<div>Scholarships for Ghazza (SFG) is a Palestinian-led mentorship program that helps students from Gaza apply for higher education scholarships. With Israel destroying all of Gaza’s universities, students are left with no place to continue their education. Yet, for generations, Palestinians have valued education as a path to hope and opportunity. That’s why SFG exists—to guide students through the application process and help them secure scholarships to study abroad.

<div>Despite facing genocide, starvation, displacement, the loss of loved ones, and the daily struggle to access basic necessities, Gaza’s students refuse to give up. Many risk their safety just to find an internet connection and meet their mentors. They are intelligent, hardworking, and determined to build a better future, no matter the odds.

<div>SFG connects them with academic mentors who teach them how to write personal statements, apply for universities, request fee waivers, choose courses, and improve their English. Our goal is not to do the work for them but to give them the skills they need to succeed.

<div>Since starting, SFG has helped nearly 500 students, and we plan to support another 500 in the next five months. While we don’t provide scholarships, we guide students toward existing opportunities and help them tell their stories in a way that aligns with scholarship goals.

<div><strong>The Story Behind Scholarships for Ghazza</strong>

<div>Scholarships for Ghazza (SFG) was founded in August 2024 by Ahmed Issa after he and his family were evacuated from Gaza during the Israeli genocide. With 12 universities bombed and the education system destroyed, students were left with no way to continue their studies. SFG was created to help them find scholarships and pursue their education abroad.

<div>Gaza’s youth are highly educated and eager to learn, but many lack the skills to apply for scholarships—writing personal statements, preparing CVs, and navigating university applications. Ahmed saw this first-hand while helping students secure Chevening Scholarships. They had the talent and determination but needed guidance to present their stories effectively.

<div>That’s where SFG’s mentorship program comes in. Students are paired with mentors who teach them how to apply, refine their applications, and choose the right scholarships. SFG also collects and shares scholarship opportunities so students can easily access them.

<div>At its core, SFG gives Gaza’s students the tools and support they need to keep learning and building a future—no matter the challenges.

<div><strong> What SFG Mentors Do</strong>
</div>
<div>SFG mentors guide Gazan students through every step of the university and scholarship application process. They help students:

<div>Navigate applications and meet eligibility requirements.

<li>Write and refine CVs, personal statements, and scholarship letters.
</li>
<li>Communicate with universities and scholarship boards.
</li>
<li>Boost their English language confidence to communicate better.
</li>

<div>Mentors connect with their mentees primarily through WhatsApp and video calls, with support from an SFG organizer. They exchange documents, provide feedback, and ensure students stay on track. Mentors can also join weekly support calls with the organizing team for guidance.

<div>Each mentor follows a structured set of guidelines to assist students while maintaining a professional and considerate relationship. Their role is not to complete applications for students but to empower them with the skills and confidence to do it themselves.

<div><strong>How SFG Has Grown</strong>
</div>
<div>What started as a small team of two—founder Ahmed Issa and his former Chevening mentee—has now grown into a global network of over 1,200 participants, with mentors from around the world.

<li>20 volunteer matchmakers connect students with mentors and ensure mentees get the support they need.

<li>300+ mentor-mentee pairs are actively working on scholarship applications.
</li>
<li>The English Club mentorship team helps 150 students improve their language skills and prepare for TOEFL, IELTS, and Duolingo tests.

<li>The Student Support team reviews funding requests, covering test fees, university applications, internet, and electricity costs—with over 150 requests fulfilled so far.
</li>
<li>Our Scholarship Volunteer Team has compiled a comprehensive list of funding opportunities for Palestinian students.

<div>In just a few months, Scholarships for Ghazza has already made a significant impact, helping students secure life-changing opportunities. So far, SFG has supported:

<li>3 students shortlisted for HESPAL
</li>
<li>1 student shortlisted for DAAD

</li>
<li>And this is just the beginning. As the academic year progresses, we anticipate even more success stories from hundreds of SFG students who have applied for prestigious scholarships like Fulbright, Chevening, and Said Scholarships.

<div>So far, Scholarships for Ghazza (SFG) has been entirely volunteer-led, operating without formal infrastructure.

<div><strong>Our Vision for Growth</strong>

<div>We plan to introduce a structured cohort system, with two student intakes per year, each enrolling 250 students from various fields, primarily graduate and postgraduate levels—where most scholarship opportunities exist. Each cohort will receive five months of support.

<div>Louie Louie Ward Herbert died on Feb 19th 2024. Aged just 41
</div>
<div>Louie led a life of activism, community organising, courage, lifting others up, fighting for justice, friendships, and dancing like every body was watching.
</div>

<div>In his memory, and to help continue that passion, we are raising money for three campaigns dear to Louie’s heart: Acorn, Aid Box Community and Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Acorn, itself co-founded by Louie, is a community based union of working class people, including tenants, workers and local residents. Working as a mass membership organisation in cities across the UK to organise communities to win the power and representation we are entitled to.
</div>

</div>
<div>Aid Box Community (ABC) is a Bristol-based humanitarian organisation set up in response to the continuing refugee crisis. Working to ensure that the rights of refugees and those seeking asylum are respected so that they have the opportunity to achieve financial and emotional independence. We support asylum seekers and refugees with a free shop &amp; welcome hub, activity groups, signposting advice, a crisis fund and a befriending service.

