<div>Our very dear friend, <strong>Christy Lee</strong>, (formerly with CWT) has been battling a very aggressive cancer for 3 years this Thanksgiving. Throughout everything, she has maintained a positive outlook grounded in her faith, amazing sense of humor, and emotional support of her family and friends.

<div>On Thursday 9/21/23 our local elotero, Pepe, was robbed of $2000 at gun point on 91st and Houston, where they’ve been vending for years. When I think of Pepe and his wife Paty, I think of what it truly means to be part of a community. From organizing a baby shower for a young mom in the community, making rice and beans for my graduation party, vending at local events, and caring for our SkyArt studio, these two people, and their kids, show up for their community and it’s our turn to show up for them.

<div>"My lovely baby brother, my only sibling, my Daniel. At 20 years of age, he was incredibly fit and healthy. He was an avid footballer and played for Comets, Hemel Aces and Hemel Town youth FC’S. He also played in the pre-academy development centres for Barnet FC and Arsenal FC.
</div>

<div>By trade, he is a qualified electrical service engineer. He worked on global and domestic projects:- from Google Offices in Germany to Cross Rail at Bond Street Station, London; Daniel was thriving in the early years of his career.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On June 9th, 2020, my successful, fun-loving, ever-smiling brother took a turn for the worst. What should've been a great gathering with his nearest and dearest turned into a life-changing travesty. His drink was spiked. My brother began suffering a cardiac arrest. His brain and spine were starved of oxygen causing devastating spinal cord injuries. He was in a coma for 25 days and we were told the dreadful news no family should ever have to hear - the diagnosis was he wouldn't survive or (if he was lucky) he would survive with brain damage.
</div>

<div>Daniel awoke and was tetraplegic.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After 2.5 years in 5 different hospitals, Daniel battled through every eventuality, and he finally returned home in December 2022. He is confined to a wheelchair and relies on 24-hour care. He has restricted movement of his upper body. He is totally dependent, needing to be hoisted in and out of bed and taken to the bathroom.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>At 23 years of age, Daniel is not giving up. He has the opportunity to regain the full use of his legs, to stand and walk once again, and to achieve total independence via an organisation called Neurokinex, in Hemel Hempstead, near his home. This will involve a lot of intensive and expensive rehabilitation therapy, but we are determined to help Daniel thrive once again.
</div>

<div>Only the first six sessions were funded by the NHS after which, each session is costing £63 per hour. Daniel began his rehabilitation on 16th January 2023, to allow his body introduction to movement once again.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>He has completed his six NHS-funded sessions (one session weekly from 16 Jan'23 to 20 Feb 23) and now a comprehensive rehabilitation program is being compiled by the trainers. This will range from approximately, a minimum of 4 sessions a week initially (whilst Daniel continues to build his strength) to a max of 8 sessions per week - costing from £1,008 to £2,016 per month (£12,096 to £24,192 per annum). He now requires funds so he can continue his rehabilitation.
</div>

<div>The rehabilitation sessions will last for a minimum of 3 to 4 years and thereafter extend to 5 years and beyond. The gofundme target is being set at an amount to ensure Daniel can focus on booking all his required sessions, without the added worry of finance. He also requires a Motability vehicle as a family car so he can venture out with his mum and carer to his sessions instead of paying for Wheelchair access taxis or being transported in his grandads' standard car, which takes approximately 15 minutes and 2 people to transfer Daniel into and out of the car from his wheelchair and is very painful and uncomfortable for him.

<div>He is incredibly elated and so full of hope at Neurokinex, whilst being assessed &amp; challenged on varying equipment. Let's keep his spirit and hope alive by ensuring he has the funds to allow for his continuous rehabilitation sessions.

