I was also a co-creator of Blackout Healing which brought grief rituals, ancestral connection, meditation, and joy practices to Black community in Seattle during the summer and fall of 2020. The Blackout was a response to what we felt was missing and needed from our community. There were plenty of protests and places to put our rage, but nowhere to put our grief, to resource ourselves for the struggles to come or to intentionally cultivate joy.

<div>As we step into the first 100 days of an administration that is committed to dismantling DEI, immigrant right, women's reproductive freedoms, ethnic studies, trans people's rights to bodily autonomy, and so much more I am feeling exhausted. It is demoralizing, discouraging and infuriating to live in a country where our right to exist is daily under attack. It is overwhelming to even know where to begin, but as I always tell the youth I serve...we start where we are and do what we can. So I am starting with black women, non-binary and trans folks.

<div>My goal is to co-create an ecosystem of healing and a space of intervention for 12  black women, trans or non-binary people who have given so much to their communities.  This experience is a 7 month commitment including 6 sister circles and a 7 day retreat at the Whidbey Institute and I want to offer it to participants without them having to pay $1. Support Black Womxn to Rest and Repair

<p>Here's the deal with life: one minute you’re celebrating being vaccinated and grabbing a Memorial Day weekend break in the sun and the next, you’ve had a devastating accident and in the ICU recovering from a massive brain hemorrhage and a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
</p>

<p>This is what happened to Amy, experiencing one of those awful moments we all dread that turn everything on its head and suddenly, life is hanging in the balance. The good news – and we must focus on that – is the doctor’s prediction of a full recovery at the end of six months to a year of full-time rehab. The bad news is the expense, the medical bills, child care, the lost wages, and the costs and resources necessary to provide Amy the care she needed in Miami and the 24/7 care she currently needs at home. It has given new perspective and increased worry about three little boys at home, who are trying to figure out what happened to mommy: the curious, creative 9-year-old and the mischievous, adorable 5-year-old twins who keep Amy young all of whom give her life meaning. Two weeks in the hospital in Miami and now, readmission in Columbus after the flight home to Columbus because the CT scans raised a red flag are keeping her from them and deepening the pain of this all.
</p>

<p>It’s a long road ahead but Amy is determined. She’s a fighter, and for those who know her it will resonate that this pint-size gal with a giant heart feels an enormous amount of responsibility to return the love that she is so used to giving. So, we who care about her, have set up this fund to relieve some of that pressure that will get in the way of healing, and get her back to the kids, the job, the t-ball coaching. Back to worrying about everyone else. But for now, it’s Amy time and we’re asking for whatever you can manage in the way of support, be it monetary, emotional or physically helping with childcare, cooking. <p>Hi all,<br /><br />Yesterday on Juneteenth, we held a glorious 12 hr celebration of our ancestors and our freedom.  Despite gofundme hindering our access to these funds for whatever reasons. <br />We still managed to cover the following expenses from yesterday's event. <br />- Facilitators who were paid 300 each and will be retroactively paid additional funds when we are given access. <br />- Caterers, who provided individually packaged meals for lunch and dinner with various options to accommodate dietary restrictions. <br />-  A DJ, Pa system, speakers, and a generator for the duration of the event plus one tech person to man the PA all day and attend to any issues as they came up. <br />- All manner of supplies that weren't donated, such as art supplies tables, chairs, ect. <br />- Y-WE trained affinity leaders who led volunteers and facilitated a virtual de-escalation training for all non-black allies that were on the ground as support all day.<br />- Candles, blankets, and other trinkets for both the ancestor's altar and the releasing altar made available to participants during the grief circle. <br />- A black film team to allow our participants to individually share their stories of black healing and liberation. <br /><br />*We are happy to report that we fully supported/paid all-black facilitators and businesses for all of our event needs and staff. <br /><br />We are so grateful to the organizations and people who supported us with donations of masks, supplies, first-aid kits, onsite medics, pastries, snacks, water bottles, fruit,  our CHOP family and our recruited ally team who attended the training and showed up with gentle ferocity to hold the space and educate those who showed up to challenge the necessity of all black healing spaces. <br /><br />The remaining funds will be used to cover two more event days centering healing for the black community which will take place on June 26th and 27th from 9 am-8 pm. <br /> Again we will use the funds to cover the following:<br />- 15 Black facilitators for art circles, grief rituals, writing circles, herbalist,  yoga, meditation, collective altar building, peace circles, orisha dance sessions etc. <br />- To pay a professional photographer to cover both days events.<br />- Art supplies, flower crown building supplies. <br />- film editors to piece together the healing black stories collected. <br />- film people for the healing black story booth round 2<br />- Y-WE affinity leaders to train allies and serve as support staff for the duration of both events. <br />- caterers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on both, days. <br />- gift bags to thank the facilitators.  <br />-website and graphic designer to make information about facilitators, organizers, and events easier to find. <br />- and any additional related expenses that arise. <br /><br />*again we will be supporting black-owned business and people with all the funds (Reparations we raised for this event). <br /><br />For inquiring minds who would like to know here's a bit of information about the organizers<br /><br />1. Mary Hall-Williams: I am a 25yr old University of Washington student. I study Medical Anthropology and Global Health, maintain a 4.0 and am conducting honors research on "Intentional and Automatic Coping Mechanisms in Response to Viral Black Death and Racism. <br /><br />I am a former youth Pastor. I have worked in the past with African American Reach and Teach Health Ministry (AFRATH ) on community health initiatives and sustainability and gardening initiatives for youth including the formation of a community garden and art mural. As a lead teacher at The Good Shepherd's Childcare Center. As a teacher and youth leader at Medhane-Alem Ethiopian Church of Seattle. and with youth organized homeless outreach in downtown Seattle. <br /><br />It's deeply irritating that we are being asked to further prove ourselves and our competence to get funds released as if our previous explanation wasn't enough. <br /><br />2. Reagan Jackson (co-organizer and Director at Y-WE lead) is amazing. If you don't know about Y-WE lead I encourage you to google them and support this amazing non-profit that continues to support youth in Seattle.  Further, she is an awarded author, who has penned books, facilitates writing classes, writes columns and thinks pieces, recently taught a class at Seattle University, and who believed that we could pull off an event in 72hrs and then spent 14hrs with me out on the ground making it happen. <br /><br />Additionally, I would like to offer a radical reminder that black women do not owe you an explanation and that we appreciate the ways you supported not only the Amazing healing space that we made happen in 72hrs on limited energy while also working our regular job shifts and managing being human beings, but also the ways you support the black community at all times by being allies and doing the anti-racist work necessary to make the words "all black healing space" less controversial. <br /><br />Thank you to those who have donated and thank you in advance to gofundme for releasing the funds instead of being a further hindrance to what we are building for our community in a time where the hypervisibility of black death and racism are exasperated and causing the black community daily emotional distress. <br /><br />

