<div>On the 10th of February 2025 our father (Woonun) Wayne Williams passed suddenly. Dad was diagnosed with a non-operable, non curable advanced stage of Larynx Cancer. Dad was openly diagnosed in November 2024 &amp; had transferred from Townsville Hospital to Cairns where he then began radiation treatment to help ease the symptoms of the tumour as the tumour was sitting up against his vocal cords. As a result of the tumour dad had a peg tube inserted into his stomach as he wasn’t able to swallow. The cancer was in advanced stages &amp; the radiation was merely to help with symptoms. He was palliative but we were never given a timeframe &amp; he wasn’t technically at “end of life”. We thought we had more time, he thought he had more time.

<div>Dad came home early to Mornington island to attend the funeral of his uncle &amp; was set to head back to cairns for his last round of radiation which was on the 18th &amp; 19th of February.

<div>In the last three months of life dad was trying to access his supers and organise financial support for himself to help his children pay for future expenses. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to access or even find any of his super.

<div>Dad had traveled the country and the world showcasing his Lardil culture which he was more then proud of. Studied at AIDT now NAISDA &amp; was later a cultural tutor for many years. His culture was so important to him.

<div>We would love to give dad the send off that he deserves. As we would like to cremate him which was he wishes, for each child to have a part of him &amp; the remaining ashes to be returned to Birri, his country, The expenses for cremation &amp; sending his body to cairns is something we can’t afford. This GFM is purely to pay for his wishes to be granted! At this stage, no funding is available to cover the costs.

<div><span>Dad’s last few months of life were spent out on the mainland of Mt Isa , Townsville &amp; Cairns. Spending time with his children &amp; grandchildren whilst receiving treatment.</span><br />

<div>Dad yearned for his island home and his country of Birri. Fortunately the day before passing he made the trip out to country &amp; then passed peacefully loosing his battle with cancer.

<div>Upon dad’s death it came to our attention that dad had been diagnosed 10 years ago &amp; had never mentioned this to anyone.

<div>He fought &amp; dealt with this on his own for 10 years before allowing us in, in November 2024.

<div>At about 1:00am on 9th March 2023 a fire completely destroyed Stephanie's house and all her belongings. Nothing has been salvaged. Thankfully, no one was injured.

<div>Stephanie is already facing financial distress and has been unable to work recently due to the foster care system not supporting people with appropriate identification documents post-care, blocking her from renewing her working with childrens check despite having worked with the Department of Education for the past 20 years. 
</div>

<div>All support funds raised will be used for rental bond, clothing, furniture and other home set up costs.

<div>Jenny Munro, as you may or may not know was rushed to hospital last Wednesday on Invasion day after falling extremely ill while trying to attend the rally here in Sydney.
</div>

<div>We were later told by doctors that she had suffered from a slight heart attack. She’s since had 4 bypass surgeries as it was a lot worse than first suspected. We were told that she has had heart attacks in the past but did not know at the time which speaks to a much bigger issue she and many elders and land rights stalwarts have experienced. After spending a life time breaking barriers and fighting for her people’s rights she has neglected herself in the process.

<div>I am now asking this same community and our wider community at large that my mother has nurtured and influenced to help care for her in our time of need.

<div>Jenny Munro is a proud Wiradjuri woman from Erambie Mission, Cowra. She has been involved with Aboriginal organisations and Aboriginal Land Rights since she followed her older siblings Paul and Isobel Coe to the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in 1972 at the age of 17.
</div>
<div>Her first job was at the Aboriginal Medical Service where she was mentored a long with many others by her Aunty Shirley Smith (Mum Shirl).
</div>

<div>In 1978 she began working at the Aboriginal Children’s Service. She was a member of the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) in its early days, and one of its first chairpersons. Jenny has held many positions in Community Controlled Organisations and helped take those frameworks national with the establishment of the Land Council on Erambie Mission and the Aboriginal Legal service in Moree while having and raising 7 children and adopting many more.

<div>Mum was the chairperson of Metro Land Council which was a volunteer position and in that time she was heavily involved with the campaign to have The Day of Mourning and Protest site heritage listed and protected.
</div>

<div>She is one of the founding grandmothers of the Redfern Aboriginal Tent Embassy and an authorised delegate of the 2014 Freedom Summit.
</div>

<div>Jenny Munro more recently has suffered many setbacks due to stress and health problems which were exacerbated after she and many others walked from the Uluṟu statement from the heart workshops in Yulara.
</div>

<div>Mum has given her all to her people now we need that love and support more than ever.

The past two years we have worked our hearts out to get as many Happy Boxes as possible to women in need, but we have reached our capacity with our current model. It is time for us to take the leap into the next phase which will most certainly result in a whole lot more 'happy'. But we need your help!

<div>We have always prided ourselves on the way we use the money donated to us via our website. The money raised goes directly to building and shipping Happy Boxes. Therefore we have decided to raise funds separate to our website so there is FULL TRANSPERENCY on where the your money will go.

<div>We need your help to fund a space for us to operate from. We have found THE PERFECT place to call our home. Nestled amongst the Toormina community on Gumbaynngirr Country is a beautiful house waiting for us to move in. It will not only be an office space, but a storage facility and packing venue so that we can safely enlist the help of more volunteers. AND over time it will become a place of connection for local Aboriginal women. A safe place for mums to 'drop in', hand their babe over for half an hour and have a hands free cuppa. A place women of all ages can come to enjoy self care workshops. A place for women to simply BE with other women.

A Happy Hub

<strong>The Marion Magnolia Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer</strong><br /><br />Reverend Marion Tanfield has a story like so many cancer patients, except hers has a twist. <br /><br /> A beautiful lady, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, aunt, friend and Rev T to many. A lady full of warmth and compassion and who always is putting others first.<br /><br /> On the 5th June 2015, Marion’s world was turned upside down; she was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. Her fate told in ICU where she was recovering from what she thought was the intial surgery of a radical antegrade modular pancreatosplenectomy and to remove some tissue in her stomach. However, the surgeon decided to keep her organs intact as the pancreatic cancer had metastasised throughout.<br /><br /> A year earlier she had experienced pain in her side and went to see her doctor. Tests were done and bloods seemed ok, however she was told she had diabetes ( a common misdiagnoses of pancreatic cancer). For months Marion experienced changes within her own body that she had thought was the diabetes. In May 2015, a doctor’s appointment revealed her Billi Reuben count was high and more bloods indicated her tumour markers were up. After CT scans and MRIs were ordered a mass was evident and removal scheduled for June.<br /><br /><br /> The twist is this:-<br /> In true Marion style her eternal wish is to raise money for pancreatic cancer and research. As she truly believes that there is hope, early diagnosis is achievable and survival is possible. Like Marion, so many are diagnosed late and dying from pancreatic cancer, this is a powerful reminder of why research into improving early diagnosis is vital.<br /><br /><strong>ALL DONTATIONS WILL BE HANDED TO -<br /><br />THE ROYAL PRINCE ALFRED LIVER AND PANCREAS UNIT FOR PANCREATIC RESEARCH.<br /></strong><br /><br />Marion also hopes that her diagnosis will not be in vain and that she can help others in the future with fundraising for a cause that is so bittersweet to her.
