Aid for my family in Gaza

<div>I am Lina and I am 19 years old. I am a high school graduate and had beautiful dreams for my family and I. My dream was to study in medical school and my dad's dream for me was to become a doctor. I have many dreams with my family but in Gaza dreams die before they come to reality.

<div>I woke up on the morning of October 7 to war and being terrified. We left our home in Gaza due to the severe Israeli bombardment. Our beautiful home holds our wonderful memories with my family. We miraculously left Gaza and were displaced to my grandfather's place in the Maghazi camp.

<div>One day, a house in the area was targeted, causing a huge explosion, so my father decided for us to flee for the second time. We left my grandfather’s house in intense fear and headed to an UNRWA shelter in Khan Younis with the hope that we would find safety.

<div>We faced many issues at the beginning in Khan Younis. There was no place to stay in a tent, but with patience we found a place but it did not exceed more than 4 meters. Our tent was set up from pieces of wood which did not protect us from the severe cold weather however we adapted despite the lack of food and lack of warmth from the cold winter nights. Having my father by my side made everything easier for me and I felt safer with him there. We lived in our tent for more than a month and a half.

<div>Until 1/24/2024, when the Israeli Occupation Forces surrounded the area with tanks and bulldozers. My father was praying in our tent and then sat with us and suddenly was sniped in the back. We tried saving my father's life but were not successful. That was the last time I saw my father's beautiful face and we could not find a place to bury him so we had to bury him on the side of the road.

<div>We were displaced for a third time, this time without my father, to Deir Al Balah. My siblings and I are still grieving my father's loss and dealing with the struggles of war. I wish I could live in this world with peace and safety and return to my beautiful home with my family and resume life.

<div>Every time I close my eyes at night, I see my father. There will come a day when I realize my father and I's dream of studying in medical school.

There is no evidence to substantiate this claim. Further, police claim that my son left the scene on foot. It turns out that he was just trying to get to my house for safety -- which was only a few blocks away from where the incident happened. My baby was just trying to make it home to be safe in my arms. Tyre was unarmed, nonthreatening, and respectful to police during the entire encounter!

His cousin who saw him in the hospital, swollen and disfigured, like “he was a scary monster.”

I don’t want us burning up our cities, and tearing up the streets because that’s not what my son stood for.

<div>Hello, my name is Benjamin Kim and I want to introduce you all to my five year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi Shantotto! She turned 5 years old this January, and we hope to ring in many more. She's my wife's emotional support dog, our little furbaby, and sister to our cat Y'shtola. Her presence in our lives is larger than life. Shantoots adores running in an open dog park chasing her ball and bringing it back to anyone who would throw it for her. She's learned to enjoy fetch in the water as well, even though she prefers land a bit more haha. At home she's either the best cuddle/snuggle buddy you could ever ask for or the life of the party. She keeps herself diligently patrolling the front window incase anyone dares step on her sidewalk. Nothing makes her happier than playing fetch and being able to just run free and strong.

<div>What brings this little story here is some rear knee injuries began to progress quickly over the past month and a half. At the beginning we saw her avoid the couch, stand at the base of the stairstep for 10 minutes trying to work up the strength/nerve to try going up them. She began to run less, move/be awake less, increased aggression and 'bunny hopping'. After an x-ray and exam from the vet Shantotto was diagnosed with an affusion (partially torn ACL) in her rear left knee and both knees has osteoarthritis. We brought her home and set the house up so she didn't have to jump up, and began her on her anti-inflammatories. These showed improvement and progress for about a week until the pain symptoms started showing again this time worse. She became incredibly lame and would slip just walking let alone running. Another vet visit and x-ray later she was recommended to an orthopedic surgeon to fix the ACL tear as it's progressed to being a near full tear. This, is where I come here to ask for all of your support and help. The surgery and aftercare costs totaled to 6 grand.

