My sister and brother-in-law, The<strong> Johnsons</strong>, suffered a devastating loss of their beautiful home of 39 years in the Eaton fire in Altadena, CA. They lived there with our 92-year-old mother, and my niece and nephew, and their pet pooch. They have lost everything and escaped the fire with their lives and very, very few belongings. We all thought they would evacuate and come back in the morning to their home. I am so thankful to God that they are safe!

</div>
<div>As a Puerto Rican writer and filmmaker, I am drawn to stories about the Latino experience in America. Reading Sonia's memoir, "Becoming Maria," I related deeply to her journey, especially her love of television as a source of sanctuary.
</div>

</div>
<div>My connection with Sonia grew when I developed her memoir for television. Working with Sonia and Steven Canals, we created a half-hour comedy about a Puerto Rican family and a protagonist caught between two worlds—a theme explored in this film.
</div>

</div>
<div>In 2020, during the pandemic, Sonia asked me to write for her new PBS animated show, ALMA'S WAY. I felt so lucky to learn from Sonia and thought, “What if others had the opportunity to learn from Sonia’s wisdom as an adult?” She could answer so many questions, like: How did she get to Sesame Street? How did she persevere?"

<div>This is Mandie writing, I am Gregory's partner. Our dear friend, Gregory Lee, has left his earth body and joined the angels officially as of March 19th at 1pm.

<div>Greg had a massive brain aneurysm followed by cardiac arrest late Sunday, March 17 in our home in Paramount.


</div>


<div>I found him on the floor unconscious and not breathing. I immediately called for 911 and the first responders were through the door within moments. They were able to regain his pulse, but he was not able to breathe on his own. He has been on life support in the NICU ever since and has not regained consciousness. The neurologist let us know his case is very rare and that the moment was swift. He did not suffer.

<div>Greg is survived by his 4 children, Elsa, Vivienne, Khaleah, and our currently unnamed baby girl due in September.  His children are his whole world.

<div>Gregory will also live on in every piece of music he wrote and recorded, in every photo and video you took at a Hepcat show or scooter rally, and in every memory you have of him. To all of his loving friends and fans, I am so sorry for this monumental loss.

On June 9th 2020 our beloved Carmena (Mena) lost her  battle to the  horrible virus Covid-19. We know Carmena fought with all she had. Carmena was a loving mother to her 4 beautiful children Anthony III , Andrew , Adrian and Chloe who Mena loved with all she had in her they were her world and she lived every day for them .
