<div>I'm Teresa's friend, Mimi ... and am concerned about her (yeah, I know she looks chipper in the picture -- and she's going to kill me for posting that one, oops.)  She's in a hospital in Israel, after taking what was to be a much needed holiday in the sunshine.  Her hip just gave out, gave up, failed her, unexpectedly.  She's been in a holding pattern waiting to either get a hip replacement there, or to be shipped home and wait for NHS to replace it.  Her travel insurance is moving slowly, but that will, get sorted out.

<div>The problem is that after this last year (taking time off to care for Mitt and all that sadness) she is on half-pay with leave from her job, and that isn't going to keep her afloat. It may take her many months to get back to 100% (or in her case 110% as she's that kind of person).

<div>She was very reluctant to let me ask for help, but she needs it.  She is very concerned about the possibility of many months before she can return to work.  And, if it turns out she needs to "go private" to get the hip replacement faster (no clue how the UK health stuff works) she really doesn't have the reserves.

As many of you guys may have heard My little brother Giovanni Vasquez was a tragic victim to a negligent drunk driver on the night of 11/18/18. He was on his way home from work when this unexpected tragedy that will forever change our lives occurred. He was a young 19 year old with his whole life ahead of him. <br />Millions of people across the world have seen the video of that shows a white woman who called the police on me (left, in photo) and a friend for #BBQingWhileBlack.  This week lots of you will probably see another video from Lake Merritt in Oakland that shows a man throwing a homeless man's belongings into the lake. <br /><br />That homeless man's name is Drew (he's in the middle in the pic) and he's lived at Lake Merritt for a long time. Like the thousands of other people in the Bay Area without homes, Drew is one of our neighbors. We're disgusted that someone thought it was ok to treat Drew this way and want to show him through our care that what happened to him is unacceptable. It's not ok to destroy someone's things just because they are homeless. Help us show Drew that his community is here for him and that we care.<br /><br />All donations will go towards our goal of replacing everything that was thrown in the lake including: <br /><br />- clothing<br />- shoes<br />- food<br />- bedding<br />- other essential items. <br /><br />If we meet our goal, we'd also be able to get him a tent so he can sleep more peacefully and his belongings can be more protected. Mike is a 1973 Wallkill Senior High School graduate.  During High School Mike earned his letters in basketball and football while working at Blue Chip Farm.  After graduating he decided to join the Marines in 1974.  After surviving bootcamp in the brutal swamps of Paris Island South Carolina, he became a part of the military police and was stationed in Hawaii and Camp Pendleton in California.  After his 4 years were up he was hired by the LAPD and worked there for 5 years .  He then transferred to the Pleasanton Police Department in Northern California.  <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/29839360_15261589600_r.jpeg" alt="29839360_15261589600_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" />During his time there,  Mike earned his four-year degree.  Rising through the ranks becoming a sergeant,  he decided to become a motorcycle cop .  He retired in 2014 and soon afterwards he started contract work for the U.S.  Marshall  Service.   Mike was assigned a supervisor position at the San Francisco Courthouse where he worked until his accident.<br /><br />Mike was very involved in his church as a care Pastor.  He travel to Africa on a church mission and decided while he was there to stop eating.  The reason being, he wanted to try to understand the hunger experiences of children he was working with.  How could he help them if he didn't understand what it felt like to be hungry?   <br /><br />While not at work, Mike was an avid bicyclist.  He joined numerous long-distance bike-a-thon's and was training for one when he had his accident.  On September 18th 2016, two days before Mike's birthday, he set out on his bicycle to train for a 50-mile mountain ride.  As he was riding through an underdeveloped site, the road broke apart under his tire and threw him off his bike. He laid there for an estimated 20 to 30 minutes and he was unable to move any part of his body. Finally, someone stopped to help and he was transported to a Trauma Center. He had no feeling anywhere except for his face.<br /><br />He had difficulty breathing, tremendous trouble swallowing and could barely talk. Mike crushed is C4, C5, and C6 cervical nerves which required surgery, and Mike was diagnosed with an incomplete spinal cord injury and was quadriplegic. The news was devastating but Mike was determined, as he still is, to be able to do things again.<br /><br />His journey has been long and painful, physically, mentally and emotionally. Things we take for granted for him are a struggle. Scratching an itch, being able to hug, being alone. But every little Improvement is met with renewed optimism and Hope. Being able to swallow, feel when somebody touches his leg, being able to wiggle his hand, operating his own electric wheelchair. All the things we take for granted, for him, is a small victory.<br /><br />The next part of Mike's battle includes a monetary one. The cost Mike is facing due to his devastating injury are high. We have been blessed that the VA has taken such good care of him, but his stay there is coming to an end. The first huge task is finding a place for him to live.  He will need to live in a place that is totally retro fitted to accommodate his need, a wheelchair accessible shower, a machine to be able to lift him out of bed, ramps, and 24/7 healthcare to name a few. He will also need a van that has wheelchair lifts, ramps, and other adaptable driving equipment. He is facing hundreds of thousands of dollars in costs as insurance does not cover the majority of what he will need.<br /><br />The one silver lining, not only for Mike, but for our entire family, is seeing the tremendous outpouring of Love, support and Hope from everyone. It would be easy for somebody to give up, but Mike, well he does have his bad days, refuses to do that. His faith in God, his family and his friends has only been strengthened by this tragedy. We cannot thank you all enough, we are truly blessed.<br /><br />Your support will provide financial assistance to help Mike with his continuing Rehabilitation, 24/7 care,  medical equipment and aids to help him live as well as he can.

Hello! And thanks for stopping by. :)In 2015 I was diagnosed with stage one colon cancer. We decided to do surgery to remove the tumor and then discovered it was stage 3 "c" colon cancer. It had spread through the colon walls and spread to 17 lymph nodes. We removed 32 lymph nodes to be safe and I was told we would do chemo/radiation as a "bonus"...I ended up doing 8 rounds of radiation and 18 rounds of chemo. This January was my last session and one month after that I had a CT scan. Unfortunately the scan showed it could have possibly spread to my lungs and I would need a biopsy.On March 14th 2016 I received my results. My doctor told me I have stage 4 colon cancer and I was incurable. She said that now chemo would only buy me time,and she could no longer try and cure my cancer..... At 1st I was completely devastated. But that didn't last long. I am not done. I am not giving up. I have no time to cry or feel sorry for my self. That will not help anything. I am beating this for me and my son. I will be a success story for others and a positive voice to keep them going. I am setting up this go fund me to help cover second opinions costs, alternative treatments and existing medical bills totaling over $15,000 so far. Although I do believe I will beat this, i would also like to make some special memories with my seven year old son Park. He has been through so much these past 2 years and needs some mommy son time. This fund me will help also cover days of  work I have to miss since I am out of all paid time off. The reason I remain so positive is because of all your love, support and prayers!
