<div>On Saturday, February 22nd, citizens gathered at a town hall in Kootenai County, Idaho, to speak with elected members of the Idaho Legislature about important issues affecting their community. What should have been a peaceful and productive event, where people exercised their right to voice their concerns, quickly turned into a violation of Dr. Teresa Borrenpohl’s constitutional rights.

<div>In a shocking and unlawful turn of events, Dr. Borrenpohl was detained by an unmarked paramilitary squad—an unknown and unnamed group of individuals with no clear authority or justification for their actions. What’s even more alarming is that the local sheriff, who, instead of protecting Dr. Borrenpohl, stood by and filmed the incident on his phone after encouraging her violent removal.

<div>On Sat morning, April 20th, 2024, Hannah Ybarra woke up to see emergency vehicles fighting a fire at the house next door. The house where her mother in law (Melissa) lived with her husband (Phillip) and husbands mother (Paula.) She rushed over to see if she could help, expecting to see her family standing outside the house. Emergency responders were working to revive the one person they had pulled out (Paula), and they didn't know there were more people inside until Hannah told them.

<div>Although Paula was pulled from the fire, and revived, she later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

<div>Hannah started calling family immediately. She was able to reach her husband, who was deployed, quickly. Hannah's mother, Ilene, worked with the Red Cross to get Tim home as quickly as possible.

<div>Saturday was the wake of Melissa's mother who died a week prior.

<div>In less than 2 weeks, Tim and his family lost his grandmother, mother, step father (an active father figure through most of Tims life) and his step grandmother (also active in his family.)

<div>Hannah and Tim had moved next door with their young children last year. They looked forward to supporting each other and Tim eventually wanted to open a mechanic business with Phillip.

Heartfelt help: standing with family after tragedy

<div>Amanda &amp; Ray Topf, a homeless newlywed couple in Fayetteville, Arkansas, froze to death in the recent ice storm. Ray was an Army veteran. The fund will pay for Amanda’s funeral expenses &amp; other pressing needs of our 1000 person NWA homeless community.<br /><br />Update: Mandy’s funeral expenses have been covered!! The remaining funds will go to the two outreach teams that go directly to the homeless camps and distribute food and supplies. I’d love to give them each $1000 to buy what they need.

Amanda's Funeral & NWA Homeless Needs

Guys, as you now know, Jon and his wife Malin have a difficult and demanding path on which they will travel over the course of Malin’s treatment for Glioblastoma. <br /><br />While Jon and Malin are fortunate to have good insurance and the support of family and friends, there are inevitably going to run into times when having some extra help will be vital to ensuring Jon and Malin can keep up with her treatment, while also making sure  the twins can keep up with their schedules. <br /><br />I am starting this because Jon would never ask. So I will ask. Whether these funds go toward prepared meals, babysitting, hospital bills, hotel stays, etc. - it is irrelevant.<br /><br /><br />However,  Jon is hopeful that Malin can move to a facility closer to home in the near future. Helping hand for Jon and Malin

This fund raiser is to help pay for legal fees and associated expenses for 5 Moms who are suing the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH). The ADH regulates the licensed midwives, they have forbidden midwives from accepting clients who wish to birth out of hospital if they have had a prior cesarean. This leaves families who desire a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean at home, to birth unassisted. The ADH is deciding for these families which medical professionals they can hire and barring them from the services they wish to use. <br /><br />The ADH also requires the midwife client to have two mandatory risk assessments. The client who has already hired a midwife for prenatal care must obtain these risk assessments which are almost exclusively done at the health department, to make sure the client is “safe” enough to birth at home.  The assessments include pelvic exams and STD testing. If a client refuses to complete the risk assessments then her midwife will have to release her from care to avoid disciplinary action. This is COMPELLED medical treatment for these families and this must stop!<br /><br />This lawsuit will be to the benefit of current and future home birth families who wish to exercise full autonomy over their medical health. <br /><br />The funds raised from this will help to pay for continued legal expenses (filing fee, attorney fees, traveling to hearings, childcare for Moms to attend hearings) to help prevent the 5 woman named in the complaint from having to pay directly. <br /><br />We will be filing soon and your support would mean so much to the 5 local Moms, the home birth community, and to those who believe a competent adult should always have the final decision about their course of care.

<div>This story of a father’s battle against <strong>Stage</strong> <strong>3</strong> <strong>Colon</strong> <strong>Cancer</strong> is almost as unique as the man himself:

<div>“You have <em>cancer</em>” are 3 words you never imagine you’ll hear. But when <strong>Charles</strong> <strong>Kochel</strong>, a longtime pillar of his Northwest Arkansas community, woke up from a routine colonoscopy last September, he was greeted with this terrifying reality.

<div>But what makes his journey special begins with <strong><em>who</em></strong> uttered those life-changing words. The nurse of <strong><em>Charles’s</em></strong> G.I. doctor &amp; colorectal surgeon is no stranger to finding malignant masses in younger patients. Stage 3 Colon Cancer doesn’t share the same realm as Four-Leaf Clovers or Pots of Gold. In fact, they’ve joked that even if they found treasure at the end of a rainbow, it probably wouldn’t be enough. But as bills begin to pile, with no end to treatment yet in site, this little <em>Tribe</em> <em>of</em> <em>Four</em> can still sense some <em>Meaning</em> <em>in</em> <em>the</em> <em>Madness</em>. And if anyone can, this sweet family <strong>will </strong>find <em>Beauty</em> <em>in</em> <em>the</em> <em>Struggle</em>, <em>Beauty</em> <em>in</em> <em>the</em> <em>Ashes</em>. Already Charles has published a book during treatment, “<em>More</em>: <em>A</em> <em>Spiritual</em> <em>Guide</em> <em>to</em> <em>Mindful</em> <em>Living”.</em>

<div>I recently had the chance again to visit <strong><em>Kochel</em></strong> <strong><em>Hill</em></strong>, a special place where many have gathered in celebration over the years and all have felt welcome. But this time I bared witness to their stories, fears, laughter, and pain. While many months of chemo has left <strong><em>Charles</em></strong> weak, frail &amp; unable to work much of the time, his spirit is fighting mad &amp; seemingly invincible. He’ll take that positive attitude into surgery on March 25th, then stay in the hospital as <strong><em>Brooke’s</em></strong> team &amp; trusted colleagues at <em>Washington Regional Medical Center</em> cut this cancer from their lives. Two more surgeries follow, and further treatment plans will soon unfold, but in time, a full recovery is the <em>ONLY</em> acceptable ending to this chapter.
