Bill is creating this fundraiser for <strong>Tony, a coworker</strong> who is facing an incredibly difficult recovery. On 7-31-26, Tony’s spinal cord was attacked by an infection, and he had to undergo emergency spinal surgery. After surgery, Tony lost all feeling and movement in his lower body. <br />The doctors have said there's a very slim chance that after twelve months of intense rehab that Tony will ever walk again.  The rehab will hopefully result in some form of mobility, what that is though is unclear, it just won't be walking.
<br /><br />Tony has begun intensive rehab and is starting to get some slight movement back in the legs, which is an encouraging sign. Even so, the road ahead is long, with several months of rehab still to come. Tony’s sick time runs out on 10/6/26, and without short- or long-term disability, Tony will soon be facing these challenges out of pocket.

 The funds raised will help cover <strong>medical bills, rehab costs, and living expenses</strong> while Tony focuses on healing and recovery. Anyone who knows Tony knows this is someone who has spent the last 38years showing up for others. Tony has been involved in several fundraisers to help coworkers in need and is also involved with an organization that helps families in need. <br />Now Tony is the one who needs support. <div>Nakia has been suffering for years from severe asthma attacks. In 2023, he had five hospital visits due to not being able to breathe. He refused to miss work at Jaja as a wood fired seafood chef because his medications became very expensive. Although breathing in the smoke everyday was slowly ruining his lungs. At the beginning on 2024, after another hospital visit, he suffered from acute pneumonia, which turned into a sickness they would have never imagined. On March 6th, 2024, Nakia fell extremely ill into the night and asked his girlfriend Cassandra to be taken to the hospital. He was having chest pain, couldn't talk, move his body, or catch his breath. Immediately after entering the emergency room, he passed out with only 10% oxygen left in his body. Nakia was transported by a critical care team to another hospital and was placed on a ventilator for 8 days in the Coronary Care ICU. He then spent 5 days in a recovery unit doing physical and occupational therapy. It took him a month to gain the strength to stand or walk again, and required medical assistance within their home. Nakia had to resign from Jaja due to doctor's orders and was out of work for 2 months total.

<div>This all took a huge toll on them both financially and mentally.

<div>Nakia always resorted to his motorcycle for cheap transportation and a serotonin boost. Once he was able and regained his strength, he took his motorcycle for short rides around the cul-de-sac just to feel happiness and freedom, until he was able to go on full rides again.

<div>On Tuesday, August 13th, his bike was stolen from an Ohio City parking lot while he was at work for Truss Event Catering. It might not be much to some but this small motorcycle was his most prized possession, and it took a lot of hard work and determination for him to get. He made the mistake of not having a full comprehensive policy, so theft wasn’t covered. Due to still drowning from medical bills, he doesn't have much money for extra activities, but he knew that he could throw 1 or 2 dollars in the motorcycle gas tank and have an outdoor adventure. This has truly broken their hearts that people did this and chose to steal away his and Cassandra's happiness after already having gone through so much. They used to go for long rides to beaches and parks every weekend, and enjoyed riding through neighborhoods to admire the beautiful houses throughout Lakewood and Cleveland. It will be a while before he is able to purchase another Navi.
