Support Glenda's road to recovery

<div>Hello to all. My name is Rick and I am fundraising for my dearest pal, Carolyn, who recently underwent major surgery to save her life from an neuroendocrine tumour named Matilda. Matilda was successfully removed thanks to a brilliant surgical team. Carolyn needed some serious work once the tumour was out, including reconstruction of most of her vascular network which had been destroyed by Matilda. Along comes Bob, vein-donor. Dearly deceased Bob provided Carolyn with the vital network of veins that pump blood to all of her vital organs, especially the liver. After 20 hours of surgery, Matilda was out, and life post-Matilda began.

<div>As much as the funds donated by you were lovingly collected and distributed to our pal, life post-surgery has not been a cake walk. Carolyn has had to undergo several return visits to the hospital, as her body learns how to perform regular functions. For instance, her body was not producing enough protein in the blood called Albumin, and had to receive some in hospital. The hospital system itself is under major strain. Carolyn has had to sit in the emergency room for up to 10 hours in order to receive a basic prescription which she should have had at home.

<div>Aside from the costs of the drugs she has to take, her business is being impacted in that she has to make regular cancelations. As loyal as Carolyn's clients are, she is not able to build her business back to where it once was, and she needs ongoing support. She also needs to replace her wardrobe with clothing that fits. She has lost over half of her body weight, and this is a difficult adjustment to make.

<div>Asking for more money seems a bit audacious, but the last campaign was so successful, some of us felt it was necessary to ask again. If you can spare some cash, a little bit will go a long way to have Carolyn back at full strength. Life post-Matilda

<div>UPDATE 7/7/24: After several interviews and applying for jobs all month, I still have not secured a full time job. I am grateful to have a part time job, but it does not pay my bills. I am able to pay my rent and utilities for the next month, but not the following month. I am asking for another month of support so I can continue applying for jobs and find a full-time gig. It's my birthday month, and I really just want to be able to meet my basic needs and enjoy my solar return. Thank you &lt;3

I'm a part of various communities and have been for quite some time. Much of that time was spent being a barista for my day job, along with other part time gigs.

<div><strong>After being wrongfully fired from a transphobic job in December, I sought full-time employment over the next few months since I couldn't qualify for unemployment due to being fired</strong>. While I did receive a refund from unemployment after my repayment was forgiven, I got an $8,000 refund from the state was enough for me to live on until March, I got a full-time job at Heard Coffee. Of course, that money ran out, because I am living in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

<div>On Friday May 17th, I got a call from my manager that the entire company would be shutting down due to slow business. Initially, I thought I would qualify for unemployment, only to learn that the state only considers work from your base year, meaning the job I got fired from. After applying, I was given a preliminary estimate of $371/week, which is something, but is not enough to pay for my most basic necessities, and know I will be denied due to getting fired from my job in my base year. I could petition the state to tell them I was wrongly fired, which would take upwards of a year, and be retraumatizing and likely fruitless. So, I'm retracting my claim and asking for help.

Support Nelle after recent job loss

<div>Hello, my name is Rick and I am fundraising for a very special friend who is preparing for major cancer surgery. Carolyn Giroux has been diagnosed with a rare type of Pancreatic Cancer, and has a neuroendocrine tumour, lovingly nick-named <strong>Matilda</strong>. This tumour doesn't respond to chemotherapy so surgery is the only option and is curative. The surgery will take between 16-24 hours, with more time added to repair vascular systems that the tumour has invaded. It is a highly technical and complex surgery requiring an extensive recovery time. Because of the seriousness of this surgery, she can only receive a date when the hospital's full resources are available to her. She is expecting to get a date within the first two weeks of January, and will be in the hospital for at least ten days. Her recovery time will be 6-8 weeks.

<div>This puts Carolyn out of commission for almost four months. During this time, she will need plenty of rest and support from her community. Because she has been ill battling the effects of this cancer, she's had to take many days off work to deal with multiple appointments and with surgery looming in the future she hasn't been able to expand her client base, leaving her in a shortfall. At this time, she mainly needs money to pay her bills. Money will be used for rent, monthly expenses, food, prescriptions and clothing. She has lost a significant amount of weight and is expected to lose more as her digestive system learns to function properly without Matilda jamming things up. The money will also provide a bit of a buffer for when she does return to work allowing her to return slowly and rebuild her business. Any funds raised above the target will go towards a<strong> F*CK Cancer Matilda is Dead </strong>celebration, towards any contingency, and possibly towards a vacation fund.

