<div>Hello, my name is <a href="https://fionao.substack.com/p/about-me?sd=pf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fiona O'Rourke</a> a Professional Writer and Facilitator at the Irish Writers Centre and other literature organisations in Ireland.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Firstly we raised funds for Brick by Brick Let's Rebuild, as detailed in the original narrative below, in February 2025. Now, due to the extreme conditions that prevent rebuilding, we have re-focused to support the father of this family, and the medical costs to treat his life-threatening ❤️condition.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Many of the writing community signed up for the <strong>do the WRITE thing</strong> in person event in Dublin where we heard from two of the family members about their experiences in Gaza. Please help this campaign to support the family and join us if you can for the online writing session of <strong>do the WRITE thing</strong>.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Even if you can't attend, do consider donating to this worthy cause.

<div>February 2025
</div>
<div>The #BrickByBrick fundraiser is to support four members of the Sabah Family in Gaza to rebuild their destroyed family home and provide a shelter for twenty-six members of their wider family. When rebuilt, they wish to share this home with six branches of their family tree who all remain homeless due to their homes being bombed.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The "after" photos provided were taken on 1 Feb 2025. The "before" photos are from 2022. Thank you for taking the time to read on❤️
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My friend Ms Sabah from Gaza, who lives in Ireland, has not seen her mum, dad, sisters, and her brother since late 2022. Recent family news came that they'd returned to their city in Gaza to find the remains of their beloved homeplace in ruins. Every wall, floor, ceiling, and entire roof has been destroyed by Israeli bombing, as well as the destruction of the family’s belongings.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The family was expelled from their home place for over a year because of the Israeli occupation. They sheltered in a tent in the Almawasi area–a desolate place to the south of the Gaza Strip, always with the hope of one day returning to the house they had built.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>During their expulsion, they received news of other family members whose homes had been destroyed, leaving six branches of the family tree homeless. Their hopes became urgent, that they could one day return and rebuild, to gather the relatives and in-laws who survived the genocide, and shelter together.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The Sabah home was originally built after my friend’s father invested post-retirement savings from his UNRWA teaching post. UNRWA permits employees to access their retirement savings while actively working and he invested all of his funds, plus funds that he borrowed from banks, to provide a home for his immediate family.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Like many Palestinians, the Sabah family is determined to clear the debris in their ruined residence and rebuild a new home, not only for themselves but also for the other family members and in-laws who were made homeless by the occupation’s destruction of their houses. It will become a home for three surviving generations of the Sabah family, grandparents, aunties, uncles, in-laws, and children.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This rebuild will secure a roof over the heads of 11 children, 7 women, and 8 men. A long and challenging project, yes, but already four members of the family have made one room for living in. By covering the obliterated walls with a temporary material, they can sleep indoors. During a winter of bitter wind, rain, and cold, this is not ideal but for the Sabah family, it feels preferable to being forced to sleep in a tent far away from their rightful home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Construction prices have sky-rocketed for the surviving citizens of Gaza. Internet providers cannot sustain a definite reliable service, so even researching costs or ordering materials online is a daily challenge. Electricity being cut in the region poses another challenge, but the family are determined to re-establish their place in the community.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Each donation to this Brick by Brick fundraiser will support rebuilding costs and help the family find tradespeople for the work that they cannot manage themselves.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Some construction supplies have arrived in Gaza, and if the family can buy those, the next stage will be repairing holes in the walls as well as rebuilding brick by brick the walls that were wiped out.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>With Trump’s threats to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from their land, it has become even more vital to rebuild and ensure the family’s future. My friend’s father and family wish to stay no matter what Trump says; to have a home to return to, and for one family member in particular who needs medical treatment from trusted medical professionals, this is the only place for them to be.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If the family has nowhere to live, the alternative is to leave Gaza. The Sabah Family knows that to leave Gaza is to never return. To leave Gaza with no home to return to is to leave for life.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Please support the six branches of the Sabah family to build a home in a place where their hearts belong. Let's help them rebuild Brick by Brick, and please donate as little or as much as you can.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you for taking the time to read about the Sabah family, and please share this fundraiser with your family and friends❤️

