Khloe started her nonprofit when she was just NINE years old, I had the chance to interview her about it. Fast forward 9 more years she's now 18, graduated from high school just the other week, and is off to college in the fall. I'm lucky to have the chance to team up for good together before she's off to her next fabulous phase of life where she'll no doubt continue inspiring everyone she meets along the way.

Kelsea's 36th Birthday—Help me Grow Presents with Purpose!

<div>Eight years ago, a tick bite changed Angel’s life.

<div>While she never saw the tick, she discovered a strange rash on her leg after going for a walk and a week later fell ill. She was later diagnosed with Lyme disease. Since then, she’s suffered crippling fatigue, brain fog, chronic pain, and unexplained seizures among other issues she’s still trying to diagnose. She’s been to the ER countless times. She’s had to drastically cut her hours at her work-from-home job. She’s drained her savings on more than one occasion paying medical bills and just trying to survive and feed herself.

<div>A few months ago Angel’s mother died suddenly of a rare and aggressive cancer only six weeks after being diagnosed. Bereaved, it left a huge hole in her life and with almost no financial support. Shortly before that, a long term relationship ended unexpectedly and her partner moved out. He was gracious enough to let her return to his old apartment, but a sudden rent hike of $1,600 / month means he’s now letting it go and she has to leave in only five days.

<div>At the time of this writing, Angel has nowhere to go. Life with a chronic illness is hell enough, but being faced with homelessness on top of that is untenable. In addition she has a companion, Edith, a sweet ragdoll cat, which complicates things further.

<div>I’m raising money for food, shelter, pet supplies and medical expenses until Angel has a permanent solution for her and her cat. Angel has food stamps but it’s not adequate to cover a month’s supply of food.
</div>

</div>
<div>As someone who is also chronically ill, I cannot fathom dealing with an illness like Angel’s while facing homelessness and separation from a pet… not to mention the stress and pain of losing a parent in the thick of it. We talk regularly, and I’m in awe of her mental resilience during the onslaught of “one thing after another” she’s endured the last year. I know nothing would make her happier than returning to life as a healthier, independent woman - to go back working full time, continue with makeup artistry, film photography and her other creative pursuits. But she can’t get there without our help.

Facing Homelessness While Chronically Ill

<div>Hi everyone! Last week, the day before Nick and I were to leave for a wedding trip, we had to take Ella to the ER after she spent the whole day throwing up. After an ultrasound and bloodwork, we were told Ella had an intestinal blockage and would need to be sent to a second ER vet for immediate surgery. Anyone who knows Ella and me knows the years of doctors/specialists, medications, and countless tears we have endured. After everything we've been through, Ella has been the biggest trooper and sweetest patient, but this was hard to watch her go through. With her age and the toll her body has already been through, we have never seen her so un-Ella-like. We got lucky, though. The second ER brought her into surgery, opened her up and realized that thanks to the meds and fluids they put her on, the blockage had moved naturally, and no further surgery was needed. This was music to our ears, as recovery would be easy, and Ella would return to her old, sweet, grumpy self soon!

<div>Initially, we were quoted over $8000 for surgery and in-house recovery. Thankfully, because they didn't have to cut into the intestine, the cost was cut down by a few thousand dollars. But $4,800 is still a lot to spend in one day when it is not in your budget.

<div>It was never an idea if we would spend the money on Eloise. But it has been a conversation on how. So here we are, asking our community for a little help. Anything helps, even if it's a share on Instagram or Facebook. We are incredibly humbled and appreciative.

<div>When the war broke out in Ukraine, my wife Sarah and I could not stand by without helping, so we decided to take a <strong>Ukrainian LGBT family</strong> under our wing: <strong>Denys and Valerii, a married gay couple, their 14-year-old son, and Denys’ cousin Natasha</strong>.

