<div>The Bluetits Chill Swimmers group began in September 2014 by its founder, Sian Richardson, to share her love of cold-water dipping, before officially becoming a Social Enterprise in 2020 to further support the ever-growing community. A core value of The Bluetits is ‘Challenging our limits, together’, and that looks different to everybody. Whether that’s joining in on your first swim, or taking part in one of their events, The Bluetit community is here to support and encourage everyone.

<div>On 12th June 2024, the Bluetit 1 Channel Relay Team challenged their own limits together by completing their own relay Channel crossing. The dedication they all put into this journey, and the exhilaration they felt afterwards, inspired The Bluetits to help facilitate other Bluetits to achieve this same goal. So, the Bluetit 2 Channel Relay Team 2025 was born! This wonderful team will be attempting to cross the Channel, supported and facilitated by The Bluetits. As part of this, each team member will be fundraising to cover their own costs for this adventure, totalling £2,450. Anything raised above this is generously being donated by them to The Bluetits to go back into the community.

<div>As for me, I swim because it's the only way I can actually exercise. I have had Fibromyalgia and Arthritis for the past 15 years, and my mobility is poor. But when I'm in the water, it's like all of that is gone again, and I'm pain free. 
</div>
<div>Swimming is very much my lifeline in that sense. 
</div>
<div>I became a Bluetit when I started The Ballyronan Bluetits in October 2020. I had been following other groups on Social Media, and of course, the fabulous Sian, and was very much inspired to find and build my own community here in N.Ireland. 
</div>
<div>I want to swim the channel, because there was a time when I really thought my life was just Over, but the last 4 years with the Bluetits has taught me that I can do anything. This body that I hated, and had given up on, can still do hard things... they just need to be in Water! 
</div>
<div>The Bluetits is such an amazing organisation,  and they have given so very many people another chance at life. I am just delighted to be raising funds to help it continue on doing so, hopefully for a very long time to come.

Bluetits 2 Channel Relay Team

<div>Hi, I'm Makala, a keen open water swimmer who around 5 years ago found the Bluetits and lost my wetsuit, I could never have imagined on that first swim how much my life was going to change, and when I say changed I don't mean a little.
</div>

<div>I suffered from depression and anxiety for many years, when I turned 48 I decided it was time to change things and took up training for triathlons and ultra running, it was a massive help more than I could have hoped for.
</div>

</div>
<div>In October 2018 a Facebook post led me to the Bluetits and was hooked from my first swim - I had a clear head, no thought of anything other than......wow it's cold, breathe breathe....a quiet mind is not something I could ever remember having, I just knew was going to help me heal.
</div>

<div>5 years of being a Bluetit has helped me in so many ways it has given me the confidence to see a counsellor, and to change my path.
</div>

<div>With the support and investment from Bluetits HQ I became an open water swim coach, a Bluetit Swim Walk Guide and I support and encourage 20 other Bluetit swim coaches. This would never have happened if I hadn't taken that first plunge.

<div>On July 9th 2023 I will be taking on the English Channel swim, 21 miles of me and the sea, a massive mental and physical challenge.
</div>

<div>Sea safety is part of my job now and with an ever-growing community it's something important to The Bluetits and we would love to make water safety training available to volunteers across the organisation.
</div>

<div>Training costs the organisation around £300 per volunteer so I've set myself the target of raising enough to train 21 volunteers, that's one for every mile of the English Channel.
</div>

<div>You'll see in the information that some of the Bluetit Flocks have decided to join my fundraising team and set up their own 'Channel Challenge' each thinking of fun ways to clock up the 21 miles in their own groups.

Makala Swims the English Channel

On the 14th May at 5pm we will start a 24 hour fitness challenge at RE:Academy in Magherafelt. <br /><br />Every hour a new workout will begin and we’ll be inviting members of our gym &amp; the public to take part in <font color="#333333"><br /><br />We’re raising money for a </font>defibrillator unit &amp; outside storage box so it can be used by anyone within the Magherafelt area incase of emergency!<font color="#333333">❤️<br /><br />We know the difference having a defibrillator unit can make within the community.
