of his cirrhosis.  Unfortunately, in May of this year, he was diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma and he faces a difficult road ahead with much uncertainty.  Through his specialist at Toronto General Hospital, he was able to receive a compassionate supply of a drug used in radioembolization therapy, a treatment that is given to liver cancer patients to help prolong life.  I am reaching out to my friends and family so that Pietro doesn’t have to suffer in silence with this disease, but can stand on our shoulders as we support him during this challenging time. <br /><br />Pietro is the proud father of two sons, Dillinger (age 16) and Kalan (age 14).  They are the centre of his universe and he still refers to them as his “babies.”  Anyone who has met my brother knows that he could walk into a room full of strangers and be friends with them by the end of the night.  As a DJ for almost 25 years, Pietro has always preached that house music brings people together.  But over the years, through the eyes of a brother, I have learned that it wasn’t just the music that brought people together; it was Pietro himself who united so many different people that have crossed paths with him and been touched by his incredible spirit, unabashed humour, and love for everyone. <br /><br />This fundraiser is to help alleviate the financial hardships that Pietro is currently experiencing while he's at home and no longer able to work.  Disability payments will take time before they start coming in, but the amount isn’t enough to cover his mortgage, car payments, and other living expenses.  The money raised on this page will allow my brother to be present for his children without worry or distractions while he is still healthy enough to make more memories with those he loves.  It will also be used to help Dillinger and Kalan pursue their educational aspirations when they are older. In Loving Memory of Carter

On Saturday February 2nd our dear sister/friend/hairdresser Anna J. experienced an awful accident in her apartment.  A mini fireplace exploded  in her kitchen and she was caught on fire and now is recovering from severe burns at the Sunnybrook Hospital burn unit. <br /><br />Her hands are badly burnt, along with her chest and some of her face, meaning she's going to need some time to recover. As of right now, Doctor's are unsure how long it will take. <br /><br />For those of you who know Anna well, she's a talented and dedicated hairdresser and owns a salon in Bloor West Village.  As a small business owner who is self employed, her entire life is put into her business. Without being able to work for a month or maybe more is going to put a lot of stress on her as she won't have any way to pay the bills.  Rent, taxes, salon supplies and maintenance is thousands of dollars every month. Most people who do not own a small business are not fully aware of how much this cost's every month. The cost to carry the business is more than what Anna can even make profit on and her business partner also cannot make enough to cover these costs alone.  <br /><br />The emotional and physical pain Anna is going through right now is something no one should ever have to experience. As her close family and friends we've created this GoFund to alleviate a bit of this pain so that she can have a little bit of the burden off her shoulders and can feel some comfort while she recovers. <br /><br />We thank you all for your contributions and most of all your thoughts and well wishes. <strong>My friend Isys Alexis has been living with her illness that is rapidly effecting all aspects of her life in a profound and negative way . And for her to continue to have a quality of life that she deserves she is in need of funds to help her live day to day as the medication that she requires has to be administered on a daily basis. <br />Isys would like to share with you her story and diagnosis so that there will be a greater understanding with regards to her illness. She is doing so to also raise awareness for those that are also suffering from the same illness. Please take the time to read below. Thank you all for your support. <br />Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope it better helps you understand what I am going through, first a little background info on autoimmune disease. Your body's immune system protects you from disease and infection. But if you have an autoimmune disease, your immune system attacks healthy cells in your body by mistake. Autoimmune diseases can affect many parts of the body. No one is sure what causes autoimmune diseases. The hardest thing to understand is that its 2018 and we still don’t have all the answers. My health was never perfect; I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease when I was nine. Being a T1D (aka Type on Juvenile Diabetic) meant I always carried the risk of devastating complications in the future. It also meant I had a disease that shared a name with another disease known as Type 2 diabetes, so being faced with comments like “You don’t look diabetic” Or “Diabetes? But you’re so young” Became a part of my life. I can explain. Type 2 Diabetes is a metabolic disorder, not an autoimmune. It can be prevented by eating healthy and exercising and is usually diagnosed