On March 18, 2026, at 1:45am, I was awakened in the middle of the night with heavy chest pains so severe that I had to call 911 for the first time in my life. I was taken to the ER for an emergency heart procedure, and doctors placed two stents in what they call the 'widow maker.' It was terrifying to go through this alone, and I was very frightened. Now, I’m home recovering, but my journey isn’t over yet. Because I’m diabetic, my recovery is slower than expected, and my cardiologist has told me I need the same heart procedure done on the other side, which is being scheduled in the next few weeks. I’m terribly frightened all over again.

 Currently, I am unable to work, so I’m humbly trying to raise funds to help with mounting medical bills, surgery costs, and the sudden financial hardship I’m facing. Donations will help alleviate the burden of everyday expenses and uncovered medical costs, as well as relieve the tremendous anxiety and worry so I can focus on my recovery. I am keeping a positive attitude and look forward to getting better and back to work as soon as my doctor allows.

Help Support Mary Kaye’s Heart Attack Recovery

Our family’s world shifted overnight. My husband, Jim, was recently diagnosed with a Grade 4 glioma after undergoing brain surgery. What started as unexpected symptoms turned into a craniotomy, long hospital days, and now a treatment plan that includes six weeks of daily radiation and oral chemotherapy. We are still waiting on final biopsy results to determine the exact tumor type, but we do know this: the road ahead will be hard, and it will require strength, faith, and time.

 If you know Jim, you know this man does not sit still. Even after brain surgery, he’s been walking, talking, joking, and refusing to let this diagnosis define him. His spirit is unshaken. He is strong, stubborn in the best way, and deeply devoted to his family. More than anything, he is a father. Some of our children live out of state, and one of our greatest wishes right now is simple: time together. We want to bring all of our kids home as often as possible — to sit at the table together, to laugh in the same room, to make memories that will carry us through whatever lies ahead.

 We are creating this fundraiser to help cover flights to and from for our children, bucket list experiences as a family, travel and memory-making opportunities, and the added expenses that come with ongoing treatment. This isn’t just about financial support. It’s about giving us the chance to choose joy in the middle of something unimaginably hard. We don’t know exactly what the future holds, but we do know we want to fill it with love, presence, and meaningful moments. We are choosing to walk this road day by day — soaking up every hug, every laugh, every sunset we get together. If you feel led to give, share, or simply pray for us, we are beyond grateful. <div>My mom was the best mom. I know that’s a very common thing to say about all moms, but my mom was just… a freakin' warrior, a true definition of a super mom. She was such a hardworking woman; she faced trials and tribulations that not many would’ve survived.

<div>A single immigrant mom raising two kids by herself with the resources she had was truly admirable. I wish I would’ve told her how much I learned from watching her be so damn resilient and brave.

<div>Her laugh was infectious, her personality was fun and warm. She is truly the reason why I’ve grown to become a badass mom to my own daughter. I learned from the absolute best… I miss her so much already.

<div>My mother was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease in 2021 while she was residing in Mexicali, Mexico. Huntington’s disease is a progressive brain disorder that affects your body’s motor skills. As time goes on, your brain loses function and the ability to know how to work on its own. You eventually lose the ability to eat for yourself, bathe, swallow, talk, etc.

<div>For the entirety of her illness, I wasn’t able to bring my mom back to the States because she was barred for 10 years for coming to the US illegally before my brother and I were born. (And for anyone that has something negative to say about that, please dont. She did what she needed to do to give herself a better life, and us. I admire her for that.) So for almost a year and a half, I had been traveling every other month to go see my mom, care for her, and show up for her.

<div>Once I had my daughter in Sept 2022, I took my baby to go meet her abuelita in Dec 2022 for the first time! At this point, my mom couldn’t even hold my baby by herself; her illness had progressed kind of fast. However, my mom was so excited to meet her baby.

<div>I wish we would’ve known that that was going to be the last time I’d see my mom in person, and the last time my daughter would see her grandma.

<div>As the years went on, I was only able to help my mom financially and be there for her through FaceTime calls and phone calls, as I had certain roadblocks that were keeping me from being able to go see her again.

<div>Unfortunately, my mom passed on Feb 18, 2025, due to her disease, and 4 months after her 10-year bar had been lifted. She was SO so excited that her bar had been lifted and continuously asked me when she would be able to come back to the States with my brother and me, and now her new grandbaby.

<div>Mami, this is not the way I envisioned bringing you back home, but… you’re finally coming home, mami. You’re finally going to be with your kids and granddaughter after 10 years. I love you so, so much, mama, and I am so sorry.

Anthony was our brother, son, friend, and more than all that Anthony was what embodies compassion. His sudden passing was unfortunate and our family is at a loss. His family and best friends are devastated losing him. His heart was as good as gold, he always went out of his way to help, and had a passion for small talk. We’ll always remember his silly, loving, funny remarks. <br /><br />If if you knew him, you know these words aren’t enough to describe his memory.