<p>Leah Herrera is an 8 year old girl with a personality like no other. She is extremely outgoing, silly, can light up a room and can make everyone feel like they are her best friend. She has a loving family, with two older sisters, her fun mom, cool dad and 3 fur siblings!
</p>

<p>Last March, Leah started showing signs of hand tremors and issues with her eyesight at school. Leah’s mom, Jennifer, took her for an MRI at the recommendation of Leah’s Pediatrician and it showed 3 masses in Leah’s brain. No one could ever have prepared for the news the family was about to receive. After a surgical biopsy, Leah was diagnosed with a grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma on June 10, 2020. This is an extremely rare and aggressive cancerous tumor, especially for any child. Due to the part of her brain where the tumor was located, surgery was not an option. Her treatment started almost instantly, including a combination of intense radiation therapy (or as we call it ✨SUPERPOWERS✨) 5 days a week for 6 weeks and multiple rounds of chemotherapy.
</p>

<p>Luckily with everything shut down due to Covid, Leah was able to continue going to school from home even while being in treatment. She was balancing her regular childhood with the battle of her life.
</p>

<p>There was a rollercoaster of emotions, there were good days and bad. But all adding up to one thing, Leah being cured and getting back to her “bitches be trippin” self. Never once did Leah look at herself as a kid that was sick, she kept her mind and heart open to the world in the way she has all along. Being the strongest person anyone has ever seen. Stronger than any tumor, any treatment and any cancer.
</p>

<p>Leah had finally started showing signs of improvement, living the life that her family wanted her to have all along while fighting this disease. She was smiling, dancing, laughing, all things that can easily be taken for granted. But in Leah’s case, they were gifts like no other and for her family, it was the positive signs that they needed.
</p>

<p>Fast forward only 6 months later, Leah began to show limpness in her left leg. She began to struggle to walk and move around, regressing from the progress she was beginning to make. Another MRI revealed one more tumor in Leah’s brain. Leah became part of a new immunotherapy clinical trial offered at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. The doctors said things would get worse before they got better with this treatment, but her family and Leah never gave up hope. She kept receiving this new immunotherapy treatment along with yet another round of radiation therapy and more chemotherapy. She began showing many side effects. After waiting the 6 months to let the swelling go down in Leah’s brain from all the treatments, her life made a complete 180 in the worst way possible.
</p>

<p>Leah has not been able to eat or move on her own for the past 3 months. She is unable to talk, smile, or even keep her eyes open most days. But everyone knows she’s fighting from the inside out, to heal, to feel like herself, and to tell everyone “I did it!”. If you’ve made it this far in Leah’s incredible story, I want to say thank you.

<p>Leah’s family has just received the unimaginable words that Leah’s treatment is no longer working and the cancer continues to grow in her brain. With no other treatment or option left, all we can do is hope, pray, and keep only the most positive and healing thoughts in mind for Leah and her family. Although she is now only an 8 year old girl, she has touched so many lives to last a lifetime.

<p>After finding out this devastating news, both of Leah’s parents have decided to stay home full time and dedicate all of their time to her. Staying by Leah’s side every single day, helping her, feeding her, and keeping her spirits up even when theirs are down. Her mom has become a doctor herself, and her sisters and dad have been her rock through it all.

<p>Whenever you think of someone who will give the shirt off his back to help others, Ronnie Dryier is the name that comes to mind. He is a loving, supportive husband, father, and friend to all of us. Whenever someone needs something, Ronnie Dryier has always been there for so many of us!
</p>
<p>Ronnie is a sports fanatic, and he has been inspired by Jimmy Valvano’s (Jimmy V’s) speech... “Don’t Give Up, Don’t Ever Give Up.” While he was busy helping others, Ronnie never stopped to think that this speech would personally apply to him.
</p>
<p>For the past 2 months Ronnie has been stricken with COVID and he has been struggling to breathe every breath in his body. Ronnie has refused to “give up” against already incredible odds. Unfortunately, his lungs are severely damaged and he has been told that he will need a double lung transplant. He is currently being treated at Christ Hospital but is anxiously awaiting a transfer any day to the University of Chicago.
</p>
<p>Ronnie and his wife, Michelle, along with their three children have been part of the Chicago Ridge community for most of their lives. He has willingly and unselfishly volunteered at the CRAA (Chicago Ridge Athletic Association) for many years, often going straight to games and the concession stand after working a 12-hour night shift. That is the type of guy Ronnie is - thinking of others before himself.

<p>But now it’s time for others to think about Ronnie!

