<div>My name is Sara Marks, and I am writing on behalf of my childhood friend, <strong>Sandy Olevsky</strong>. Sandy and I grew up together in the Mayfair Park area of Chicago. We met in kindergarten and remained friends all these years. Our friendship has gotten us through the awkward teen years, the search for independence in college, the quest for the perfect relationship, and the drive to find fulfillment in careers. I have been a CPS teacher for almost 40 years, and Sandy has been a respiratory therapist at Lurie’s Children’s Hospital for more than 30 years. <div>Six months ago, Sandy fell ill and suffered a life-threatening emergency; a kidney stone sparked a bacterial infection in her bloodstream that later attached to the base of her spine and has stricken her ability to walk and function like she did before. She has been in and out of the hospital with various complications due to the infection. Her first attempt at rehab left her weaker and her spirit broken because the care was far from healing.

<div>Sandy was able to go home to her life partner of 28 years, Mary Kosa, on June 19th and continue her recovery. She was getting stronger and more hopeful that she would recover with spinal surgery. The surgery is currently on hold again due to the infection returning and causing more havoc on her system. She was hospitalized again on 9/26/2024 and was recently released to a skilled nursing facility in Glenview, IL, to receive another round of intravenous antibiotics and physical therapy.

<div>This facility is much nicer and equipped to address her needs, but due to the limits of her private insurance, she will not be able to stay more than 10 days. This leaves the burden of her care on her partner Mary, who is spread thin trying to maintain a full-time job as a clinical supervisor for foster care and keeping up with the expenses that were once covered by two full-time salaries. As you can imagine, Sandy and Mary are not just dealing with a catastrophic illness, but they are facing mounting medical bills due to out-of-network care for private ambulances, specialists, doctors, and rehab. <strong>They need help.</strong> I am asking for your help to raise money to assist with her care. She needs assistance to pay for transportation to and from appointments, physical and occupational therapy, and skilled nursing care to help with her IV treatments, oxygen, and home health care if she is discharged from rehab.

<div>Cancer... what a vicious beast. Years ago it had ransacked our father. He fought as hard and as best as he could. After a short period which felt like an eternity, he passed away.
</div>

<div>Our brave, strong, and charismatic mother soldiered on. Her tenacity to begin anew and determination to achieve happiness again, led her to North Carolina. In her time there, she formed many friendships with people who became like family.
</div>

<div>In 2020, she moved to the Chicagoland area to be close to us. She has always been a phone call away, but having her in close proximity has been such a blessing. Not only is she there for her family, she is there for every person she comes in contact with. At all times she is available to give love, support, and words of encouragement. She is lovingly referred to by many as "Mama Kay."

<div>A few months ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. A bilateral mastectomy is scheduled in order to secure that the cancer does not spread further. This is a serious procedure that will require months of recovery.

<div>She is a recipient of Medicare which will cover 80% of her medical expenses. For that, we are very grateful. However, the remaining balance of this costly surgery, care received, and work missed, is going to be quite financially detrimental to our family.

<div>This unexpected situation is scary, and has opened old wounds from the loss of our father. Cancer is terrifying, but we have banded together and are determined to beat it.

<div>Many of us received the devastating news that our beloved Jonnie Angel was tragically killed on Saturday November 04, 2023, a victim of senseless violence. Jonnie was a devoted single mother to Jeremy, 14, and McKayla, 10, and a loving caretaker for her Mom. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family without complaint. She was a kind, caring, humble, loving, family member (mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin), a friend to many, a dedicated worker, a provider for those in need, and an amazing human being all round. She faced many battles head on; she was a warrior that never gave up. Through her positive presence and servant attitude she shone God's light into so many peoples lives without even knowing it! Although He called her home earlier than we can understand, she was able to touch so many lives. Her love will live on in our hearts and through her children. Rest in Peace.