<div>Their story is like any other you've read about Ukrainian refugees. Coming from <strong>Dnipro </strong>and <strong>Zaporizhzhia </strong>(the site of the infamous nuclear plant), they all ended up living in Kyiv, where you could work hard and lead a decent life. When Russia invaded Ukraine, Natasha was visiting her clients back in her hometown of Dnipro. Train tickets back to Kyiv were almost instantly gone, so<strong> Denys, Valerii, and their son jumped into a car and drove 10 hours to pick her up themselves. With one suitcase each, they made their way to the Polish border. </strong>The influx of refugees made it hard to process them timely through the customs, so all four ended up spending a sleepless night at the border in freezing temperatures without food and practically any water.

<div>When Joe Biden announced a <strong>Uniting For Ukraine (U4U)</strong> program, many religious people started sponsoring refugees from Ukraine and bringing them to the US. Being an <strong>LGBT family</strong> (their female cousin is also queer), their chances of securing a<strong> sponsor were not high</strong>. In fact, nobody besides us reached out to them in the Facebook U4U group where sponsors connect with refugees. Being a queer Russian immigrant, I had to get involved, and with Sarah's full support, we became their sponsors.

<div>The family was finally able to arrive in Los Angeles on August 27th. We applied for their benefits, work permits, and SSNs right away. But it can take them anywhere from six to twelve weeks to get their work authorizations, if not longer.

Help a Ukrainian LGBT Family Start a New Life

<div>Meet Larry. Larry is a gentle, pure, and kind-hearted 76-year-old man. He spent his life and earned his living by running the concrete company he owned for almost 35 years. Larry has lived in his home since 1989 and never planned to move. The photo above was a picture I took after I ran to the ATM for cash to make a purchase at the moving sale he held to sell all of his belongings. I saw it as a good representation of the hard work and independence he has carried throughout his life. But you're probably wondering where I fit into this story, so allow me to explain...

<div>Hi, my name is Cody Rankin, a Licensed Realtor with Keller Williams Chervenic Realty. I received a phone call in my office on July 21st, 2022. This was when I spoke with Larry for the first time, and he explained that he was looking for an agent to help him sell his home due to him being involved in a scam. We set up a time for me to stop in at his home to talk with him about the selling process. When I arrived, we walked the property, and I asked him more about his situation. That's when I started to understand the severity of his heartbreaking situation that took place for over the past year.
</div>

</div>
<div>At some point in 2021, Larry had received a phone call from a man who claimed to be with "National Awards and Promotions" in Las Vegas. They told him that large companies like Walmart, AARP, Visa, Walgreens, etc... donate to them annually for a tax write-off that they will then give away as prizes. Larry is a man of a different generation and doesn't use the internet, and when I asked if he had an email, he said, "Oh yes, I have an email... But I don't know how to open it.". They told him they had been trying to reach him for two years about his winnings and that he had won their annual giveaway of around $900,000 back in 2019. He mentioned that he thought it was too good to be true and didn't do anything about it at first. Then he said they were constantly calling him back and telling him more about it to make it more believable, and he eventually bought into it and sent a check around $5000 to claim his price. The phone calls happened nearly every morning, and they were not the phone calls I had expected to hear about; these were phone calls Larry says were always about 10-15 minutes long, asking about his day, how the weather was in Ohio, telling him they were working on getting him his winnings, etc... These were just conversations to build trust and rapport with Larry so that he’d start to believe everything they told him.
</div>

</div>
<div>Eventually, the second of the scammers came into the equation, as the bank that "National Awards and Promotions" works with. He told Larry that his winnings from 2019 had been earning interest and his prize increased to around $1,400,000. They kept pushing off "sending his prize" because every time something with his prize would change, they had to redo legal paperwork to allow him to receive the winnings. Over time they would request more and more money from Larry to file the changes so that he could collect his prize. All while saying things to him like "Larry, were going to make you a rich man!" and reassuring him with "Larry, we understand you're upset because you haven't received your prize, but we are doing everything we can. We are here to help you get your money.".
</div>