<p>Ronnie has been diagnosed with Advanced Pulmonary Fibrosis as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID). He has been in the hospital since May 26th. Medical costs of his current and future hospital care and prescriptions are growing and will continue to grow. We need your help to support Ronnie, and the substantial bills that are in front of him and his family. Hello, My Name is Rosana Sastrami. I created this Go Fund Me to ask for help as me and my 6 month Twins and son have been wrongly evicted from our home. During my high risk pregnancy I became disabled and unable to perform my duties as a property manager. My housing was provided through my employer, who wrongfully terminated and evicted me as I fought for my life during the last few months of my pregnancy.I filed and got a right to sue letter  to fight against being wrongfully terminated and evicted during a pandemic and lost.I am a hard working single mother who wants to provide for my family. With your help I hope to secure housing for my babies. I am currently separated from my oldest son because most shelters don’t accept male children over a certain age so I drive 2 hours to see my son. Single mom evicted during covid

Built in 1894, the Pink and White House sits on the corner of Central and Ohio, in Chicagoland’s Austin neighborhood, on the city's West Side. The home was purchased in 1986 by a Minister and a Chicago public school teacher, the parents of current resident Yolanda Anderson. When the Anderson's purchased the home, they dedicated endless efforts, both financially and physically,  to restore the property to it's fullest potential.  As a family, the Anderson's decided on the dynamic color of pink, because they believe it signifies love. This home color has made it the unique staple in Austin. While the home was in great despair when it was first purchased, the family worked diligently to update the home to fit their needs, while preserving the integrity of the original construction. Yolanda's father, Reverend Anderson, tended to the many needs that this older home required. However, in 2015, his heath unexpectedly declined, shifting the family's focus and support to his needs, and not the needs of the home. The Reverend's passing in 2017 prompted the home's quick and significant decline, diluting the home's historic integrity. <br />        Now, unfortunately, Yolanda Anderson and her mother, Wilhelmina, have found themselves in a very difficult position as they are not in the financial position to tend to the copious repairs that this iconic home needs. <br />       The famous home is recognized on social media outlets as a must see. "You have not been on the West Side of Chicago, until you have seen the Pink and White House." The controversy the unique color creates has led the home to be a landmark of creativity and curiosity in not only the Austin community, but the entire City of Chicago. The Illinois Humanities Association featured the house at the Austin Town Hall, and the Cultural Center in a Creative Expo, as one of the homes showcasing Chicagoland’s creative buildings, that have inspired the community. The pink and white house was covered on a 91.5 F.M WBEZ radio broadcast, and has been a featured article in the Austin Weekly. It was also used as a location for a photo shoot which is  featured in “The Fall,” a UK magazine.  <br />       Despite having applied for several grant programs, the family has had no success in their public pleas to preserve the home. While this has been undoubtedly discouraging, the tight knit family has depended on their faith, and one other to maintain positive. <br />     The West Side of Chicago has often been deemed with a terrible reputation for gun violence, neglect and drugs. However, the fact that the community represents a strong sense of perseverance, strength and care for each other seems to get lost in translation. <br />      Like the community, the house can be judged for its run down state, or misrepresentation of the nicks and cuts, scars and bruises. The house still stands through the punishment of the elements, its survival of two fires, and has protected the Anderson family when a less formidably made home may have not given them enough time to make it to safety. Like the West Side, it is a strong giant, in need of love, support, and recognition.  <br />        I humbly ask that you contribute anything you can to preserve this iconic neighborhood staple. Every little bit helps, and I can not think of any family more deserving of help than the Anderson's. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with them as their real estate agent when they made the difficult and emotional decision to sell their family home. Now, as a friend, as the home is taken off the market, I hope to aid them in finding the funding to restore this one-of-a-kind home. <br /><br /><br />Thank you for your time and consideration. English:<br />On Monday the 10th of June 2019 my brother Alfred passed away, leaving us all torn apart. <br /><br />Aside the pain we have also faced the complex task of bringing him back from Thailand,so he may rest in peace close to his family and friends.<br /><br />Alfred not only supported our family in Venezuela, but he also supported and brought me over from Venezuela to live with him in Madrid. <br /><br />It was in Madrid that I helped him with the business that he had just started and was so passionate about.<br /><br />Many of you have asked how to help us. Many have also suggested that I start a campaign to raise funds to help my family and I dealing with this horrible situation. On July 4th at around 7pm, my grandfather Rodolfo Rodriguez  whose 92 years of age was going for his daily walk around the block when he was assaulted by and African American lady and five other guys. 92 Yr old Man Brutally Attacked.