<div>In the heart of Gaza, amidst the turmoil of conflict, lies the story of Mahmoud Al Masri, a 22-year-old whose life has been upended by the violence ravaging his homeland. Forced to flee his home in Beit Hanoun with his family of nine, Mahmoud now finds himself in dire circumstances, living in a cramped temporary tent, barely providing shelter from the unforgiving elements that rage outside amidst the chaos of war. It's within this fragile sanctuary that Mahmoud's plea for help echoes, a plea born out of desperation and a longing for safety amidst chaos. The situation is dire, and we need your urgent action to provide relief and support.
</div>
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/81830387_1722570992845169_r." width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mahmoud's journey is marked by resilience and determination, particularly in his pursuit of education. As a promising biomedical engineering student, Mahmoud dreamt of an opportunity-filled future. However, the brutality of war has shattered those dreams, leaving his aspirations hanging in the balance. His plight serves as a reminder of the countless young minds in Gaza whose hopes have been dashed by conflict, emphasizing the urgent need to rebuild educational opportunities amid war.
</div>
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/81830387_1722571010525_r." width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mahmoud's family faces daily challenges in their quest for survival, from scarcity of basic necessities to the threat of violence. His parents are the pillars of strength, protecting their children in a world torn apart by war. Mahmoud and his brothers, Ali (17), Muhammad (10), and Ahmed (9), are each a testament to the indomitable spirit of youth amid chaos. Their brotherhood is one forged in the fires of hardship and bound by a shared determination to overcome the odds stacked against them. The unwavering spirit of Mahmoud's sisters, Samah (19) and Jana (14), serves as a beacon of hope in the darkest of times. The innocence of Siham (5), the youngest of the family, provides a fleeting reprieve from the bleakness of their surroundings. The constant threat of violence makes every moment a struggle, particularly as they navigate the harsh realities of displacement. Still, Mahmoud and his family cling to hope for a better tomorrow, free from the specter of conflict.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Your generosity can make a tangible difference in the lives of the Al Masri family. By contributing to their evacuation fund, you can help cover the substantial costs of securing safe passage out of Gaza. Moreover, as inflation exacerbates the suffering of Gazans, your donation will be utilized toward the most basic necessities, like shelter, food, and water. The financial burden of evacuation is a staggering $5,000 for adults and $2,500 for children (not including the costs for visa/passport fees and temporary accommodation), which is a sum that far exceeds the means of Mahmoud and his family. With your support, we can alleviate the financial burden weighing heavily on Mahmoud and his family, providing them with the opportunity to escape the horrors of war and rebuild their lives in safety. Every donation, whatever the amount, brings the Al Masri family one step closer to safety and security. This campaign is more than just a call for financial assistance; it is a rallying cry for empathy and understanding in the face of unimaginable hardship.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mahmoud's story is one of many, yet it serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Join us as we stand in solidarity with Mahmoud and countless others like him, offering a beacon of hope in a world too often overshadowed by darkness.

<div>Hi everyone, I'm Sara Zadi ، I've made this account to rescue Saja and her family from Rafah out of Gaza.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Hello, I say it with all fatigue and exhaustion. I am Saja Saqallah from northern Gaza, where we were displaced more than 5 times, and we are currently in Rafah, south of Gaza, in a place that is not suitable for living. Here we are afraid of death every minute and of the hunger that follows us after death. Create that account to save my soul and the soul of my family to escape and travel from hell in Gaza to a safe area outside it.....

I was working in a press office before the beginning of this war, but the work office was soon destroyed, and my hopes were destroyed with it. Only the memory remained. I hope we can escape from the place of our displacement. From Rafah to Egypt because of the inevitable danger to our lives here, as I continue my dream and work in a safe environment without wars.
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/78408633_1711708451515305_r.jpeg" width="100%" />

He works in the manufacture of Eastern and Western sweets, as he is a cornerstone of the manufacture of sweets in our company specializing in the manufacture of sweets. <div>My brother Muhannad (younger brother). Muhannad is 15 years old and in the ninth grade of middle school . He is considered one of the kindest of my brothers because of his spontaneity and laugh that never leaves his face. Muhannad lost his education due to this ongoing war.

