Help Save Ella’s Life – Urgent Medical Support &amp; Life-Saving Heart Surgery

Ella is a sweet, bright young girl from Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She was born with a serious congenital heart defect (CHD) and has only had one partial repair. Now, as she grows, her heart is struggling to keep up — and her life is in danger.

She was recently hospitalized after suffering seizures and needs urgent tests, including a CT scan and EEG, to determine what’s happening. But in Nigeria, medical care is not free — nothing can begin without payment upfront.

The hospital requires a $150 deposit before any treatment can start. After that, it’s $50 per night just for the hospital bed. Because her family cannot afford it, her care is on hold, and time is running out.

This is not like hospitals in the U.S. — there is no free care, no aid, and no extras. Just basic treatment, often in difficult conditions. But the good news is that your dollars stretch farther in Nigeria. Even small donations can make a huge difference.

Ella’s mother has been unable to work while caring for her sick child, and they have no income or outside help. Too many children die because of lack of funds — but this doesn’t have to be Ella’s story.

Once she is stable, Ella has a chance at a second and possibly final heart surgery in Cincinnati, Ohio, if we can raise the funds to get her there. This would give her the real chance at life and health she deserves.

We are asking for your help:
- To get her the immediate care she needs in Nigeria
- To keep her stable in the hospital
- And to help her travel to the U.S. for surgery that could save her life

<div>This year has been filled with lots of changes for Emmanuella and her family. She is in school now, growing and playing with her peers. Glory started certified nurse assistant training on 12/4/2023. We still need to raise around $300 to pay for the rest of the training, supplies, uniform, and more. It would be great if we could raise over $500 this month to help with Christmas and birthday presents for the children, and for next semester's school fees as well. Every penny raised goes directly to supporting Emmanuella and her family with medical and school expenses.

<div>Emmanuella is currently hospitalized with pneumonia and the bills are escalating. She needs medications and testing to keep her healthy. School fees are due soon and her brother, Destiny, also needs a surgical intervention (thankfully a more minor procedure that can be done in Nigeria). I would love to send a a financial gift to the family by the end of Dec 31, 2022, and need your support. The family needs roughly $1000 to cover these various expenses as well as the kids of wages due to the current prolonged hospitalization. Any little bit helps, and sharing is the best way to spread the story. Emmanuella continues to be a miracle, and a testimony to what modern medicine can do for children in a country that so often refuses to help children born with heart defects. <div>Surgery was a success! She has a second repair about 1 week after the initial surgery and recuperated very quickly. So quickly, they are ready to head home to Nigeria very soon! We were able to reschedule her initial return flight, and could use additional funds to pay for that expense. When you donate and share, funds will go directly to the flight expenses as well as additional Covid-19 testing, and the multiple heart medications Emmanuella will need to keep her heart healthy and strong. Visas are in hand, and flights are being booked for later this week!! Emmanuella is on her way to have her heart repaired very soon! We are still in need of funds for an extended hotel stay in Lagos this week, testing for Covid-19, and other travel related expenses. <div>Emmanuella is a little girl born in Nigeria with a complex congenital heart defect called Truncus Arteriosus. She is in urgent need of open heart surgery to place a contegra conduit in her heart to correct her blood flow. Her story has touched my heart because my daughter was born almost 11 years ago with the very same heart defect. As a mother, I could not sit by and watch this child miss out on a chance at life just because she was born in a country without a pediatric cardiac surgery facility. Glory, Emmanuella's mother is working tirelessly to get her daughter the lifesaving treatment she deserves. Originally, Fortis Hospital in India agreed to take on Emmanuella's case for surgical intervention, however the surgery will now take place at SRCC Children's Hospital in Mumbai, India. I am working with several charitable organizations to coordinate transportation and arrangements in India as well as Nigeria. This situation is extremely urgent and your donations are critical!
