<div>My heart breaks as I write this. My dear friend Vanessa and her family lost everything in the devastating Palisades fire. Her family home, passed down for generations, is gone. The place where she raised her two autistic boys and cared for their animals has been reduced to ashes.

I met Vanessa when I first moved to Topanga Canyon and lived in her airstream temporarily while recovering from a car crash. Vanessa welcomed me with open arms and showed me what true kindness and community look like.

<div>Vanessa’s life has always been built around her children’s needs. Her boys have complex special needs that require her full-time care and attention. Their home wasn’t just a house — it was a sanctuary, carefully designed to provide stability, comfort, and safety for her children. Now, all of that is gone.

<div>To make matters worse, her fire insurance was canceled just months before the fire, leaving them with no financial safety net. They’re now left with no income to support the boys’ unique needs or their everyday living expenses.

The cancer spread very quickly to her entire brain and she passed surrounded by love peacefully at home. Nine months ago Melissa, a 38 year old healthy fun loving mother of 2, was unexpectedly diagnosed with a uterine sarcoma. This last Thursday, irrespective of her determination and her will to live, the cancer tragically took Melissa's life. Her husband Ian had to leave his typical day job to fight this cancer and to raise their children. Melissa and Ian have two daughters ages 7 and 3, Mia and Ava, who have fought alongside. <strong>MEADOW POLLACK MEMORIAL FUND</strong><br /><br />It is with profound sadness and intense grief that we are letting everyone know that our friend and family member Meadow Pollack did not survive the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL on February 14.<br /><br />While the family grieves this unimaginable loss, we are setting up this GoFundMe page with their knowledge and blessing, to provide a place for everyone to get additional information, post their condolences, and hopefully donate to the memorial fund we have set up in Meadow’s name.  <br /><br />All funds will go towards the costs associated with Meadow’s funeral arrangements, but more importantly we hope to have enough money to help Meadow’s mom <a href="https://www.facebook.com/shara.kaplan.5">Shara</a> , a single mom, get the help and long-term counseling she will need.  Shara is a real estate agent in the Parkland area who works on commission only and has no other source of income besides that which she goes out and earns.  As you can imagine, there can be no timetable for her to return to work or any other sense of a “normal” life after this and she will have no income, other than the help provided by family and friends at this time.  My sister is Shara's closest friend and is with her at this time. (I need to disclose this because GoFundMe is vetting all funds related to Parkland.)<br /><br />For those who may not have known Meadow personally, she was 17 years old and a senior at Stoneman Douglas High School, looking forward to her senior prom, then graduating in June and going on to Lynn University in the Fall.  She was a beautiful, warm, loving and intelligent soul whose sense of humor and loyalty to friends made her beloved by all who knew her.  We hope that her death, along with the other classmates who were killed, injured or otherwise traumatized by this horrific incident will not be in vain.  <br /><br />Our hope is that all who have lived through this event will take this feeling of grief, anger, shock and frustration with them and help fight to change our society so no other families will ever have to endure what these families are going through.  We will always remember Meadow and may she and the other victims rest in peace. Meadow Pollack Memorial Fund

A dear friend of mine, Cynthia, just lost the love of her life in a tragic car accident. She was so happy with Johan, who was an incredible boyfriend to her. They never ate dinner without each other. They never went to bed without each other. She always had a smile on her face when she spoke of him. They were madly in love and he was taken from her so tragically and unexpectedly. Cynthia, a dedicated mother to her 11 year old son Nicky, recently found out that she is expecting a baby with Johan. As you can imagine, she is devastated that Johan is not going to meet their child. Once again, she will be a single mother to not only 1, but 2 children. Cynthia also has no family nearby, as they all reside in Peru, where she was born and raised. She is going to need all the help she can get with a new baby on the way. <strong>Daddy &amp; Daughter</strong><br /><br />This is my Uncle DJ and my cousin Jaidlyn, his daughter.  No one knew two months ago that their lives were about to change forever.  <br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/3734954_1426532396.6409_funddescription.jpg" alt="" title="" width="100%" /><br />Jaidlyn is DJ's only child and as you can imagine, she means everything to him.   She is the sweetest 14-year-old you will ever meet, and he has the heart of twelve men combined.  <br /><br />Unfortunately, just over a month ago, Jaid was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a devastating diagnosis to her entire family and especially DJ.   Days and nights in the hospital became commonplace for him and her mom, Lea.  He was crushed but optimistic; we all were/are, including Jaid.   Unfortunately, though, the time he spent with his daughter took him away from his career, understandably.  <br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/3734954_1426533249.4001_funddescription.jpg" alt="" title="" width="100%" /><br />DJ is a real estate appraiser and, by nature of the business, an independent contractor.  He doesn't have a salary, vacation days, PTO, 401k, or company provided health insurance.