</div>
<div>Then came along the third of the scammers. This one supposedly worked for a legal team that worked alongside "National Awards and Promotions" and their bank. This guy told Larry he was there to get him his money and that they had also entered a lawsuit with the companies who would pay them annually for the giveaways due to not receiving their funds. He told Larry that they had won the lawsuit and were being paid out a total of $50,000,000, and Larry would receive $16,000,000 of it. The only catch was that he'd have to send them a check for $156,000 to claim his payout. By this point, Larry, unfortunately (maybe fortunately) had no money left. Larry told me he wouldn’t have sent the money even if he had it because he was so fed up with waiting for this so-called prize he was supposed to receive over two years prior.
</div>

</div>
<div>At the end of the day, Larry had been taken for all his savings, two annuities, a line of credit, potentially his home he’s owned for nearly three and a half decades, and most definitely an enjoyment of the last years to come in his life. The dollar amount lost in this period was slightly over a quarter million dollars. Surprisingly enough, Larry can still crack a joke and still show off his smile to anyone he feels deserves to see it. He mentioned to me that if he sold his home for the value he needed, he’d be able to move into a trailer park and budget his money to allow him to live until he’s 80 years old because, in his words, “I don’t think I’ll live that long.”

<div>I sat with him for six hours one day, helping him with his moving sale that I advertised on Facebook so we could generate some traffic and help him get the most money out of his belongings. During those six hours, I got the opportunity to get to know him, learn about his life, and hear about his love for his home. Larry is truly a great man, and I’ve changed my goal from selling his home, to helping him keep it. My position as a Realtor is so much more to me than just a commission check, it gives me the ability to help people make significant changes in their lives, and I want to do everything I can to make a positive change in Larry’s life.
</div>

<div>Join me to allow Larry the chance to stay in his home until hopefully they can come to some resolution in their investigation of this scam. The goal will allow him to make ends meet for the next couple of years of his life and allow him to stay in his beloved home in the meantime. <div>Things have never been as tough as they have been recently.  We were just scraping by during the covid pandemic then the evil opportunists during the George Floyd protests looted the store and left him with virtually nothing.  My dad persevered though.  His customers were glad to have him back.  Then someone violently robbed the store.

<div>First he pistol-whipped him.  Then he stomped his head when my father tried to get up.  Then finally beat him in the head 28 times with two of those blows thrown with a deadly hammer.

<div>My Father was gravely injured.  He was critically ill in the ICU after suffering from an internal head bleed and severe concussion. He spent 4 days there before heading to a rehabilitation facility.   He is relearning how to do the most basic things like walk, read, and talk.  My father is 68 and his “American Dream” has come to a crashing halt.

<div>There has been no media coverage of this crime despite its horrific nature. With so much violence against Asians lately I struggle to understand why no one seems to care.

<div>Thankfully, the suspect is now in custody with a $130,000 bond. He has a long criminal history but the charges against him are weak. The robbery could have been a stick-up alone, but I believe the hate / anger filled in this person led to the many unnecessary blows to my dad’s head. We want justice and to get this violent man off the streets before he hurts someone else.

<div>He was bred for more breeding in a puppy mill in China, then discarded when his frail little body was of no use. He was purchased off a dog meat truck headed to slaughter. He and 8 other dogs we rescued. In China he was diagnosed with chronic starvation, malnutrition, anemia, had trouble walking from muscle atrophy and weakness from being crated. He was vulnerable but they did not deem his unable to fly to Canada. However, the 20+ grueling journey to freedom did have an impact on him. He arrived weak and had trouble breathing. We rushed him to the ER where he began receiving oxygen, antibiotics, and nutrition through a feeding tube. He was stable but not improved for days, and then something went wrong and he crashed. He had to be intubated. He is currently on a ventilator to allow his lungs a chance to function better so that we can wean him off the oxygen and see if he can survive.

<div>I know these are drastic life saving measures. I understand the cost and effort involved. And you may ask WHY … why go to such great lengths to save this one little dog?

