<p>My mom has been selling tamales by Lowe’s on Paxton for over 10 years, working hard to live the American dream and support our family. But on June 19th, ICE showed up without a warrant, forcibly trying to deport her even though she was fully cooperating. In the chaos, they threw her to the ground with such force that she lost consciousness. A nurse who tried to check on her was pushed away. 
</p>
<p>Thanks to the kindness of bystanders who called an ambulance, she got the urgent medical attention she needed. She is now in the hospital, preparing for heart surgery to check for blockages caused by the trauma and stress from this terrifying experience. 
</p>
<p>This has been a heartbreaking and painful ordeal, but she asks only for your prayers and encouragement. Her message is clear: Even when you’re working hard, playing by the rules, and trying to build a better life, the fight to live safely and freely in this country never ends. 
</p>
<p>Please keep her in your thoughts, stay safe, and share her story so others know the harsh reality many face in pursuit of the American dream.

Stand with Mom: Healing After ICE Ordeal

<div>Friends and family, our uncle Vivaldo was picked up by ICE Tuesday morning while working in Pico Rivera. He was simply making his rounds as a janitor when ice invaded the parking lot and forcefully detained him. They currently holding him at Central Temple in LA, that we know of as of today.

<div>He is a loving father of six, a devoted husband, and proud grandfather. His youngest daughter is just 1 year old. He is the sole provider for his family and has lived in the United States for 30 years with no criminal record.
</div>
<div>We have spoken to an immigration lawyer who is trying to help us with our case. Additionally the detention center said they’d be willing to release him for a $18,000 bail. If anyone is willing and able to donate anything, we would greatly appreciate it. All funds will help our family pay the immigration lawyer and immigration bail.

<div>Gabby and Luana just graduated from High School this past week. They are proven community leaders. First-generation high school graduates and college-bound students. This week should be filled with celebrations, festivities, and family moments, but on June 19, Gabby and LuLu’s mother, Ana Franco Galdamez, was taken captive by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) while she fulfilled her daily employment duties at Home Depot (Hollywood Location). The children are in shock, terror, and heartbroken.

<div>The story of Gabby and Luana’s mother, Ana, is not uncommon. The family is from El Salvador. They escaped imminent danger and violence in their country and came here to the United States. Gabby and LuLu’s older brother, Edwin Rafael, was recently murdered in El Salvador. Still grappling with grief and loss, their mother Ana is now in federal detention facing deportation.

<div>On January 7 at around 5 AM, I had to evacuate my home in Altadena with my son, my daughter, and my four grandchildren as the fire spread. We left with only what we could carry, hoping we’d have a home to return to.

<div>The very next day, while still processing the shock of losing everything, my father suffered a heart attack and passed away on the way to the hospital. I didn’t even have time to catch my breath before tragedy struck again. Losing him so suddenly, in the middle of all this devastation, has left me heartbroken in ways I can’t even describe.

<div>My daughter made the difficult decision to take her kids out of state, which I completely understand. That left my son and me to deal with the aftermath alone—sorting through the fire damage, the loss of our home, and the grief of losing my father.

<div>I’ve called Altadena home for over 60 years, and now, I have nowhere to go. I’ve been staying at a shelter at the Pasadena Convention Center for the past few weeks, and I’ll be moving to another shelter in Altadena soon. But without any other options for safe temporary housing, I don’t know how long this will last.

<div>My home isn’t safe to return to—not until all the toxic debris is cleared and the roof and attic are rebuilt. Until then, I’m left with nothing but uncertainty.

<div><strong>David has spent years pouring his heart into his work, serving up delicious meals from his food cart catering business since 2017.</strong> He built his life near Eaton Canyon, working tirelessly to bring people together through food and music. But in a matter of moments, the Eaton Fire took everything.

<div>Forced to evacuate, David not only lost his home of eight years—his landlord had to move back in, leaving him displaced—but he also suffered serious injuries while fleeing the smoke. He fell and injured his knee, shoulder, neck, and back, leaving him dependent on a cane and wheelchair as he struggles to recover.

<div>As if losing his home and health weren’t enough, looters took what little remained. His catering equipment—his cart, pots and pans, chef knives, and utensils—was stolen. Everything he needed to make a living is gone. And beyond his livelihood, David also lost something deeply personal: his garden, guitar, saxophone, violin, and his beloved skateboard—his sources of joy and creative expression.

Help David Rebuild After Losing Everything in the Eaton Fire

<div>Hi, I’m Jackie Gonzalez, a Pasadena Unified school teacher, Altadena resident and native, mother, and fur baby advocate.

<div>On Jan. 8, 2025, my hometown of Altadena went up in flames with very little time to secure our families and pets. My father, who passed away late 2021, left his cat Petunia in the care of his wife, Norma, and sister, Serafina on Lincoln Ave, his home of over 50 years. The blaze tore through his home and flattened it to burnt rubble.

<div>His cat, Petunia, was lost for 30 days. We feared she had perished in the flames. However, with her 13 years of experience in Altadena as an indoor-outdoor cat, she somehow managed to dodge coyotes, feral cats, 100+ mph winds, and a wildfire. She is a trooper and my little “She-Ra!”

<div>Shortly after finding out my dad &amp; stepmom’s cat went missing, I posted on FB asking the Altadena community for leads to help find her. Almost immediately, a generous woman by the name of Alejandra, and an organization called Tail Town Cats, headed by Jaime, reached out through my Facebook post and decided to scout, feed, and lure Petunia into a cat trap. They were successful on day 28 of the fire aftermath.

<div>Petunia has been reunited with her family, and it took 2 weeks of diligence and perseverance! However, not without risk! It was an amazing feeling to have this miracle thanks to a few selfless women.

<div>[While scouting for Petunia, these volunteers placed a camera recording her likely feeding location; placed a temporary kennel for her to sleep comfortably; and served food for the wildlife in this area. A million thanks to Tail Town Cats &amp; their advocates/volunteers for this altruistic feat. They are my angels]

<div>My stepmom, Norma, is not able to care for Petunia. So, I have decided to take in my daddy’s fur baby, errrr fur-sister. I have 4 animals of my own, and now that I have also been displaced, it’s going to be a challenge and added expense to house Petunia as I will keep her as an indoor-only cat! <strong>Any little bit will help me get started with providing a new life for my fur-sister.</strong>