Tobaron's Surgery and recovery fundraiser

2 weeks ago my 13 year old ‍⬛ Junior/Junie stopped feeding and other symptoms I realized my companion during the pandemic and life saver during my health issues was dying. On April 5, Junior was euthanized to spare her more pain. My heart is grieving now; in Junior’s memory I am requesting donations towards Janie’s end of life care at this time. Thankful for any support.

With heavy hearts we are sad to share that Ralph Freeman passed away suddenly on 12/28/19 at 7:00pm .  He had spent several days celebrating the Christmas Holiday with family and friends in Asheville, NC.   Because Ralph had no life insurance, the family is now responsible for his cremation/burial and could use help with those unexpected  expenses.  Every small amount helps and the family is so very grateful for your assistance.  Any amount raised over the actual expenses will be donated to the American Heart Association in his honor.  Thank you for keeping Ralph and his family in your thoughts and prayers.  Hug those close to you and be sure to tell them how much they are loved.   Blessings to all and thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers, and support.

<br />I'm a 32 year old post op trans woman living in Toronto. Despite three years of hormones and extensive facial hair removal, I am frequently misgendered in public and am often endangered/harassed in public. I can sometimes "pass" in photographs, but in everyday life and from different angles, I am usually read as male. I have intense gender dysphoria which makes it difficult for me to navigate the world and live a decent life when I am frequently targeted by other people because I'm a visible trans woman. I've struggled to find supportive/safe employment because of misgendering as well as accessing basic public institutions like transit or medical care.<br /><br />I have been trying to safe enough money to pay for facial feminization surgeries to help me be safer in public and improve my mental health, but they are very expensive and not covered by insurance/provincial healthcare. I don't have family that I could rely on for funding and I already have significant debt from  paying for facial and body hair removal, hormones, and a previous trans related surgery. While I'm still trying to cover some of the costs myself, I would appreciate any help in meeting my goals. The average costs of facial feminization surgery in Canada is roughly 15k to 20k, so any support would help me meet my goals.  I want to go to a surgeon in Montreal (close to where I live) who specializes in facial feminization surgery. <br /><br />For me, the goal of facial feminization surgery is to lessen my dysphoria and be able to safely/comfortably participate in public life without being harassed/misgendered/assaulted. The daily burden of being afraid and worrying that people will target me/misgender me and the extreme distress that it causes me has a significant impact on my ability to live my life. Being able to have this surgery would make a huge difference in my life. All I want is to not be afraid  in public and to live my life as myself.

As many people are aware, several Toronto communities have been rocked by the discovery of a serial killer targeting the gay community early this year. While legal proceedings and internal police reviews continue, the families of the victims are struggling to piece together their lives in the aftermath of this tragedy. <br /><br />In addition to the great emotional toll, there are family expenses to consider in these difficult times - burials, funerals, family accommodation, and mental health assistance. Please read the full story below, contribute if you're able, but most importantly share this with family, friends, and community members so that victims' families may know they have support to get through this difficult time.<br /><br />January 2018 started with the shocking discovery that Toronto had a serial killer who targeted gay men. The alleged killer - Bruce Mc Arthur.  <br />Andrew Kinsman, a loving and caring activist who went missing in 2017, was the first man to be found. His friends and family actively searched for him and kept the pressure on police to find him. The news of him being found was released in January of 2018 and Bruce Mc Arthur was accused of his murder.  <br /><br />Shortly after, remains of other men who were reported missing as far back as 2010 were found and identified. All but two were of South Asian and Middle Eastern descent - Abdul Basir Faizi, Skandaraj Navaratnam, Majeed Kayan, Soroush Mahmudi, Selim Esan, and Kirushnakumar Kanagaratnam. Dean Lisowick was the other victim. The identities of these eight individuals were confirmed in July 2018.<br /><br />Over the last few months, I have been in touch with the families and asked if they were in need of community and financial support. Some families are now running single parent households, some had to travel from Sri Lanka and from countries in the Middle East to claim the bodies of their loved ones, and some are struggling with mental health conditions as a result of media reports surrounding their traumatic losses. As we approach the fall and coming new year with McArthur on trial and the external independent reviews looking at how police handled the cases of missing people (including the missing men listed above) - these families will continue to struggle until they get the entire truth of what happened to their loved ones.  <br /><br />During our conversations, the families indicated that they were struggling to pay for costs associated with funeral planning, mental health services, and accommodations for relatives who would remain in Toronto until the trials are over.<br /><br />I have been very outspoken since January on how racism, homophobia, and classism are large factors in the delay in finding the mostly racialized men professionally and personally. Unfortunately, due to legalities, the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention cannot initiate a fundraiser for the grieving families. ASAAP’s Board of Directors has graciously granted me permission to conduct this fundraiser as a personal initiative to show support for the families. <a href="http://asaap.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/ASAAP-Statement-for-Fundraiser-FINAL-SJ.pdf">Click</a>  here  for link to the statement.<br /><br />The money raised will be divided equally among the six families. Out of respect for privacy their names are withheld, but they have been identified by the Toronto Police Service as next of kin for all victims. A lawyer will be engaged to disburse the funds and I will ensure that the disbursement process is transparent.  The lawyer is offering their services for free.<br /><br />The fundraiser will run for one month from September.12.2018 to November.12.2018.<br /><br />I have been a part of this journey on a professional level in public, and on a personal level in private. As a gay Tamil man, I was deeply affected when I found out that one of the men who was missing for eight years was a Tamil from Sri Lanka. I empathize with these families and have experienced firsthand what it’s like to grow up in a single parent household, living in social housing. When my father passed away, my mother had to put food on the table with what little she had after having to pay for funeral costs. <br /><br />I am asking for your support to help alleviate some of the financial burdens of these families as they deal with grief and loss, and their own trauma due to the unfathomable circumstances surrounding the deaths of their loved ones. Your generosity and support will be tremendously appreciated.

