Last night, a reported F2 tornado in Libertytown decimated Michele Wellman's beautiful By Chance Farm indoor and barn. By Chance Farm is the home of many licensed and schooling shows &amp; clinics, providing enjoyment, recreation, and competition for so many in a wide area. Michele has always opened her doors to the community, creating a welcoming space for riders and horse lovers of all ages.

 Unfortunately, insurance will not cover all of Michele's expenses. Not only do mortgages still need to be paid, but Michele has lost her income as well. The devastation has left her facing overwhelming costs to rebuild and keep the farm running. She was found unresponsive by her son and was immediately airlifted via Flight for Life to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood. As of today, she is undergoing critical surgery for a severed spine (C2, C3, and C4 vertebrae). The doctors are doing everything they can, but the prognosis is uncertain. If she survives, she is facing a life-changing road to recovery and likely paralysis.

She also examined the missed warnings about Hurricane Harvey and the <a href="https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/investigations/article/Highly-confidential-School-fund-s-13631976.php" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">mismanagement of Texas' $44 billion public</a> school endowment. She exposed the risks and frequency of <a href="https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/over-in-an-instant/article/How-can-this-happen-4833168.php" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">children struck by vehicles</a> traveling in reverse at low speeds that hastened federal law changes requiring backup cameras in cars and trucks.

She led an early investigation into problems at a chemical plant ill-prepared for the storm that later led to one of the largest civil lawsuits related to Harvey.

Those of us who have had the extraordinary privilege to know Mandy responded and gave back so much of the kindness, love and care that Mandy put into this world. <div>Mandy was diagnosed with breast cancer and it was initially thought to be in remission in late 2019. It spread to her central nervous system (brain and spine) in 2020.

<div>Her care team at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York stayed on top of it for more than two years, allowing her to have a very high quality of life. But beginning late last summer, her problems started to compound, with seizures emerging and treatments becoming less effective.

<div>Mandy spent more than two decades as a journalist and newsroom leader. She was a pioneer in digital media and helped newsrooms adapt for the digital age, developing strategies for online news presentation, finding new audiences with social media, and using the internet for reporting. She was a beloved mentor and editor who was enthusiastic about helping others in their careers.
</div>

<div>She had a thirst for the world and knowledge that was unrivaled. Mandy traveled extensively, visiting at least 35 countries and all 50 states. Her most notable trips include the Olympics in Brazil and South Korea, hiking the Annapurna Trail in Nepal, a safari in Kenya, and trips to Russia, Latvia, Egypt and India to train fellow journalists.

Mandy Jenkins Memorial for Breast Cancer Research

Hi! This is Koda, a twelve year old school horse here at Woodland Horse Center.  We were fortunate enough to add Koda to the Woodland family in October of 2020 and she immediately fit in here at the barn.  In her short time with us thus far, her sweet disposition on the ground and under saddle has made her popular among many students and staff alike.  She even went so far as to place reserve champion at a recent hunter show. Unfortunately, we discovered that she has bladder stone that is severely affecting her quality of life and requires surgery as soon as possible. The surgery will cost $4,000 and while Woodland is able to cover the cost of transportation as well as rehabilitation, we are reaching out to our community in hopes that we can raise the money to get Koda the help she needs. While we recognize that now is a difficult time to be asking for money, we are determined to help our amazing horse regain her health and any donation would be greatly appreciated. Johnson.  This Sergeant, 25, of Miami Gardens, Fla., was ambushed in Niger while providing training and security assistance to the Nigeriens Armed Forces in the region overwhelmed by Boko Haram.  What a tragedy!  Role Model Sgt. Johnson leaves behind two children, ages 2 and 6, along with his beloved wife and soulmate Mrs. Myeshia Johnson.  Mrs. Johnson is currently pregnant with their third child. The 5000 Role <u>Models</u> of Excellence Project, is establishing a Role Model Army Sgt. La David T. Johnson Scholarship to benefit his children by providing money towards their college education. We are asking you to donate to this worthy cause.

Jackie Koivu has been a Ferndale volunteer and community activist for over 2 decades. She has worked tirelessly for the city of Ferndale, Ferndale Public Schools and for Zion Lutheran Church. Jackie is a mother of 3 and grandmother of 2.<br /><br />Jackie and her husband Neil have been living out of state for several years and recently returned home to Ferndale.<br /><br />Jackie has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and is undergoing chemo at U of M Hospital.  Because of this, she is unable to work.  <br /><br />Let's give back to Jackie in her time of need.
