<div>Für Straßenhunde ist das Leben nicht leicht, soviel ist bekannt. Die Bedingungen für Straßenhunde in Rumänien kann man jedoch mit einiger Berechtigung etwas deutlicher als elendig bis grausam bezeichnen. In nahezu allen Regionen des Landes sollen Straßenhunde aus dem Stadtbild verschwinden. Sie werden von Hundefängern auf häufig brutalste Art und Weise gefangen und in sog. Public Shelter gebracht, in denen die Hunde mehr oder weniger sich selbst überlassen werden. Jede Woche sterben in diesen Lagern landesweit Tausende von Hunden an Unterernährung oder in Folge von Beißereien. In vielen Landesteilen gehört die inzwischen legalisierte Massentötung von gesunden Hunden zum Alltag, wobei auch vor Hundewelpen und trächtigen Hündinnen nicht Halt gemacht wird.

<div>Die Tierschutzvereine Pfotenhilfe ohne Grenzen e.V., Tierseelenrettung e.V., Casa Katharina e.V. und Safe Rescue for Dogs haben sich zusammengeschlossen, um sich im Sinne nachhaltigen Tierschutzes für diese Hunde einzusetzen. In Kooperation mit 3 TierschützerInnen vor Ort ist in der Stadt Botosani ein erster Schritt in die richtige Richtung gelungen. Der Bürgermeister der Stadt konnte überzeugt werden, das Töten der Tiere zu unterlassen, sofern deren Versorgung mit Futter und ihre Vermittlung auf End und- Pflegestellen organisiert und finanziert wird. Mittlerweile werden rund 900 Hunde von den Tierschützer im Shelter versorgt.

<div>Ein wichtiger Teil der Arbeit vor Ort sind auch Kastrationen, denn ungewollte Welpen, landen am Ende im Public Shelter. Leider werden die Hunde, die oft im Hof an Ketten gehalten werden, von Streunern gedeckt und die Welpen dann oft wie Abfall entsorgt oder sich selbst überlassen. Nur Kastrationen können diesen Kreislauf stoppen.

<div>Eine Tierärztin des Public Shelters in Botosani konnte auf ehrenamtlicher Basis für diese Arbeit gewonnen werden. Dennoch sind Kastrationen mit Kosten für Verbrauchsmaterialien verbunden.

<div>Für die Finanzierung des Futters sowie der Kastrationen sind wir auf Deine Hilfe angewiesen. Außerdem wollen wir unseren Einsatz nach Möglichkeit natürlich ausweiten, um möglichst viele Straßenhunde vor ihrem traurigen Schicksal zu bewahren. Wir befürchten zudem, dass ein Scheitern unserer Kampagne von der gegnerischen Seite als Argument gegen zukünftige Tierschutzinitiativen missbraucht wird. Bitte helft uns ein starkes Zeichen für das Tierrecht zu setzen und einen Präzedenzfall für eine Alternative zum grausamen Weg der rumänischen Behörden zu schaffen. Mit euch können wir noch viele Hunde retten!

<div>Life is not easy for street dogs, that much is obvious. However, the conditions for street dogs in Romania can be described more clearly as miserable or even cruel. Street dogs are unwanted and are supposed to disappear from the cityscape in almost all regions of the country. They are caught by dog catchers in often brutal ways and taken to so-called public shelters, where the dogs are more or less left to fend for themselves. Every week, thousands of dogs die in these camps across the country from malnutrition or as a result of biting. In many parts of the country, the now legalized mass killing of healthy dogs is part of everyday life, although puppies and pregnant dogs are not spared.

<div>The animal welfare associations Pfotenhilfe ohne Grenzen e.V., Tierseelenrettung e.V., Casa Katharina e.V. and Safe Rescue for Dogs have joined forces to advocate for these dogs in the spirit of sustainable animal protection. In cooperation with 3 local animal rights activists, a first step in the right direction has been taken in the city of Botosani. The mayor of the city was persuaded to stop killing the animals as long as their provision with food and their placement in final and foster homes was organized and financed. Around 900 dogs are now being cared for by animal rights activists in the shelter.

<div>An important part of the work on site is also castrations, because unwanted puppies end up in the public shelter. Unfortunately, the dogs, which are often kept chained in the yard, are having puppies by stray dogs which are then often disposed of like trash or left to fend for themselves. Only castration can stop this cycle.
</div>
<div>A veterinarian from the public shelter in Botosani was recruited for this work on a voluntary basis. However, castrations are associated with costs for consumables.
</div>
<div>We depend on your help to finance the food and castrations. We also want to expand our efforts wherever possible to save as many street dogs as possible from their sad fate. We also fear that the failure of our campaign will be used by the opposing side as an argument against future animal protection initiatives. Please help us send a strong message for animal rights and set a precedent for an alternative to the cruel approach of the Romanian authorities. With you we can save many more dogs!