<strong>PLEASE READ MOST RECENT UPDATE AT END OF STORY! <br /><br />We have lost the home we've lived in for our entire lives. 2 Days Ago, police knocked on our door and told us that our house has been sold. Now we have until July 6th to find a place to live.</strong><br /><br /><strong>My family is a family of 2, consisting of a younger sibling (Dave, 24) who is autistic and his older sister (Eola, 25) who is physically disabled, left alone to take care of the 2 by herself after our father passed away last year.</strong><br /><br />Our father left the house to our older brother, who does not care for us due to the fact that he doesn't like our mother. The house being in his name, he sold it, without even telling either of us.<br /><br />My father was 80 years old when he passed. A black man, an amazing father, and a hard worker. He ran away from a farm where he picked cotton as a sharecropper since he was old enough to pick cotton with his hands to Florida where he worked hard, years and years to pay off this house and secure his family to have something, even if it wasn't much, when he would eventually pass.<br /><br />We did not receive any money when my father passed away, we did not receive anything and all we had was a roof to stand under, with this house.<br /><br />We have been struggling and struggling every single day to just survive, there have been days and WEEKS where we have starved with no money and no food and no way of getting either. All of which, our older brother who has betrayed us now, ignored.<br /><br />He's taken any money he's gotten from selling the house for himself and has not even considered trying to help us at all.<br /><br />And now we have been told that we no longer have a home. We need money to secure a move to somewhere safe and the funds to be able to live until we can get ourselves stable (deposits if we can by some miracle find a place, and a few months rent) so we don't end up on the streets.<br /><br />Even a few bucks could help, things have been so hard and we just want to have hope. We are a family of black Latino immigrants, and a racist burned our car by pretending he was a mechanic. He fried everything on purpose, and as a result it's nothing but junk now. nothing can be done to fix it. It can only be sold for scrap.<br /><br />I'm the only one who's able to support my family in this pandemic because my parents are jobless, and now a racist has taken that from us. On Monday September 28, 2020, we lost our dearest Jaleel Harris at the age of 17. My name is Aly Grunder, and everything I do in life is tied to trying to make the world a more positive, happier, and safer place. Even within my dreams of being one of the youngest filmmakers in the film industry, social activism, etc, those principles remain to be my primary drive. In the end, I just want to help my family so they can continue living a comfortable life.<br /><br />Beside me and those principles is a woman who has worked extremely hard to get where she is. My mother and I are quite similar; the drive to help people and change things for the better. She became a nurse at a young age upon witnessing disgusting mistreatment of patients within the medical field. She wanted to be that change. On top of that, on her own, she has taken me and my sisters and raised us well, and set an example of greatness to strive for. <br /><br />And still. From time to time, we struggle. For the longest time, my mother has been the strongest support for our immediate family. She has worked for too long--30+ long years of physical, mental, and emotional strain. Over time as I grew up, I began to notice some of the physical problems that my mother began developing. And now it has escalated to this. She has developed a slipped/bulging disc at the base of her spine due to a herniation along with arthritis. <br /><br />In 2018, she was given a shot that would only temporarily quell the swelling of the herniation, along with undergoing a laminectomy procedure(cover photo is a photo of my mother after the successful procedure). However, as of recent, she is unable stand for extended periods of time without the lower half of her body going completely numb; rendering her being unable to walk at all, and since has been not working at all since April 2020. This is quite concerning as my younger sister, who recently turned 16, is still in school and still needs support as she graduates and eventually heads to college. Unfortunately, my mother will be needing another surgery, specifically Lumbar Spinal Fusion surgery; and even then, she won't be able to work for another 6 months after the procedure, which is scheduled a week or so from now.<br /><br />The GoFundMe goal is a rough estimation of a single-level posterior lumbar fusion and any other hospital bills that might be applicable as we haven't gotten an official quote on how much it will be; not including that my mom will most likely be getting a double/two-level fusion. Also known as “Yaya” &amp; the “BBQ man”.<br /><br />David McAtee was killed this morning in Louisville, Kentucky. <br /><br />He was a black restaurant owner in the community who was fatally shot by authorities around midnight on June 1st. As of 10:45 AM, his body was still lying in the streets. <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/48462156_1591054540202314_r.jpeg" alt="48462156_1591054540202314_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />The National Guard had been deployed in Kentucky surrounding the protests, yet McAtee's death occurred at 26th and Broadway.... far far away from any of the protesting.  <br /><br />Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear had called on law enforcement to release the body cam footage of the shooting... but of course, their body cams were turned OFF. We should be absolutely horrified by this man's death and also by the fact that his body was left in the street for 12 hours after the shooting. <br /><br />There is no goal to reach and there is no dollar amount that will ever equal David's life, so this campaign will do everything in its power to secure as many relief funds as possible for the McAtee family.
