Support for Renee Good’s Widow and Family

My name is Alejandra Villagrana Ibarra , and As devastating as this is I need help and support. On November 18, my father, Leonel Villagrana Flores, & Uncle Isaias Villagrana Flores were taken by ICE while he was working at Bro-Tex in Saint Paul. This has turned our world completely around. My dad has lived in Saint Paul for many years, working long hours and multiple jobs to support his family. He has no criminal record, no history of harm, nothing but a life of hard work and love for his family. He has is a great person he’s honestly a teddy bear in a grizzly bear costume.

My dad came here looking for opportunities for work to support his family back home in Mexico then when his family was built here, like so many immigrants who give everything to build a better life. He has been part of this community for years. He works, he pays taxes, he helps his neighbors, he shows up. And yet, like so many of our people, he is being treated like he does not belong like he is not a person. I’m completely torn having not just my dad but my uncle as well ripped away one morning while all he did was simply wake up and go to work. Me and my family need the support anyone can give now more than ever. He was the main provider and we will need help with living costs and all the lawyer fees we will need to pay. I want this story out for people to realize how much this hurts and how much this affects people

A Father and Uncle Detained: Our Family Needs Your Help!

---español abajo----

On Thursday, June 5th, my dear friends Noé and Adriana Mozo experienced a devastating tragedy when their home was completely destroyed in a house fire. In a matter of minutes, everything they owned—clothing, furniture, photos, keepsakes—was gone. Thankfully, Noé and Adriana were able to escape with their four young children, Arlene, Camila, Perla, and Junior. But heartbreakingly, their beloved dog Shiloh did not survive the fire, and their family cat, Bella, is still missing.

At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the details surrounding insurance coverage—what will be covered and when—remain uncertain. In the meantime, they are left with nothing but the clothes on their backs and are working to replace basic necessities: clothing, shoes, hygiene items, food, and a safe place to stay.

Anyone who knows Noé and Adriana knows how selflessly they give to others. Now, they need our support as they face having to rebuild their lives from scratch while grieving the loss of their family pet and the memories left behind. It’s a deeply painful and overwhelming situation, and they are doing their best to stay strong for their kids.

Please consider donating what you can to help this incredibly kind and generous family recover from this devastating loss. Every dollar will go directly toward helping them secure temporary housing, replace essentials, and begin piecing together a sense of normalcy for their children. No contribution is too small—thank you so much for your love and support.

----------------------------

Help the Mozo family rebuild their lives after tragic fire

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,

Our sweet dog Riker, who has brought so much joy and love into our lives, has recently been diagnosed with low-grade soft tissue sarcoma, a form of cancer. After consulting with our veterinarian, we’ve learned that removing his right hind leg is the best course of action to give Riker the best chance at a long and healthy life.

As you can imagine, this has been a heartbreaking and challenging time. We are committed to ensuring Riker gets the care he needs, but the vet bills are substantial. Some of the costs we are experiencing are the initial $1,000 in pre-biopsy tests, which then referred us to the specialists and surgeons; the $2,500 for the additional testing, ultrasounds, blood work, and biopsy to actually learn what we are dealing with; to now the $6,700 estimated for the surgery itself, which will give Riker a chance at a happy, healthy life. Given the unexpected costs and the unknown post-operative care costs, we are reaching out to our community for any assistance you can provide.

We know that financial times are tough for many, and we absolutely do not want anyone to give beyond their means. We would be incredibly grateful for any contribution to help cover Riker's medical expenses.

Riker (who is an original member from the “Russian Mob Litter” from Mars Animal Shelter where we adopted him) turned nine this past August, and every other aspect of his health is fit. He has always been a ferociously loving pup with a gentle spirit, and we know he can overcome this with the right care. Your support means the world to us and will help give Riker a chance to live out his years happy, healthy, and full of life.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering a donation and for keeping Riker in your thoughts. With much love and light, Lenox, Kari, and Brian (P.S. Our two brother cats, Pacino and Achilles, think Riker is pretty alright, too!)

Help Riker Overcome Cancer and Get Back on His Paws

Melvyn Gilbert-Reeves was a great man who dedicated his life to the work that he believed God called him to; standing up for those who were not able to stand up for themselves. As he often reminded us, justice must come before peace. Well he fought for justice all his life, and now he is at peace. Mel was an inspiration for many as his efforts to better the Twin Cities and the world touched thousands of lives directly. More than that, Mel was a loving father and grandfather and leaves behind a heart shaped hole in his family.
He will be missed by many including his son, Kellen, daughter in law Michelle, and grandchildren David, Christopher, Quentin, Zavier and Zaire. He is joining his grandson Cameron in peace.