<div>My sister and best friend, Becky, was murdered in her home on February 23, 2023. She was just 41 years old. Despite the circumstances of her death, she is remembered for the life she cherished—a life of compassion, generosity, faith, and fierce love for her family.

Look no further if you want to know what service looks like: He’s the son of a CPD Detective and an ER nurse, the second of seven children, and honorably served as a soldier in the United States Army. Danny joined the Chicago Police Department as a third-generation Chicago Police Officer and is on the Gang Unit. Four of his brothers served in the United States Army Infantry, from Afghanistan to Africa, Alaska, and Eastern Europe. His youngest brother enlisted in the US Army and is set to leave this summer. Three of his brothers also protect this city as Chicago Firefighters.

<div>Tragically Dan's life would change forever by the actions of criminals. While out with friends and family, he did what all good cops would do and tried to break up a fight by separating the men and saving further harm for all involved. The event was over when one of the offenders ran to his car, pulled a gun out, and fired 20 rounds at the group as they walked away.  His younger brother was struck in the leg, receiving a graze wound. Sadly, another bullet struck Dan in the back and severed Dan’s spinal cord, missing his heart by millimeters, resulting in him being permanently paralyzed from the waist down. This devastating, life-altering event has forever changed the course of his life.  All those who have known Dan are grieving after such a senseless, tragic event. We are asking the community to support Dan and his fiancé Casey to help with all the financial demands they will face in the coming years.  Let them know help is on the way and donate to his cause. Two of their six children, Oliver 'Ollie' (2 months old) and Addi (5 years old), have been diagnosed with <strong>Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD)</strong>, a highly progressive and rare genetic brain disease, which is fatal. <br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/53221756_1610813549821843_r.jpeg" alt="53221756_1610813549821843_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" />However, since little Ollie is so young &amp; still asymptomatic, we have an <strong>incredible chance</strong> to <strong>save his life, if we act quickly.</strong>  He has been accepted into a gene therapy treatment program at one of the world’s best hospitals in Milan. This program will require Ollie to be hospitalized on and off for 5 months, so the Raspberry family needs money for he and his mother to cover travel, lodging and medical bills - which will be around $500,000. The treatment is very involved and requires multiple hospital visits, a surgery for his central line, chemotherapy, an MRI, nerve conductivity test, all the evaluations and follow up visits.  <br /><br />The thought of my sister leaving the rest of her family for 5 months is devastating, but it is the <strong>BEST</strong> hope she has for Ollie. Her daughter’s diagnosis came too late, so the disease has progressed too far for any treatments to help. Addi has already lost the ability to walk, stand, sit, move, eat, speak, and has lost head and neck control. She struggles frequently with respiratory distress, often being hospitalized for respiratory failure. My sister wants to give her son this amazing treatment opportunity that her daughter tragically never had. <br /><br />It is a mother’s worst nightmare for her child to be diagnosed with a fatal disease. And the thought of losing <strong>TWO</strong> children to the same fatal disease is just unbearable. <p>Hello all , my name is Rigardo "Rick" Prewitt. I am the founder of the Universal Picklers Pickleball Group  of Chicago Illinois.  We take pride in promoting the activity of pickleball as a wellness intervention that connects communities and generations . We service individuals and communities primarily in the metropolitan Chicago area and surrounding suburbs.  Our services which range from basic instruction upto Pickleball Wellness Programming are open to all and generally free of charge.

