<div>Over the last two weeks, we became concerned to see Jax gradually getting worse: we noticed that he was experiencing limb weakness, an inability to walk, play, or do his business properly.

<div>After an MRI, Jax was diagnosed with an advanced osteosarcoma tumor growing inside the bone in his upper spine. The 2 inch tumor is pressing on his spinal cord, causing severe pain and limb mobility loss.
</div>

<div>He will have surgery on Tuesday, 5/21, followed by an oncology appointment to start chemotherapy. This is a devastating diagnosis, as this cancer is known to be terminal, but he should feel significant relief after the surgery and be able to have time to experience his favorite things over the coming months.
</div>

</div>
<div>So far, his treatment plan is totaling over $13,000 - this includes the diagnostics, scheduled surgery, and future costs of a year’s worth of chemo or more.
</div>

<div>Hi, y'all. My name is Lauren Byrd, and I’d like to tell you about my best friend. Take Leslie Knope and mix in the best traits from the gals in Steel Magnolias along with a hearty helping of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and perhaps a sass-mouthed Mother Theresa, and you’d have Joan Hodges. She’s started and championed several GoFundMe campaigns along with doing any and everything to help her family, friends, community, and country. A few of the 3,000 masks she sewed and donated during the COVID pandemic are part of the #freemaskforeveryone exhibits at the Smithsonian. On her 50th birthday, she conducted a book drive for kids, and her work with Moody Middle School students supporting the Daily Plenty garnered a Youth Philanthropy award. She's an amazing mother to her son Cole, a loving wife and best friend to her husband Art, a loyal sister, and a beloved daughter to Mary Almond.

<div>Joan taught English, drama, public speaking, reading intervention, and more as a public school teacher for 22 years in VA and 6 years in Japan with the Dept. of Defense. She was a National Board Certified Teacher, Chesterfield Teacher of the Year, and an R.E.B. Excellence in Teaching award recipient. In addition to academics, Joan built vibrant theater arts and Forensics programs in her schools along with directing Talent Shows, pep rallies, and sponsoring school-wide charitable service activities including several Relay for Life events to benefit The American Cancer Society. That woman created magic on stage and in her classroom. Words cannot express how vital she was to the schools fortunate enough to have her on staff, and thousands of students were positively impacted by her devoted teaching. Joan retired this July and recently completed a dream renovation project with her husband Art. They restored a historic Henrico, VA schoolhouse to become their forever home. How fitting that she lives in a “little old schoolhouse.”

As many of you know, after several months of declining health and uncertainty, she has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and will need aggressive treatment and care. Even with insurance, the cost to battle cancer will significantly impact or deplete the savings she’s earned as a public school teacher. Chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, medications, nutritional therapy, and any and every type of resource is an option with our help. Joan’s a voracious fighter, and every dollar raised will go toward her treatment as well as ease the economic burden of missed work. Joan is facing this challenge with hope and an attitude of gratitude. She has never given up on a student or a cause, and those of us who love her will not give up on her. <div>Heather's beloved soul dog Diesel is at the emergency vet, for what they think to be either rat poisoning, a severe bacteria to a tick bite or a rare cancer. It's touch and go right now, but he is a fighter and we hope that he will continue to improve with each passing day. The anti-coagulant treatment plan, along with the other medications he is on plus several nights of hospital stays will add up quickly. We are raising money to help the burden of his vet bills.

<strong>Help M.O.M.S VA make another miracle story...<br /><br /></strong>Gabby is 4-month old puppy who needs a life-saving surgery on her heart within the next 30 days. Please consider making a donation of any amount to help cover the veterinary costs so that we can save her life. <br /><br />Gabby was born in rural Virginia with a Stage 4 heart murmur, otherwise known as a PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus).  Her puppy check-up uncovered the heart murmur and then an echocardiogram confirmed that an open valve in her heart threatens her life.  The valve should have closed before Gabby was born. <br /><br />In order to live, Gabby will need surgery within the next 30 days. Without the surgery, Gabby will most likely succumb to heart failure by the time she is a year old. The surgery could cost anywhere from $2,700 to $3,300 and we are hoping you can help us raise the funding to save Gabby. <br /><br />Gabby’s surgery is involves opening up her tiny little chest and going through her rib cage to tie up the valve. According to the veterinarian cardiologist, this surgery has a 90%-95% success rate and with her current condition, we are confident she won't run into any future issues with the valve. After 2 weeks of recovery, she should be ready for her spay, and then ready to meet her “furrever” (forever) family.<br /><br />Gabby is a beautiful puppy who deserves to grow into a beautiful dog.  She is a rough-and-tumble little girl who barely shows any sign that her heart is working overtime. She's just as lively (if not, more) as her littermates and has so much fun playing with her foster siblings. If we can save her, she is going to make someone's life so incredibly happy for years to come. <p>Loving and fun-loving.<br />Spirited and Spirit-filled.<br />Full of life, now struggling for life. <br /><br />Andrea (Barr) Wyatt, a vibrant 30-year-old, counts the days until her kidney transplant. A graduate of Atlee High School and Virginia Commonwealth University, Andrea devoted more than a year to teaching English to students in South Korea. During this life-changing experience, in 2010, she began experiencing symptoms of lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. After returning to the States, three years of countless diagnoses, treatments, and hospitalizations ensued. Six months after marrying her college sweetheart, Wren Wyatt, she was diagnosed with lupus nephritis: an immune disorder that mistakenly attacks her kidneys with life-threatening consequences. In 2015, Andrea’s kidneys failed completely, succumbing to end-stage renal disease, but her courage and resolve never wavered.<br /><br />Now waiting for a kidney match, Andrea endures dialysis three afternoons every week, four hours per session … while working full-time! As external machines pump and cleanse her blood, everyone marvels: Andrea never complains, never gives up. “I don’t live with lupus; lupus lives with me,” she says. “My positivity, perseverance, and faith in God have helped me and my family through this journey.”<br /><br />Andrea and Wren (a 2006 University of Virginia graduate now working towards his master’s degree at VCU) face seemingly insurmountable financial difficulties, as ANY of us would in a similar situation.<br /><br />Even with the help of insurance, the medical bills and costs associated begin to pile up. As many of you know Abby's mom passed away. She just moved to Denver, and works a job where she is paid hourly. She needs to come home and spend time with family during one of the hardest times in her life. She feels she cannot take off work because she won't get paid, and she just incurred a lot of expenses from moving.  Abby would never ask anyone for money, but I know she needs the help.<br /><br />Erin and I wanted to raise some money for her, so that she can stay a few extra days with family without having to worry about money. Funerals are also extremely expensive now a days. She has enough to worry about right now.<br /><br />Any little bit can help.