Ismail M. Abdulle was found beaten to death in his cab in the Chicago suburb of Blue Island. His funeral is today. On September 30,2016 Courtney was burned in a horrific camp fire accident involving gasoline.  Courtney spent 51 days in ICU Burn Unit and has undergone Many surgeries and skin grafts. The doctor estimates around 12 more surgeries in the next 2 years.  Two weeks after her release from the hospital, her husband abandoned Courtney and her four year old daughter.  This left Courtney with no income and with the severe injuries to her hands, it is uncertain that she will ever return to work.  Courtney is being forced to leave her home because of financial difficulties along with her mounting medical bills.  A small group of loving people are desperatly trying to build Courtney and Caroline a small home on her family's land. We are in very desperate need of funding forher huge pile of medical bills that keep rolling in as well as cosmetic surgery in the future to restore mouth, ear and nose to a more normal appearance.  As well as providing finances for her and Caroline a future considering their difficult situation. <br />You can follow Courtney's road to recovery at FB. Burn Victim Courtney Cosper Waldon

To say Brian is well loved is an understatement. He is a strong, kind and giving person who's love for others shines through in his actions and words.  He has worked at the Grillroom Chophouse and Winebar for approximately 4 years, and last month he received devistating news. <br /><br />After going to the ER with what he thought was the flu, Brian was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma. Brian did not have health insured at the time and he was refused treatment by Northwestern Hospital. Via the Affordable Care Act, Brian purchased health insurance immediately after his diagnosis and was recently notified that Blue Cross Blue Shield will now not cover any of his much needed treatments. Brian has been to several hospitals and each have refused to treat him without insurance. Meanwhile, Brian is in constant pain.  He is also now faced with the burden of not being able work and the stress that presents to his personal finances and daily life.  Paying for expensive medication and treatment is not something anyone really prepares for.<br /><br />Brian’s cancer has now spread to his L2 lower back vertebrae, T4 right rib, left axilla lympnode, left lymphnode above clavicle, right lung node, and spine. The cancer is spreading fast and time is crucial! In order to fight it we must find him help fast!<br /><br />Our team at the Grillroom is a family and we are hoping to raise enough money to get Brian treated immediately. Tipping Our Hat To You Brian

The only treatment doctors here recommend is chemotherapy to attempt to shrink or slow down the tumors. Our world has been turned upside down every second since that moment. <br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/16002985_1479100061.843_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" />Carol is my wife and mother of our four wonderful children. She has been beating the odds ever since I met her. We started dating very young and had our first child while she was a freshman at Loyola University Chicago. It reminded us why we named our first child, ‘Faith’, 18 years ago. We have been praying and asking for a sign or a miracle. We’ve talked about the miracles we have already witnessed. There’s an old Mexican tradition that I watched my dad practice in San Juan de los Lagos, when I was a child. He made a promise to God that we would return every year, if God would make my eyesight better. He would get on his knees and pray the rosary from the entrance of the church and crawl all the way to the altar. It worked; my eyesight improved dramatically as I grew up. Last week, we visited the Shrine of our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines, IL. I got on my knees and prayed the rosary, with all my faith, as I crawled towards the shrine. The next day, my sister happened to show me a photo of a stone with our dad’s name on it that our family recently had dedicated to him. I had no clue that his stone was placed in the ground at the shrine in Des Plaines. I realized that I had crawled right over my dad’s name the night before, performing the same ritual he taught me 35 years ago for someone I love as much as he loved me. It was a sign. The same day, Carol’s cousin texted her the link to Hope 4 Cancer. It is the only place that we’ve found able to <strong>CURE</strong> the same diagnosis Carol has; another sign.