to obese patients. So essentially people with T2D tend to be overweight, older and not too focused on their health. T2D can also be managed by eating healthy and exercising and can also go away completely! Some folk who choose not to exercise or eat healthy take Insulin or pills to control their diabetes. Please understand that insulin is NOT covered by OHIP (Gov’t health insurance) and I fear it is for this reason. (It’s not necessarily mandatory for T2D) The issue: T1D do not have this luxury of reversing their illness with diet and exercise and without insulin injections (pills don’t work on us) we must inject needles into our body and balance your sugar levels or we eventually die, slowly may I add. I don’t usually feel very comfortable with this part, and it gets me quite emotional but here I go, complications of T1D include but are not limited to heart stroke, ulcers, blindness, and amputations of toes, fingers, feet, legs etc..... On top of that some people with one autoimmune illness tend to be more prone to others. I am one of those people. Through my life I have suffered 4 Iritis outbreaks (Inflammation of the eye-muscle for no reason) it feels like someone is putting a hot knife in your eye. I also had my skin break out in a crocodile-skin looking rash for about two months. It was between my thighs, on my arms, stomach, and lower back and on my buttocks. I didn’t share this with many people because I didn’t want them thinking I was dirty or had bacteria; mind you this is completely unrelated to personal hygiene and is just another autoimmune. I also have seasonal allergies and other things but honestly I can’t complain about that. I knew this but much like the most of us I never really thought I’d reach the point in my life were the complications would dramatically change my quality of life....I tried my best to keep my T1D under control but sometimes we just get unlucky and it hits us harder than others. Where I am at now: Since April of this year I began feeling nauseous, it start off as me brushing it off as car related motion sickness, but it quickly became apparent to my husband and I that it was something more serious, and permanent. The nausea never seemed to go away, perhaps for only a few brief moments but it always returned. I had no other related symptoms to digestive issues. So this was all a bit strange. It didn’t show signs of stopping and was progressively getting worse and harder to handle. Eating regularly is important for T1 diabetics because if our blood sugar levels drop too low we need sugar to get it back to safe range or we can suffer seizures, coma and death. Now I had difficulty keeping juice in my system, you can imagine how scary it’s been for my husband and I. Multiple doctor visits told us that I was suffering from “Gastro paresis”, perhaps due to my diabetes....but Gastro paresis, is a general term meaning digestive paralysis. Each case is unique so this is what I am dealing with: My body has nerve damage in my small intestine so food isn’t getting pushed through fast enough so that equals me suffering with: Acute to severe nausea all day every single day. Like a hangover that wont leave. Ever. Last month I ended up in the hospital because I couldn’t keep any liquids down for 4 days. They kept me there just short of a week rehydrating me and running rests on my heart, which is under distress due to its constant physical suffering. Like that feeling you get right when you are about to vomit, your heart races and you start to contract. Some days that happens every few minutes for hours. But there has to be a cure right? No, but drugs can be taken to help move food along, the issue is the drug has these side effects when taken long term and I was told to stop immediately since I am at “high risk” for the following symptoms: twitching movements of face and tongue/ random chewing movements mask-like face uncontrolled movements of the hands and fingers twisting movements of the body shuffling walk loss of bladder control muscle spasms of the face, neck, and back ...also nausea? it goes on. So what can I do to help this? Since I can’t take the medication and there is no cure? What does my future hold for me or my quality of life? I had an idea, the use of IV dips have become more popular in today’s age. I can use this to my advantage; the IV can provide a direct source of hydration for the days/weeks/months I cannot keep water in my system. The vitamins in the IV drip can help me replenish the electrolytes I lose from vomiting and any other essential nutrients I am not getting. The reality of this is upsetting for me to talk about but I need help. I don’t want to have a feeding tube installed and I don’t want to live with the side effects of my medication. For those who know, I am an actress and musician and having a feeding tube would limit my ability to perform, with muscle spasms it will make my future as an actress obsolete. Donations would go towards my IV treatments which are not covered by any health plan. This means I could sustain myself without the need of a feeding tube and could continue my dreams as a model, actress and musician. I also would one day like to be a voice of those suffering from similar invisible/autoimmune illnesses.<br /></strong>