</div>
<div>My brother, Muhammad, is 22 years old. He is studying pharmacy in the fifth level (graduation year). He was about to graduate this year, but he did not graduate because of the war. He hopes to complete his university studies outside Gaza to achieve his dream and become a doctor of pharmacist.
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/78408633_171171373353449_r.jpeg" width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We displaced many times, the begging was on the night of 18th of October to the hospital after extreme bombing lasts for long hours after the coming of the Civil defense to remove us, in the next day we went to one of the relatives, but we haven't been safe our decision to go South of the Gaza strip (Khan Younis), but we also haven't been safe the severe continued shelling after the occupation decided to enter the city.
</div>
<div>We went on the next day to Rafah to the house of one of our friends, the last resort was suffering from difficult living conditions, where we were living more than family in one house.
</div>
<div>We have heard from one of our friends in north of Gaza that our home was destroyed, we shocked and we cried because our memories was also destroyed with our home .
</div>
<div>The occupation recently decided to invade Rafah and here we decide to leave Gaza in search of safety..
</div>
<div>Pictures of our house and the area where we live, where it was destroyed.
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/78408633_1711708530197745_r.jpeg" width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/78408633_1708535388670231_r.jpeg" width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We have been displaced several times to escape death. The last place they were displaced to was the city of Rafah, south of Gaza, in an uninhabitable house, whose area did not exceed 300 square metres, and where more than 6 families (50 individuals) lived. There is no place to rest, and I and my family can barely sleep in the corner of a room 7 meters wide and long (no electricity or water). A week later, in the house we moved to in Rafah, a car that was driving in front of it was bombed, and the windows of the room flew towards us, but thanks to God, none of us were injured as a result of that bombing.
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/78408633_1708535332547050_r.jpeg" width="100%" />

<div><br />
</div>
<div>As you know, in these times we are exposed to bombing, death and hunger every minute in Rafah. We do not want to lose each other from the real danger here. We have dreams, we have aspirations, and we have a life that we want to continue without death or harm. We are innocent of everything that is happening here. We want to travel and escape from Rafah as quickly as possible. We do not want to die or for any of us to die. Do not leave us struggling with all this. Save us before it is too late. ..
</div>
<div><br />

<div>Every donation or participation from you is a soul saver,

<div>Update: I'm in desperate need of formula for my two month old baby girl. She needs a can of formula and diapers every week and we need a new tent to stay dry this cold winter.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>‏Hello, I am Mohammed Al-Nairab, I am 30 years old, I live in the Gaza Strip, specifically in Rafah Governorate. I am married and I have a beautiful family, brothers and sisters. I had a life full of fun, I had a barbershop. I was a brilliant barber and I earned my own house and my family money which I’m trying to make enough in addition to being a worker in selling vegetables.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I had dreams that have not been fulfilled yet, and my life was simple and there were no problems.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But that ominous day came (7 October) that turned all the scales around. I didn’t expect that I would arrive to the point of <strong>asking for money from anyone. My life has become difficult. There is not enough money to support my family.</strong>
</div>
<div>The war began to take everything, from horror, fear, bombing and destruction, then a day came on 11/5, which increased the unhappiness. Stages that left my house, my family house and my work behind me, and my family escaped the bombing that was above us, and now <strong>I live in a tent without any of the components of normal life. No food, no clean water, fear of the sounds of pounding and hungry dogs, my tent is torn and I don’t receive any help from anyone. I’m not alone. All my people live this injustice.</strong>
</div>
<div>I didn’t expect a day to reach a stage to ask someone for money because of my bad living!
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>So please help me and my family by donating to me so that I can wake up my remaining life from death and poor living.
</div>
<div>Donate to me even a little, it’s a big difference to me.
</div>
<div>This is not my life that I wished for, but the thing has become my duty to live.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you for your support
</div>

Please help Mohammed and his family survive this winter

<div><strong>Hi everyone! Please read this as if I am a family member or a close friend to you, who is living under death!</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>It's Nada Almadhoun</strong>, from Gaza, Palestine. I am a final year medical student from Alazhar University. And, I am doing this fundraiser in order to evacuate from Gaza urgently!
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>By October 7th, my world had been shattered</strong>. Missiles rained down on my city, forcing me to flee my home with my family. We sought refuge in a school in Khanyounis converted into a homeless shelter, where we endured harsh conditions for 3 months. We lacked basic necessities – clean water, electricity, and even enough food.
</div>
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/79310387_1712412579364280_r.jpeg" width="100%" />
<div><em>This is the school shelter I was living in.</em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Through this tough period of time, I suffered from chronic depression that never left me free. Thus, I started volunteering at various hospitals in my refugee camp. I have volunteered at Nasser medical complex, Emergency department for more than 2 months.
</div>
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/79310387_1712412890195646_r.jpeg" width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/79310387_1712413130979161_r.jpeg" width="100%" />
<div><em>This is me while volunteeting at Nasser medical complex.</em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>However, I stopped volunteering there. As we were trapped between military tanks in Khanyounis, and we were forced to go to Rafah without even holding our possesities! We lived in a tent, homeless in the street. Then I started volunteering at Aldaàwa medical point to serve people living in tents.