Many have reached out to the family to offer support in many forms and we have created this space for those that would like to provide financial support towards his arrangements as we work to honor him by celebrating his life well, as a lifetime of fighting for justice does not a wealthy man make. We thank you for your thoughts, prayers, messages, and the love you had for Mel.

Paying Tribute to Brother Mel Reeves

***updated stretch goal: $4,700***

i’ve been selected as part of a small group (18ppl- majority people of color) among many applicants to join rev angel kyodo williams and 3 incredible co-facilitators in the be.ing transformation retreat in molokai, hawai’i! as i write this, i leave tomorrow to spend a week living close to the land and engaging in deep transformational work around healing, embodiment, and wielding both power and love in service of justice. it is work geared to help retreatants deepen and organize toward their place in the collective and in the labor of creating a more thriving world and environment for all.

the retreat will guide us in becoming ‘more aligned, more mature adults,’ self-evolving and self-transforming, as deeply conscious and responsive parts of the greater whole.

- - -
*$1750 will cover the remaining cost of the retreat (rev has created a pooled crowdfund for a number of us needing financial assistance in order to participate).
*$470 is the amount of income i will miss during the week of the retreat.
*$1080 is the cost of my flights and my final night’s stay on molokai.
==this is a total of {$3300}
- - -

i am so excited and ready for this work! the arcs of everything i have been working on over the past decade has clearly pointed me to and prepared me for this work at this time. deciding to apply, committing to going, and then the intense processing leading up to finally being able to write this and share it with you all has been some of the most challenging, meaningful, and exciting work i’ve done in my life so far.

i’ve been working tirelessly over the past years on my own personal healing and to understand and work toward true collective liberation and justice. i’ve dedicated myself to practices and ways of moving and engaging that are counterintuitive to the scripts, frameworks, and ‘common sense’ that were handed to me by our shared western culture. in working to heal the confusions and contortions of my mind, heart, and relationships, i realized more and more how what i was grappling with was so much more than my own individual being- that i was actually grappling with my entrenchment in the shaping matrices of many overlapping and interlocking systems of violence, oppression, and harm- notably: racism, misogyny, heterosexism, settler colonialism, and racialized capitalism.

because of the way aspects of my identity (my skin, my gender, my sexuality) intersect with the various systems of dominance, marginalization, and oppression that shape our society- combined with my inheritance of our collective ills communicated transgenerationally through my family lineages and through greater social cultures- i’ve had to do a lot of work to identify and address internalized intersectional oppressions just to do my own 'personal' emotional healing properly and begin to inhabit myself more fully in the world.

this necessary learning and growth has given me growing clarity around the nature and structuring of these systems that constrain, distort, and limit us all from our full humanity and collectivity. it’s deepened me into my purpose and vocational path, and continues to strengthen my resolve and willingness to make the choices and investments i have been making. i know it is not just for my own benefit- but as my favorite rev angel quote offers, ‘love and justice are not two. without inner change there can be no outer change. without collective change, no change matters.’

[here’s 3 more paragraphs i wrote on the nature of intersectional oppression, the burden and investment of labor, barriers to access and support, and associated inequity of resource distribution as it relates to my own story and where i am today: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fkoQgo9Kme3tfrD2-ECb0hsgjG_SyyeUXjJqUvANwKg/edit?usp=sharing ]

since shelter-in-place started, i’ve been immersing myself in practice and collective spaces organized by rev angel. the work has taken me so much deeper into my own healing and becoming, clarified my work for justice and liberation in our collective, and given me tools and platforms to develop my skills as a mindfulness facilitator and educator. it has helped me become a more present and engaged participant in all of my communities. i’m looking forward to this retreat as a chance to deepen further, clarify, and unlock my deeper potential as an agent of change in this world.

walking this path and continuing and deepening in spaces created by rev angel over the last year has allowed me to heal and to contribute so meaningfully in my professional, social, and healing/transformational circles, employing my hard-earned wisdom and skills in service of educating and inviting justice around issues of race, diversity, and healing more broadly. walking this path has also only been possible through the investment of much time and resources and by the sacrifice of turning away from engagements that are more readily financially rewarded in our society.

- - -

anything raised beyond my $3300 stretch goal will go toward giving some amount to the crowdfunding pool for the other people going on the retreat and then toward my ~$11k of credit card debt. i will be better positioned to heal my trauma and clarify my capacities to grow and share my wisdom and skills, as more of my energy is freed from the weight of this burden.

i invite your support, $5, $50, $500, or a love note!

i particularly invite that any giving be done in the spirit of what feels supportive to your own and our collective liberation. please let any feeling of 'should' be let go of. it may not be time or the amount to give if the thought incites an experience of contraction more than a feeling of opening and vulnerability, a greater sensitivity to your own truth, love, and excitement of possibility.

may your engagement here with this and with me and all that follows be of service to our collective liberation and joyful becoming together! thank you for being a part of this life we all share together!

with great warmth of heart,
gratitude and joy,

willi.