<div>Because I do not want him to die without knowing love. He has never known kindness or care or love. He has come a long way to experience it, he has survived China, he survived the flight, I cannot in good conscience quit on him now when he has made it this far. He deserves the CHANCE. Lifesaving medical technology exists to be used, to save lives. Lives like Finnegan’s. So I am here to ask you to help me save his life. Help me give him a chance to experience love. Some say the value of a life is how much LOVE that life gives to others. I am sure Finnegan has a lot of love to give us. If he just gets this chance.

Friends and family have created this page to help finance a service dog for Alexandria Collins.<br /><br />Alexandria is 24 yrs old and has experienced prolonged periods of physical, sexual and emotional abuse that have significantly impacted her ability to function and engage in daily life. Alexandria has been diagnosed with <strong>debilitating Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD)</strong>, Major Depressive Disorder, and OCD. These disorders result in severe dissociation creating unsafe driving conditions, inability to answer the door, panic attacks, persistent and near constant flashbacks, chronic nightmares, hyper vigilance, and constant fear.<br /><br />Alexandria is currently seeing a therapist specializing in PTSD, OCD, and depression, and has been taking medication, but that alone isn't enough anymore. Alexandria has been battling these struggles with mental illness, including three suicide attempts, <strong>the most recent severe enough to place her in ICU on a ventilator.</strong><br /><br />Alexandria continues to pursue her education and plans to take her experiences and use them to help others in similar situations using a combination of neuroscience and psychology to provide holistic care. She is currently employed as a behavior therapist <strong>working with children with autism</strong>.<br /><br />Alexandria's psychiatrist has prescribed a service animal that would be trained to perform many tasks during her day to day life. Some examples of these tasks include: medication reminders, providing reassurance during panic and anxiety attacks, waking up owner during nightmares, and leading owner home during dissociative episodes. This dog would help Alexandria with her fear surrounding work situations and allow her to remain calm and focused while working with special needs children as well as to <strong>regain independence and find joy in life again</strong>.<br /><br />Service dogs are generally expensive <strong>costing upwards of $30,000</strong>. She is currently applying for a service dog through Mountain High Service Dogs (MHSD). MHSD requires $1,500 for the initial deposit and $14,000 when the dog is placed with Alexandria. She has encountered overwhelming medical bills and ongoing therapy and medication costs making the purchase of a service dog financially impossible. Unfortunately insurance doesn't cover the cost of a service animal. Individuals with disabilities are expected to pay for service animal costs out of pocket.<br /><br /><strong>**Extra funding will go towards vet fees, food and supplies, as well as service fees.</strong><br /><br />We love Alexandria with all of our hearts and wish we could provide the money for this dog for her, but we need your help. Any amount that you would be willing to donate would mean the world to our family. C-PTSD & Rehabilitation Service Dog for Alexandria

Hello friends-<br /><br />For those lucky enough to live in town &amp; have attended the Ship John party last night you know that Portland Country Underground sounds sweet as ever, that Mike's attention to his craft is still meticulous &amp; masterful, &amp; that a great time was had by many.  What you probably don't know is that after everybody left, there was an attempted robbery &amp;, when Mike refused to surrender his cash, a violent assault on his person that resulted in multiple surgeries and an overnight stay in the Legacy Emanuel ICU.  <br /><br />Mike of course is tough as old boots, but this is a trying time for him and his family.  We're not sure yet as to the extent of his medical costs but they are sure to be formidable...  Please consider throwing a few bucks into the hat as he has done for many others and would surely do for you, &amp; share this page freely.  <br /><br />His immediate family is understandably shaken from this ordeal so we'd ask that, at first, you tread lightly until everyone has a chance to get their bearings.  There will be much that can be done to help in the coming weeks (plus surely a benefit show or three), so please keep Mike, Amanda, &amp; Weston in your hearts going forward.  <br /><br />True to form &amp; in spite of everything I might add that the thieves were unsuccessful in taking Mike's money.  Love to all.