<p>Our group specializes in Tri Generation Pickleball which involves ages  3 - 90 and also Juniors level pickleball ages 6 - 19.  Our growth and progression has been phenomenal.  Universal Picklers Junior pickleball program was started at Chicago Public Schools  Morgan Park High School in the summer of 2019 . Two years later we present as proud recipients of an invitation to participate  in the 2021 AAU International Junior Olympics in Houston Texas August 3 - 6 2021 . This is the inaugural year for AAU IJOC pickleball and we consider it an honor to represent  the United States  ,Illinois and Chicago.  We need YOU to make it there.. U P Chicago Phoenix  Internation Junior Olympics

My brother, John Craig Hickey, was walking his little 14 yr old dog Alice....an ordinary day in his ordinary life. Until he was assaulted by a homeless man...serial offender &amp; well known to local police. He pepper sprayed the assailant But the guy came charging back knocked him down, kicked the dog up in the air and she landed on the concrete on her head and died. Judge Marcus Naylor released The assailant after one day in jail. There are no words to describe such an unspeakable tragedy. I would really like to help him get out of Seattle! <br />He lives in low income housing in Pioneer Square &amp; this is not the first time he's been assaulted in the past 2.5 yrs.  Although he's grateful to have a roof over his head this particular building is in a very dangerous area overrun with homeless camps &amp; terribly mismanaged by a private company.....donations, grants, &amp; king county money pour in but no improvements are made! I am starting this at the request of my sister Jackie Moore who is the great grandmother of this precious baby boy. These are her words.<br /><br />Owen is the son of Valerie Mitchell and <br />Brian Buell. He has two brothers: Elliott, age 7, and Bentley, age 4.<br /><br />Owen is 17 months young. Born on August 10, 2018<br /><br />Owen has neuroblastoma that has affected other parts of his body. He was treated by a local pediatrician for the past several months. When Valerie took him to the doctor she never ordered any tests that could have caught this earlier. She treated him for viruses, then the flu, then viruses and then the flu again. Between these bouts during a bad episode Valerie took him to the ER. They treated him for stomach flu and sent him home. He would get a little better but not completely. Finally on Sunday he began screaming with pain and would not stop crying. His right eye was drooping and he had what appeared to be a black eye. His abdomen was enlarged to almost twice its size and he couldn’t eat or drink. Valerie took him to a newer hospital affiliated with Northwestern. When they got to the ER, they immediately recognized the telltale signs of his problem, which was the black and drooping eye. They did scans, ultrasounds and found a huge mass in his abdomen. After they got the results of the blood and urine tests they diagnosed him as having neuroblastoma and immediately got him transferred to Luries Childrens Hospital-Northwestern. From the time he got there, they continually ran all kinds of tests and lab work. He has undergone many painful tests and biopsies. Every time they do a test, they find more bad news. He was dehydrated when he got to the hospital and unable to have bowel movements. Once they started doing tests, they found a tumor behind his right eye and confirmed the huge mass in his abdomen; a spot on his liver. They did surgery today and did a bone marrow biopsy and biopsies of the affected organs. <br /><br />Owen was a 10 pound baby. He was a happy baby, he loves llamas and the baby shark song. He loves to dance. He is very affectionate and loves everybody. With two older brothers he joined in the rough and tumble play as boys and brothers do. He is a mimic; everything they did he tried to do. He loves their pool and the trampoline.<br /><br />Brian is a great dad. He worked two jobs to make sure Valerie could be home with the boys. Valerie is a beautiful Mom, she is so loving and good with the kids. They have very little and struggle to live from month to month but they are happy and proud to be on their own two feet even if things have been tight. You could not find two better parents. They teach the kids, play with them and their home is filled with love and happiness. They made sure their kids knew about caring for others by teaching them to be kind. They showed them responsibility by making sure they had a dog and fish. <br /><br />They were struggling on their shoestring budget but Brian isn’t able to be at his part time job and also be at the hospital with Valetie and Owen, so he had to put this job on hold. He got a short leave of absence from his full time job at half pay. They live modestly and this loss of income is devastating for them. They have no credit cards, they pay as they go. They have a family van which they share. They drive to Chicago to the Childrens hospital and keeping the gas tank full and parking in downtown Chicago at the hospital parking garage is $15 a day. <br /><br />This family needs help. They have a support network of family and friends to help but there is so much more they are going to be facing.<br /><br />Can you please find it in your heart to help?
