<div>Hello, thank you for visiting this fundraising page in memory of Zane Martin (October 7, 1989-December 1, 2025) of Warren, RI. We're stricken with grief over the loss of a wonderful son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. Zane left behind countless memories and stories for us all to share, and he also left behind a one-year-old daughter, Callie, who lives with her mom in Bristol, RI.

<div>We're fundraising not for funeral expenses but to start a memorial fund that will go directly to Callie to help cover current and future needs, like direct care expenses and necessities, or education and enrichment as she grows up.

<div><strong>We believe Zane did leave behind some assets for Callie, but much of it is in the form of welding and mechanic tools in his shop space - not much use to Callie yet, at her age.</strong> Any funds he had are undisclosed to us at this time, but Zane was committing everything he had to make sure his daughter would want for nothing and be raised well.

<div>Anybody who knew Zane knows a couple of things about him. The first is that he was always looking for ways to help and support the people around him - family, friends, and strangers alike. He was never one to judge, but to rub a little bit of his salt in a wound out of love and playfulness, only when he knew you could take it. His gift for spreading laughter at difficult times was unmatched.

<div>The second is that Zane was the happiest he had ever been when spending quality time bonding with Callie. He adopted a rough and tumble demeanor while working in the trades over the years, but he harbored a gentleness that really shined through in its entirety when he was with his baby girl.
</div>

<div>This fundraiser isn't just our family asking for help in making sure Callie gets everything she needs and deserves. <strong>It's also a chance for us all to show each other how appreciated Zane was, to return some of the favors he did for each of us just by being in our lives, and to eventually show Callie how we all rally together for her, in Zane's honor.</strong> We're also working on a book of memories, which we can hopefully get enough of to compile an actual book, which we will gladly publish for everyone to enjoy, to give to Callie when she gets old enough (this may need to be in two versions, one for the younger child, one for when she's old enough, if you knew Zane...). Support Callie in Memory of Zane Martin

<div><em>Sometimes histories about people from the past become distorted due to overactive imaginations and just the passing of time itself. Like the childhood game of “telephone,” after so many retellings, it is hard to find where the facts of a story stop and where the fantasy begins. Take the story of Bathsheba Sherman as one example. No one knew her name or her history besides maybe a local historian or two, prior to being mentioned in the film titled, The Conjuring. In fact, most people nationally, and globally, had never heard of her until the movie came out in 2013.</em>

<div><em>The movie was said to be based on the files of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who had visited the home of the Perron family in the 1970s. The family claimed to have been tormented by evil spirits in their home in Burrillville, Rhode Island. Let me make this perfectly clear from the beginning, there was a real person named Bathsheba Sherman who lived in Burrillville, but she was not the person that the movie portrayed her to be. Bathsheba lived in another part of Burrillville. She neither lived nor worked on the old Arnold Estate, which was the property the Perron family purchased in 1971.</em>

<div><em>It was not until the 1970's that mysterious rumors sprang up out of thin air, ruining Bathsheba’s reputation posthumously. No one in town had ever heard of any questionable events regarding Bathsheba, but all of a sudden, stories were spreading like wildfire in this small community. Older folks who respected history became agitated by the false accusations, while the younger more superstitious ones wondered about the possibilities of this spine-chilling folklore actually being real.</em>
</div>

<div><em>In the movie, it was stated that Bathsheba Sherman was a witch who worshiped the Devil, sacrificed her baby to Satan and then hung herself from the tree in the back yard. This is false.</em>

<div><em>None of the so-called history that was told in the film, "The Conjuring", has anything to do with the real Bathsheba Sherman or the true history of the house on Round Top Road. It is a disservice to the memory of both Bathsheba Sherman’s family and that of the Arnold family that these horrific fabrications have been spread, whether it was done purposely or not. The facts are not hard to find with thorough research and diligent investigating by truth seekers. </em>
</div>

