<div>Just a month ago, our world was turned upside down when my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. He's always been the strongest person I know-full of life, energy, and love for staying active. He lives for his morning jogs, weekend soccer games, and the simple joy of moving his body. Now, this devastating diagnosis is taking that away from him.

<div>Winter has hit J&amp;D's Farm sanctuary hard and fast; this is our first winter on the farm and the first time hosting all of our wonderful residents.

<div>We are appealing to the community to help us keep our residents warm and safe with dry clean bedding, warm and full bellies, and jumpers for the little lambies.

<div>The number of residents here are creeping up quite steadily; so far this winter we have already rescued four orphaned lambs, a down ewe and her twins (mum could not get up to feed her babies), a mini goat with contracted tendons and a bush goat who only just escaped her fate. We have also welcomed a new little hen, Kinsey the duck; another two piggies are coming this weekend, the lads (ponies) Joseph and Harley hanging out next door (tempoparily), and Stella the mini horse who will join us in a few weeks.

<div>The cost of care, shelter, warmth, feed, and keeping everyone safe is rising and we are hoping our loving community can help ease the burden a little this chilly winter!
</div>
<ul>
<li>A $10 donation will help purchase a bale of straw or hay - currently we are going through about ten bales of straw each week to make sure all the animals have warm bedding, and about one bale of grass hay a week for feed for the goats and sheep.
</li>
<li>A $20 donation will provide the pigs with enough oats for their brekky for a whole week - they love this treat and the variety of food they receive.
</li>
<li>A $30 donation will purchase a bag of piggy pellets or Laucke sow (finer version of the pellets); combined they are currently going through two bags of each per week, and that is before the other two piggies arrive!
</li>
<li>A $30 donation also covers the cost of fresh fruit and vegetables each week (we are also getting some decent scraps from local supermarkets).
</li>
<li>A $60 donation will provide enough chicken feed for a week. 
</li>
<li>An $80 donation will ensure all the animals are kept warm with bedding for a week.
</li>
<li>A $170 donation will feed all the piggies for a week!
</li>

<div>These costs are on top of the other needs the sanctuary residents have such as vet care, Esmay's leg care, vaccinations, worming, and farrier costs - so every little bit really helps and we appreciate everyone's support so much! xx

Winter Appeal!

<p>We’re making this GoFundMe today for gorgeous <strong><em>Amelia Ilaria Nesci aged 3</em></strong> and her amazing parents <em>Nadia Cali and Anthony Nesci. </em>

<p>This Tuesday the 25th of May 2021, life was normal, life was good. Little did we know their world would come crashing down that afternoon.
</p>

<p>Amelia was suffering from a very long 2 hour blood nose and fainted. After countless months of her parents taking her to doctors, specialists, naturopaths and paediatricians this was the final straw and she was rushed to the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne.
</p>

<p>Upon their arrival a blood sample was taken and it was discovered that she had only 39 white blood cells in her body. Amelia was given immediately a blood transfusion and hooked up to an IV for antibiotics and fluids. Amelia was admitted to the Kookaburra Ward at RCH Melbourne. From here on the bad news continued to come. Both Nadia and Anthony were completely beside themselves and in disbelief that this was happening to their little girl.

<p>Thursday 27th May, little Amelia underwent general anaesthetic to collect bone marrow biopsies, take a fluid spinal sample and check a million other things. She was physically exhausted and lifeless. Her parents have shown unbelievable strength during this time.
</p>

<p>Thursday evening the doctors confirmed and diagnosed Amelia with <strong>Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. </strong>This is the most common type of childhood cancer that is of the bone marrow. Your bone marrow is a factory which makes blood cells. The doctors are aiming for a cure.

<p>The doctors have come up with a treatment plan based on a risk assessment. This includes, being under the age of 10, a white blood cell count less than 50,000, spinal tap result of negative, in a week they will know genetic testing results and most important her reaction to treatment.

<p>Not even a week in, today, Friday the 28th May, Amelia begins her induction of treatment that includes:
</p>

<ul>
<li>Chemotherapy intensive
</li>

<li>Panadol every 6 hours
</li>

<li>Acid level medicine every 6 hours
</li>

<li>Antibiotics every 4 hours
</li>

<li>Will continue to receive treatment every Tuesday and Friday for a prolonged period
</li>

</ul>

<p>Side effects for Amelia will be thinning of the hair of the next month, then she will lose her hair completely, a ravenous appetite, sore stomach pains, severe headaches, muscle fatigue in her legs, fever, nausea, vomiting and mood swings. This is a lot for one little 3 year old to deal with.

<p>As you can imagine life has turned completely upside down in an instant for this gorgeous family. Nadia and Anthony have 3 other children, Massimo, Aaliyah and Marcello to also provide love and care too. The children are extremely worried and concerned for their baby sister.

<p>Nadia and Anthony are now facing a long 2 year battle or more of going between the Royal Childrens Hospital, the Ronald McDonald house and other doctor appointments. They are travelling back and forth from their Sunshine home to Parkville daily. Medical expenses, travel expenses, food, parking, taking time off work to be by their daughter’s side and rotating shifts between caring for their other children.......it’s adding up for them and <em>FAST!!!</em>