<div>Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) is a community of people working together to campaign for Palestinian rights and freedom: for peace, equality, and justice and against racism, occupation, and colonisation. We believe in people power. The more of us standing together, raising the call for justice and equality, the louder our voice. We know that united we can take on the might of governments, corporations, and the media – and we can win.

Louie Louie’s Legacy.

i always said if i had a platform i'd use it for raising awareness or help in any way i can do so. if i have a voice i'd speak up for those who need to be heard. (posted with permission/consent) This is James,He's Been Homeless since 2017 that's 7 years,Both his parents unfortunately passed within 4 months of each other from Cancer,he has no other relatives and is living homless in the streets of newcastle because Universal credit took 22 weeks to accept his case and due to this they would only backdate so much leaving him with next to nothing and in arrears regarding his rent,he tried to appeal and went to court to discuss&amp;agree to make a payment scheme to pay off this while also getting housing support but they refused,this leaving them to kicking him out and nowhere to go,some or many of you might know him as the man that makes friendship bracelets as his only way of making little to no money,however i've known james for almost a year and a half,brought him food/money,clothing anything that i can to help&amp;had many conversations with him and he's of of the nicest and respectful people out there who is always asking others how their day has been or tells them that they are appreciated. james also has type 1 diabetes which is serious for someone in his condition. Yesterday i happened to see him again,he currently has a tent and a few belongings where he stays in town,however sometime during the early hours of Monday morning he found a letter stuck to the outside of his Tent/only home,asking him to leave by 4pm otherwise they will take legal action to remove him&amp;his belongings... what upsets me is the sense of community newcastle once had,the caring hand to help others,why suddenly are the system trying to take and take from those who have nothing left to give? from those who are vulnerable and need help. I don't want james to be yet another person that falls through the cracks and is forgotten about because no one heard his story,or spoke up for him,and so i have set up a go fund me to raise any money we can to help this gentleman get what needs so that he can live a normal life again and take care of his health. <strong>#KillTheBill: Bristol legal support in the streets and in the courts<br /><br />**UPDATE:</strong> There have now been more than 60 arrestees from #KillTheBill protests in Bristol. Just before Christmas, Ryan Roberts was jailed for 14 years for his part in the demonstration. The state is coming down hard on everyone who took to the streets that night - and this January, Bristol Defendant Solidarity will be back in court to help people fight a fresh round of cases.<br /><br />So far, 13 people have been sentenced to a total of over 49 years in prison. From the end of January to end of August 2022, we already have 26 riot trials set for Bristol Crown Court, with more to come. We urgently need your help to support them. We'll be closing this crowdfunder on 4 February, and this is our last chance to find the money we need to support people as they face the legal system. If you can, please donate and share today to help us reach our stretch goal of £30,000 so we keep supporting people through the court process.<strong>**</strong><br /><br />People in Bristol standing up to unprecedented new police powers have faced <a href="https://www.thecanary.co/opinion/2021/03/24/last-night-i-saw-the-most-violent-and-disgraceful-policing-ive-ever-seen-in-the-uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">immense police violence</a>  since Sunday March 21st. The last week has seen police charging crowds with horses, releasing attack dogs on protesters, pepper-spraying people indiscriminately and physically attacking journalists. Those arrested will face harsh charges as the state seeks to make an example of them.<br /><br /><strong>We believe that no one taking part in protests for social justice should face the system alone. If you do too, please donate.</strong><br /><br />Hidden behind the police statements branding demonstrators “a mob of animals” and the later-retracted claims of officers facing broken bones and punctured lungs, is the hard work of activists pushing for police accountability. <a href="https://twitter.com/BristolDefenda1" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bristol Defendant Solidarity</a>  (BDS) have been working for over a decade to support people facing police and state violence as a consequence for their activism. Now, we need your help.<br /><br /><strong>We are aiming to raise an initial £15,000 with a stretch target of £30,000 to support people following Bristol’s #KillTheBill protests.</strong> <br /><br />Avon &amp; Somerset Police already have a long history of committing violence in our communities. The proposed Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill currently making its way through Parliament would give <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CMRntv3B1f_/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">police sweeping new powers</a>  to criminalise protests, intensify the attack on Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities way of life, and increase the harsh effects of the criminal justice system with longer sentencing. And while people take to the streets to oppose it, the police have cracked down hard on the demonstrations. <br /><br />Depending on need, and in this priority order, we will use this fund to support those targeted by police in connection with the Kill the Bill protests by:<br /><br />• Supplying money for legal fees not covered by legal aid.<br />• Paying any travel costs to court.<br />• Covering loss of earnings sustained as a result of attending court.<br />• Supporting legal cases made against the police.<br />• Helping pay rent to ensure they can return to their homes after any custodial sentences.<br /><br />In the unlikely event of there being any money left over from this, it will be held by BDS to support people in a similar way in the future.