<div><em>The real Bathsheba Sherman was born on March 10, 1812, to parents, Ephraim Thayer and Hannah Taft. Ephraim's first wife was named Bathsheba Pain. It is safe to assume that his daughter was named after his first wife or a relative in the family, as that was quite common given that time period. Another point to mention is that Bathsheba never worked on the property of the Old Arnold Estate, nor did she care for a child that died on the property. She was never accused of being a witch, nor was there any accusations of any accidental death or murder involving either Bathsheba or any other persons or infants.</em>
</div>

<div><em>By the age of 32, Bathsheba married Judson Sherman, and soon after the couple started a family. Judson Sherman passed away on October 1, 1881, at the age of 68 years. Bathsheba remarried, this time to Benjamin Greene. Bathsheba eventually succumbed to old age, dying from a stroke of paralysis in her bed at home, on May 25, 1885. She was buried with her first husband. All of the Sherman’s children are interred at the Cemetery in Harrisville with Bathsheba, Judson and Bathsheba’s family. None of the children died of any suspicious or questionable circumstances. As you can see by the documented records, Bathsheba Sherman died an old woman in her bed at home. <div>Over the years Bathsheba's grave has succumbed to the effects of time and the elements, but it has also been a target for vandalism due to the slanderous lies that have been spread about her courtesy of Hollywood and the film "The Conjuring", as well as other paranormal programs which choose to continue to recite a false narrative rather than spending the time to do the research, like I did, to set the story straight once and for all.

<div>Thankfully with the work from local historian and friend Kent Spottswood (R.I.P.), Norma Sutcliffe, Shannon Bradley-Byers, Kenny Biddle and myself, there are some people out there willing to search the archives to tell the true story about Bathsheba so that her name is no longer sullied.

Replacing Bathsheba Sherman's Headstone

Some of you may have heard about a fire at my parent's home, and I'm here to ask for help! <br /><br />My family has been through tremendous struggles in the past year. My dad has kidney failure, and his health has been on a vicious downward slope. He recently became unemployed due to the inability to work any longer. He is currently on a donation list for a new kidney, and goes through dialysis at home every single night. He struggles with the regular activities of daily life that we all take for granted. Recently he went in for what we thought would be a quick, normal appointment, and actually died on the table for an entire 5 minutes due to a medical mishap! Our hearts all stopped along with his that day, and we are more than thankful and blessed that the team of doctors were able to revive him! He is still in recovery and overcoming the trauma that comes along with such an experience.<br /><br />Some of you may know my brother had open heart surgery last year, and has also been on a downward slope health wise. The surgery did not go as well as planned and he has been having major complications and has suffered a few heart attacks, and has been in a hospital room more than he has been home! <br /><br />The pressure has been ON for my mother, taking care of both of them as best as she can, completely putting herself and her health last. She is a diabetic and has been suffering with arthritis in her back, this has been a rough year on her as well, medically and emotionally. <br /> <br /> At 5:30 pm on Monday evening, a fire broke out in their backyard. A stack of empty cardboard boxes from my dad's dialysis supplies caught fire, it traveled under the deck and started engulfing the kitchen in just a matter of minutes. My parents and brother were inside the house, completely unaware of the roaring fire taking place just a few feet from them! An angel disguised in a FedEx uniform ran to their door to alert them. They did what they could in a panic to stop the flames, but it hasn't rained in weeks and it was so windy, there was nothing they could do but wait for help from the incredible crew at the Warren Fire Department.<br /><br />The next morning they received even more horrible news. Due to what seems like an impossible insurance policy discrepancy, they have no home insurance. Rebuilding their home is going to come completely out of pocket, and this won't be possible without some help. We are relying almost solely on the physical, financial, and emotional support of family and friends and our community. Some of the things on the list of what we need are a new window, wood, insulation and drywall, wiring, appliances, the deck, vinyl for that side of the house,  their cabinets are wet and falling apart, possible work on the roof, and I know their couches are all wet, and we need some kind of help from a cleaning company for the ash and water and the smell of smoke. <br /><br />I know this is the worst timing to ask for help, I know everyone is struggling in this time of the pandemic... But anything you can do to help, even if it's with information, we would be incredibly grateful for!
