The Upper River Peacekeeping Collective in New Mexico is here to help maintain a non-violent tone at local rallies and public protests. We work closely with local groups planning demonstrations and communicate with participants, organizers and others. We are skilled in de-escalating conflict and help to maintain the goals of the demonstrators. This work is needed more than ever these days and we are dedicated to continuing to fill this need. We believe in the right to protest.

<div>Shanan went into the hospital on Monday, January 9th with extreme pain. She was recovering from back surgery that was still after some weeks giving her a lot of pain. They admitted her to the hospital right away and discovered that she had an SSI (surgical site infection) which was at a life-threatening level. She has remained in the hospital and is battling sepsis. This has been a very emotional time for their family and Shanan is still managing a lot of pain and has a long road to recovery.

Hi everyone, <br /><br />My husband and I met Eduardo Martinez last year, when he came to our house to do yard work.  Through the past year we have come to know him and become familiar with him and his family. He is very hard working and a great father.  5 years ago, he won the full custody of his toddler and his step son, and since then he has taken care of them while doing yard work around Santa Fe and Los Alamos. This year has been very hard for him and his family. He didn't have much work during the winter season,  and then the Pandemic started. A week ago, he told me he couldn't come to work at my house because his truck's motor failed and he doesn't have an alternate vehicle. His truck was essential for his job, and I would like to help him to purchase another one so he can continue working and supporting his children. His livelihood is his sole source of income and he receives no outside assistance. Helping him means so much to us because he will be able to keep his family together, and continue to provide them with what they need. Thank you so much!

Navajo & Hopi Families COVID-19 Relief Fund

I was diagnosed with stage III Rectal Cancer in March of 2019.  After chemotherapy and radiation treatments I will require surgery to remove the remaining cancer.  Unfortunately, I only have partial insurance coverage ( Medicare A)  that does not cover the doctor's fees. I have been quoted an amount of $9600 by my surgeon and anesthesiologist in order to perform the surgery, plus any extra amounts that will be billed upon discharge.  I am unable to work at this time and living off social security. This amount poses a hardship for me and my family. Surgery is scheduled for January 6.   Any amount donated would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

John's Life Saving Cancer Surgery

Gavin Pardeiro was a passenger in a horrible car accident this morning on May 13th. He is currently in critical condition and becoming more stable. He will be undergoing surgery tomorrow morning. Gavin is so strong and we know he is going to pull through. Medical expenses are expected to be extremely high and the family should not have to worry about. In the past 38 years of living on and off in my hometown, I have been blessed with true angels who have been there through it all. My beloved doctor, midwife, and friend Lenya Reese has been one of those angels. At 15 I found myself pregnant and lost. Lenya sought me out and offered to be my midwife for free. I will never forget the depth of her generosity at time when I needed it the most. Lenya has given countless hours of love and care for our community over so many years. Now Lenya needs our help. Below you will find a letter from Lenya’s daughter Risa about Lenya’s condition and how we can all help this woman we all cherish.<br /><br /> I am organizing this fundraising campaign on behalf of the family. In the meantime, I will be posting updates on Lenya’s condition as information becomes available on this site. <br /><br /> Here is Risa’s letter to all of you...<br /><br /> Dearest Community,<br /><br />As many of you have already heard my sweet mama Lenya was recently diagnosed with high grade uterine cancer. For those of you that don’t know who my mama is: Lenya is a women’s health provider, homeopath, and midwife practicing a unique blend of Alternative and traditional Western medicine. Lenya has been serving women and their families in Northern New Mexico for over 40 years. <br /><br />As a healer/ practitioner and someone who has committed her life to tending to the uterus, women's bodies and well-being, the irony of this diagnosis is astounding and has left our family and community reeling. She was originally diagnosed with two strains of aggressive, non-hormone related cancer. On November 27, Lenya underwent a radical hysterectomy in which her uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, omentum and 32 lymphs were removed. The surgery was successful in removing the entirety of the tumor, which amazingly, had not spread beyond her uterus. This was a small miracle and one we gratefully received. The other marvel that we have since discovered is that the rarer and more aggressive strain originally diagnosed was no longer present in the pathology report.<br /><br />The course of therapy has yet to be clearly determined and will require several opinions both Western and Alternative. We will be seeking these opinions at facilities such as MD Anderson, Hope for Cancer and private specialists out of state.<br /><br />My mother being the warrior that she is, will be seeking alternative therapy from holistic oncologist's and cancer specialists. Needless to say all of the above informed opinions are not contracted with Medicare and their (very steep) fees will be paid entirely out of pocket.<br /><br /> Many of you have asked how you can help and give back to the many years of service Lenya has given. Our family's hearts are so full of gratitude for all the offerings of food, prayers, flowers and well wishes already received and we thank you so much for everything you have already contributed!<br /><br /> <br />If you would like to offer a gift, our family humbly and graciously asks for contributions to her Gofundme campaign in the hopes that she can receive the care and expertise that she has so selflessly given to the Northern New Mexico community for the last 40 years. <br /><br /> In gratitude,<br /><br />Risa

Dan Beirne’s Guilty Pleasures Band

I  recently found out that, based upon my academic standing and community involvement, I was the one student in my entire high school that was chosen by teachers to go to an intensive summer law and trial program at Stanford University in California.  It has been my life long dream to become a lawyer and this opportunity makes it seem closer to coming true.  But I need your help. <br /><br />My family was able to come up with the money to pay for the air travel, but I need to raise the money to pay for the program itself.  Will you please consider supporting my pre college Stanford study?