_/|_ <3<3

Please join us in supporting Oshen Turman, as she mourns the passing of her mother, Joan. This is an opportunity for our extended family (that means us) to support them during her time of grieving. We may not have had the chance to know Joan, and we help because we are called to do so.

Joan was born in 1945 and was a long-time resident of Oakland, CA. Joan lost her fight with cancer on April 11 of this week.

Joan was a white-bodied woman who broke from tradition by marrying a Black man at the cost of losing connection to family members and friends. Their marriage took place over 35 years ago at Lake Merrit.

The couple adopted Oshen who had been in foster care and adopted at age 3. Joan was a Buddhist and raised her children in Buddhist values and principles.

At this time, Oshen needs the love, emotional and financial support from our collective family. And we are called to answer this need.

Beyond the space to properly grieve their loss, Oshen is faced with multiple large expenses ahead. These range from the (Hazmat) cleaning of Joan's house post-mortem (as she died in her home), to funds for the cremation, urn, and services.

Our goal is to cover these expenses as well as to offer Oshen a period of time to live without worry (as Oshen is unemployed currently during this global pandemic). There will be childcare service needs (as Oshen has a young child and needs to provide care for him as she handles the family business), the cost of everyday living, as well as some well-deserved self-care for Oshen.

Please donate what you can to this fund.

Gift cards such as grubhub, target, door dash, instacart and uber eats are also welcome at this time and should be sent directly to [email redacted].

Thank you for joining us in the support of our family.

For Oshen In Memory of Joan Turman

It only takes one encounter with Mathew to know that you've met someone truly remarkable. His smile lights up a room and he moves about this world with so much grace, playfulness and love. His friends, family, fellow dancers and coworkers all know what a gift it is to to have Mathew in our lives.

This past year has dealt a tough hand to Mathew. Earlier in 2018, Mathew suffered a series of heart attacks despite being incredibly active and healthy. It came as a shock to all. More recently, Mathew and his partner Brian received the news that Mathew has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). In May, Mathew will begin 6-8 months of chemotherapy, which require that he receive inpatient treatment for 5-6 days each month for targeted radiation and chemo. No one should ever have to fight cancer without the strength and force of their community behind him. Let's come together to support Mathew during this time by helping him cover the burdensome costs of his treatment. Thank you for being a part of Mathew's community!

Help Native & Black Trans woman avoid leave abusive household and avoid homelessness.

Hello everyone! I’m making this GoFundMe on behalf of a friend who wishes to remain anonymous for their safety.

My friend is in a very difficult situation as a disabled Transwoman who relies entirely on her family for support.

With complete financial control often comes abuses of power where my friend isn't allowed to make any decisions about her life which leaves her hopeless and has become detrimental to her mental health. Her disability prevents her from working.

She doesn’t feel she can live openly and freely in her current situation without any agency or independence. In the past when she’s tried to stand up for herself she’s been kicked out and cut off financially.

The funds raised will help her secure housing and get her on her feet to start this journey to independence as she applies for disability benefits, finds housing/relocates and so on.

Assalamu Alaikum (peace be unto you),

Several members of the Black Liberation Project, are fundraising to go on two trips this Summer. The first is an organizing and team-building trip to the Black Muslim Psychology Conference in Philadelphia at the end of July and the second is a healing/retreat to New York City at the end of August. These trips would function as healing and to connect with groups nationally to figure out how to sustain movements and prevent burnout. BLP is an organization of Black Mus
lims working for racial justice through a faith-based framework. We would benefit immensely from going to a conference centered on the intersections of Blackness, Islam, psychology, social justice and mental health. About ½ of the money raised would go towards the trip to Philadelphia (airfare, hotel accommodations, travel/food and conference registration fees for 3 organizers). The other ½ of the money raised would go towards a self-care healing retreat to NYC as well as the chance to connect and build with Black Muslim organizers in New York. So much of our works depends on expanding the movement past local issues and connecting with like-minded individuals and organizations around the country to amplify our campaigns, and this trip would allow us to do that much more effectively.

BLP has been at the center of the movement in the Twin Cities for over two years and our members have taken numerous arrests and assaults by the police during that time. On top of our movement related trauma, we also shoulder the everyday trauma that comes with poverty, Islamophobia, racism, misogynoir etc etc. We’ve been working nonstop since we formed as a group two years ago and are in much need of a break so we can regroup and move into the fall re-energized, focused and ready to continue working. Any amount towards our fundraising goal is greatly appreciated but if you can’t afford to give anything, please share and boost within your networks. Thank you for your continued support!

