<div>Hello everyone, we want to share our story with you. Our son, <strong>Cristian</strong>, wasn't feeling like himself for a few weeks, just feeling a bit off. Nothing terribly bad to make us think he was as sick as he would turn out to be. On Sunday, April 26th, we took him to the emergency room where they told us he would need to be transferred to Rush University to have blood transfusions and for further tests to see what was causing his low levels. Nothing could prepare us for what was coming next.

<div>We were met by the PICU staff along with the Oncology staff at Rush University Hospital. They explained to us that they suspected he has <strong>Leukemia</strong>, which was later confirmed. He is currently fighting a Staph infection. He has to be cleared before he gets his PICC line placed to start his chemo.

<div>Fortunately, he is feeling better with the blood and platelets he has received and with the antibiotics. 
</div>
<div><br />

On Tuesday, January 27, he was enjoying a snowy day off school with friends when he slipped climbing a hill, slid further than anyone could have stopped, and went out into the street where he was struck by a car. Those on the scene acted with incredible speed and care, and he was quickly evacuated by helicopter to University of Virginia Children’s Hospital.

<div>Since that afternoon, Deacon has been in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at UVA receiving around-the-clock care from a remarkably kind and impressive team of doctors, nurses, and specialists. He has suffered multiple injuries: a broken arm (already repaired with surgery), a broken clavicle, a broken nose, fractures around his eye and other facial bones, and most critically, a severe concussion that is keeping him unconscious. As terrifying as this is, it could have been much worse, and doctors are optimistic.

<div>If you know Deacon, you know he’s kind and goofy and endlessly trying to make people laugh—the kid is already delivering dad jokes to perfection at age 11! He’s a year-round swimmer and a budding actor getting ready for his first play this spring. And whatever it is that he loves, he jumps right into it with his whole heart. He has an effortless way of making people feel seen and included, whether that’s sitting with the new kid at lunch, calming a nervous teammate, or happily striking up a conversation with any adult nearby. That fearless, openhearted enthusiasm is simply who he is, and it pulls everyone around him in.

<div>We don’t know when Deacon will wake up. We don’t know how long he will need to stay in the hospital. We don’t know what the full road to recovery will look like. What we do know is that he’s a strong and resilient little kid, he is being cared for by an extraordinary medical team, and his parents, Stephanie and Daniel, are by his side every moment of the day and night. Back home, Deacon’s big brother Sawyer and their dog Ellie are being lovingly cared for by Deacon’s grandparents so Steph and Daniel can be by Deacon’s side.

Helping a Brave, Goofy Kid Heal: Deacon’s Story

<div>On Thursday, March 12, 2026, Technical Sergeant Ashley Pruitt tragically lost her life in a crash involving a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker while serving in Iraq. Ashley was doing the job she loved and was incredibly proud to serve her country. She joined the United States Air Force in the spring of 2017 and found her passion as a boom operator. Ashley took great pride in her work and in supporting the mission every day. As a TSgt., she was also a leader who cared deeply about the Airmen she worked with.

<div> More than anything, Ashley loved her family. She was a devoted wife to Greg and a loving mother to their three-year-old daughter, Emilia, and her stepson, Oliver. <div>On Thursday, March 12, the Jewish community in West Bloomfield, Michigan experienced a moment that none of us will ever forget.

<div>At a little after 12:00 PM, a terrorist drove a truck into Temple Israel in an attempt to carry out a devastating attack. Inside the building at the time were more than 100 preschool children, along with over 50 staff members, educators, maintenance workers, and security personnel.

<div>In the face of unimaginable danger, the security team and staff acted with incredible courage and professionalism. Because of their heroism, and what many are calling a miracle, every single child and adult in the building survived. By the end of the day, all of the preschoolers were safely reunited with their families.

<div>While we are deeply grateful that no lives were lost, the emotional impact of this event on our children, teachers, staff, security members and families is profound. A place that represents safety, learning, and community became the scene of fear and uncertainty in a matter of moments.

Along the way, we’ve grown stronger, working through growing pains, uncomfortable conversations, and all the things that come with building a real, lasting partnership.