The Toronto Overdose Prevention Society fund will support Overdose Action Toronto and its efforts to draw attention to the escalating overdose epidemic that is killing our beloved Torontonians. Overdose Action Toronto consists of key stakeholders in harm reduction including people who use drugs, peers, frontline harm reduction workers and advocates. This fund will also support direct actions aimed at increasing awareness among citizens of Toronto about the preventable nature of overdose deaths.<br /><br />This fund also will support work of the Toronto Harm Reduction Alliance and Toronto Harm Reduction Worker's Union, as well as Overdose Action Toronto.

<strong>Help Jessica achieve her Tokyo 2020 goal!</strong> Your much-needed donations will go towards transporting Jessica (and her guide, Lauren Babineau) to racing events and paying for race fees, training, coaching and related equipment needed heading into the Tokyo Paralympics 2020.<br /><br />Jessica Tuomela is a 33-year-old former Canadian Paralympic swimmer from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. She is also a registered massage therapist, violin-player, proud dog-owner and avid athlete!<br /><br />Jessica has been an inspiration to us all, since day 1. <strong>Despite the trauma of being fully blinded by retinoblastoma at age 3</strong>, Jessica has never shied away from any challenges that come her way. Quite the opposite. She has always pushed herself to be the best she can be – and she has achieved incredible things as a result. <br /><br /><strong>Becoming a three-time Paralympian is just one of Jessica’s many accomplishments</strong>. During her 8 years of swimming for team Canada, Jessica raced in countries all over the world. Her impressive career highlights include:<br />· Winning a silver medal in women’s 50 m freestyle at the <strong>2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, Australia.</strong><br />· Placing 4th in 50 m freestyle at the <strong>2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece.</strong><br />· Winning 2 gold medals in the 100 m breaststroke and 100 m backstroke and 2 silver medals in the 50 and 100 m freestyle at the <strong>2007 Parapan Ams in Rio, Brazil.</strong><br />· Setting 5 Canadian swimming records.<br /><br />Equally inspiring, however, is what Jessica has been able to accomplish outside of the pool. With a lot of hard work and dedication, <strong>she became a registered massage therapist and completed her master’s degree in social work.</strong> With Jessica's continued passion for competitive sport she pursued the opportunity to race in a triathlon and i<strong>n July of 2016, she raced her first triathlon – posting (unsurprisingly) a fast open water swim time.</strong><br /><br /><strong>Now, Jessica has a new goal. Competing in the 2020 Paralympic Games as a triathlete!</strong> The 2020 Paralympic Games is a lofty dream, but she has joined forces with powerhouse Lauren Babineau as her guide. Jessica's Journey to Tokyo 2020 