Rosy wants to make her comfortable which requires pain management and therapy.

Additionally, Rosy has to move in May because Sadie cannot manage the stairs to her third floor apartment.

The cost of the MRI, surgery, subsequent vet visits, and now the move is a huge financial strain on Rosy.

Sadie was adopted just two years ago and is turning five in April. She is so full of love and life. Sadie has been Rosy's constant compainion for the last two years. Anyone who knows Rosy has enjoyed endless photos and conversation about Sadie and their adventures in the woods.

It would take years to detail all that he has worked so hard for, surely his legacy is in our freedom and the truth that so many would hide. It is in his poetry, his teaching, his installations, his word, his heart, his voice, and every person he has invested in on a daily basis.

Kirk Washington Jr, is a multi-disciplinary artist from the North Side of Minneapolis. Never Stop Creating

I (Wesley) was a victim of an attack on the 4th precinct by the white supremacist that happened on November 23rd 2015 on 14th and Morgan. I need urgent funding for medical bills and housing because me and my family (my step-dad James and step-sisters) are homeless as of right now. Me and my family appreciate any help thank you and God bless you all.

During the past month, me and my family have been seeking urgent help to find housing and jobs. We've been trying to get a place and enough revenue to pay the rent for a month while we seek employment, go to school and become stable on our own.

Update: we signed a lease last night (January 19th) and are starting to move in today!

Getting into an apartment has taken most of our GoFundMe resources. My cousin Nashilah made another GoFundMe for our medical bills (I am still recovering from my gunshot wound). Please pass the word around.

We thank you for any assistance that you can give, whether it be funds, or leads on jobs, or furniture and things for our new apartment. If not, please pray for us.

Theatre, Dance, Music, Art and Radio are back at North High School in Minneapolis and the talent our students demonstrate is very real. These kids are bursting with skill, dedication and passion in the arts. However, we are a new program and resources are limited. While many high school conservatories, private schools, and affluent public schools are able to send their young artists on trips to New York, L.A. and even London each year, there exists a great deal of new talent that never gets this kind of opportunity. Here at North, we are determined not to let statistics get the best of us in a never-ending quest to provide our students with unlimited opportunities.

Our faculty has a wide range of contacts with local artists and access to artistic resources in the L.A. area, all of which are hoping to work with our students. In the world of making art and succeeding in show business, it is essential for aspiring arists to begin networking and to experience real-world processes as soon as possible. Therefore, we hope to bring a group of North High artists to L.A. May 14 - 17th for a 3-day immersive experience in the L.A. arts scene.

Here is just a brief overview of what he have set up for our trip thus far:

Group Interviews with successful writers, producers, actors, dancers, and directors.

Day in the life of a company member - Lula Washington Dance Theatre

Solo Artist Alumni Visit With Jacelyn Johnson -We will discuss how she got where she did, the role of taking class in her professional career, and agent knowledge for artists

Tentative Studio Visit with Dengue Fever- Offered to hang with us after the talkback in early January

If you have been following the news at all, you may be wondering if North High is in North Minneapolis - the same place where Jamar Clark was shot just a few months ago and where protests have become perpetual. It is. The angst and social controversy that exists so heavily in the city of Minneapolis weighs down on our students and our school. Not only would this trip be an opportunity for students to connect with professionals and learn about the logistics of working as an arist, but it would give them a break from some of the hardships that hover at home.

Plane tickets aren't cheap, but keeping a kid's dream alive is invaluable. Help us bring these kids on a trip that could potentially change their lives.

Hey everyone, we're calling on the community to support Mychal Fisher as he has lost all his clothing, sound equipment and everything in his home due to a fire that broke out on the Northside engulfing the whole block. I ask that you all stand with Mychal and support this brother who put so much into our community. Give what you can and show that #BlackLivesMatter

Friends and Community Members,

We come together with a hunger for racial justice through practical action and structural change. We come with a commitment to the messy, hard work of it, and a deep sense of responsbility to our communities. We came knowing we are going to say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing, but that we have to show up anyway. We know there is simply is no other choice but to keep working, keep practicing, and to keep showing up.

We also know that we need to get serious about resources. In order to grow multi racial space for racial justice work, and in order to fund and resource organizers of color who are leading this same work in POC and Native-led spaces, we need you to contribute Thank you, so much, to everyone who has already given and invested already in this work.

In honor of those who have come before, please join me in reaching a goal of $15000 for further racial justice work, and to fund community trainings by and for native folks and people of color.

Post on your facebook wall, ask your friends, ask yourself if you can make an additional contribution. if we work together, if we find the courage to keep asking, I know that we can do this.

With gratitude and appreciation,
Liz Loeb
Susan Raffo
Arif Mamdani
Ricardo Levins Morales