Her beautiful smile, sweet spirit, and incredible strength spoke louder than words ever could. On February 6th, 2018, Camryn passed away surrounded by her loving family at Seattle Childrens Hospital. She was 11 years old. While her life was short, we believe that Camryn's legacy lives on. It is our heart's desire to honor Camryn's legacy by continuing to advocate for special needs children and their families.<br /><br />Caring for a special needs child is a full time job and it can become incredibly isolating.  One of our hopes is to install a wheelchair swing that will allow  families a place to venture out with their children and experience one of the most basic of all childhood experiences; swinging at the park.<br /><br />We are thrilled to share that we have received a generous donation of $18,000  from the Sedro-Woolley Rotary Club and have received permission from the City of Sedro-Woolley to install a Liberty wheelchair swing at Riverfront park in memory of Camryn. However, the required 'soft fall' material that goes under the swing is extremely expensive. Combined with fencing, site prep, signage, sidewalk, and miscellaneous materials, we need to raise approximately $30,000 to complete this project. If funds allow, we would love to install a sunshade, benches and possibly more  to help complete the space. With the support of our community, family and friends, we are confident we can do it! Camryn Helgeson Memorial Swing

Rising Up! is a play co-written by Ebo Barton and Sarah Rosenblatt. It is co-directed by Ebo Barton and Neve Be(ast).  The story revolves around the resistance, love, and transition of people we see and know in our community: Queer and Trans People of Color, Queer and Trans People with Disabilities, Queer and Trans Femmes and Queer and Trans working class people. Through the character's journeys, we see how their struggles, identities, and magic come together, endure conflict, and learn about themselves.<br /><br />We are raising money to pay 10 artists.  Our actors/artists have been selected from our community, and though the play is fictional, we intend to depict realistic interpretations of the stories and identities in the play. Thus, our cast is serving as more than just a group of actors but also offering feedback in the process of this production.  Historically, Queer and Trans People of Color are not fairly paid for their work and we'd like to push back on that. <br /><br />We are also raising money for production needs and to assist with rehearsal needs.<br /><br />Rising Up debuts in May 2017, but we'd like to pay the artists for the time they are spending in rehearsals and meetings as soon as possible.<br /><br />We would be so grateful if our community and network would help us in our journey to make this play a reality.  <br /><br />We appreciate any amount anyone is able to give.