On December 20, 2014 our worlds shattered at the core as we were told that the daughter I was carrying had what they suspected was a fatal heart defect.  It was our 21 week ultrasound appointment, Molly was with us and, moments earlier in my OB office, we had selected May 7th as her c-section delivery date.  Taking great care to make sure it was far enough apart from Molly’s May 1 birthday so we could mitigate any sibling rivalry.  Nothing could have ever prepared us for the moments, hours, days that would come.<br /><br />Due to the fact that the holidays were in full swing, we had a hard time getting an appointment with the Pediatric cardiac specialists.  I called my OB everyday, 3 times a day, asking for updates. Imagine what it’s like to be told that a 2 ton truck is coming to run you over, you see it, but there is nothing you can seem to do get it to change its course.  That’s what the days between Dec. 20 – Jan. 5 were like.  Finally, we were told about that a specialist was available to see us – January 5, 11am.<br /><br />I prayed that morning.  To be honest, I had been praying since December 20th.   Praying to my Dad, to God, to anyone who would listen. But on the morning of January 5, I prayed in a different way.  I prayed for guidance, I prayed for strength and I prayed for me to be able to survive.<br /><br />After the echocardiogram was done, the specialist walked us into a separate consultation room, similar to the room they took us into on Dec. 20.  (Side note: If anyone every asks me to ‘please step into the consultation room’ again, you will simply see the dust of me running as fast as possible in the opposite direction. Nothing good happens in those rooms.)  In that room we were told that there was no hope.  That our little girl had a serious, heart defect – the words, “non-compatible with life” came up several times.  We knew as we left that appointment that we would soon be delivering our angel. The days that followed were filled with numbness, anger, utter and complete heart break.<br /><br />January 8, I was admitted into the hospital.  I was assigned nurses that I can only describe as angels on earth and I was surrounded by compassion, love, and understanding.  My OB, who I adore in so many ways, was on call that evening, providing some sense of familiarity in what was the most unfamiliar environment.  My husband, who I love more than I could ever imagine possible, held my hand at every step and together we walked down the path of grief as we prepared to meet, and say goodbye to, our daughter.<br /><br />There were many horrific moments but none that shocked me more than the delivery.  I delivered my daughter, naturally, on Friday, January 9, 2015 and it was peaceful, spiritual.  A fellow Mom who suffered a loss said in one of my group sessions, “I gave birth to death”.   It’s true, I did, and it will be something I hold dear and treasure for the rest of my life.  We were able to hold her, to kiss her, to dress her and read her stories.  We were able to tell her how much she meant to us.<br /><br />Our dauther,  Olive Harper Allinson, was stillborn January 9, 2015.  We have tremendous joy that she is a part of our lives, and our family, and she mattered to us.<br /><br />We have two daughters. One here on earth and one in heaven.  I’m a Mom of an angel, the greatest tragedy and the greatest honour.  Molly is a big sister, except she is gifted with a little sister who is her guardian angel.<br /><br />We have chosen to share our story because Olive mattered. Through Olive’s story, and in her name, we can make a difference.  <br /><br />The Olive Harper Foundation is our newly founded non-profit charity that will raise funds for a variety of pediatric causes through ongoing gift donations and an annual fundraising gala. This year, the charities are Emily's House, Gabriel's Gift and Sick Kid's Cardiac Research.  <br /><br />Allowing Olive's name to live on is what means the most to us and we are forever grateful for any and all donations.

<p>Revolutionary black trans woman CeCe McDonald has inspired many people with not only her survival from a racist, transphobic, and misogynistic hate crime and her criminalization for that survival, but also how she has emerged from that experience as a brilliant and passionate advocate. Now out of prison since January, CeCe is in a very precarious financial situation and is practically homeless. She needs the community's support and love to help her gain some financial stability so that she can thrive and do her incredible activism. For example, CeCe currently does not own a computer and her phone was recently temporarily disconnected because she couldn't pay the bill. I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois where I have faced lots of discrimination and violence. I moved to Minnesota to (try) to change my life and further my transition. I have been living here now for 7+ years and have turned my life completely around. In June of 2011, some friends and I were face with a verbal and physical altercation with a group of white, cis/hetero people who used very homo/transphobic and racially charged language that led to a group melee that led to the death of one of my attackers in me defending myself. I was charged with 2nd degree murder, which I later took a plea for 2nd degree manslaughter and received 41 months in prison. The incident brought attention to the ongoing denial and unacknowledgment of violence/hate crimes toward those of the GLBTQI community, especially African American (trans) women."<br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="http://3b4efb995be6c5c64252-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.r12.cf1.rackcdn.com/2315799_1412631032.4049_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br /><br /><br /></p>

<p><b>In August 2013 </b>Rae Spoon will be releasing their next album <i><b>MY PRAIRIE HOME. </b></i>They want to press the album on vinyl and are trying to cover the cost of pressing/printing/mastering through pre-sales of their next album.  The album is the sound track for the upcoming NFB Documentary/Musical about Rae growing up queer in Alberta.  There are nineteen songs/ instrumental tracks on the album that range from folk to indie rock to grunge.<br></p>
