<div>My friend Chad and his parents had their home taken by the Pacific Palisades wildfire. Chad is one of the best people I know; he's a musician, a community organizer, and for the past several years, has been taking care of his disabled parents. Chad's mom is paralyzed by Neuromyelitis Optica, a rare autoimmune disease, and his dad is blind. Chad is the best boss I've ever worked for and one of the kindest people I know. The fire took everything: clothes, possessions, and memories. His parents didn't have insurance on the home. Chad and his family need immediate financial assistance to help recover from the fire. All donations will go to helping Chad and his family secure shelter and critical supplies as they recover from this disaster.

Restore Hope for Chad and His Family

Our Dad, Randy Wilgus, was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension in April 2018. This is not the first time our family has been faced with this horrific disease. In 2015, our Dad loss his brother to Pulmonary Fibrosis. We miss our loving uncle dearly and wish he would’ve had more time with all of us. Pulmonary fibrosis is a lung disease that occurs when lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred. This thickened, stiff tissue makes it more difficult for your lungs to work properly. As pulmonary fibrosis worsens, you become progressively short of breath and dependent on high liters of oxygen. There is no cure and only limited treatment available so the disease is eventually fatal. Our Dad is a quiet, humble man who has spent the majority of his life helping others in need. He is a loving husband to Genia Wilgus, father to 4 daughters and 1 son, Peepaw to 6 grandchildren with two more on the way this year! Time with his family is his treasure, he loves us to the core of his soul. His life right now involves nothing more than being connected and dependent on a 50 ft hose for oxygen. Luckily he has portable tanks to make it to his pulmonary rehab and out of the house every once in awhile. These trips are short due to the amount of oxygen he requires causing his tanks to empty quickly. There are days his breathing is difficult and his anxiety “panic” takes over making breathing even more difficult. We recently were informed that our Dad is a candidate for a bilateral lung transplant. This is a blessing because we were told without a transplant his time may be limited to less than 2yrs. As the journey begins, there will be multiple trips back and forth to Northwestern Hospital. There will be an abundance of testing taking place including labs, expensive scans, and procedures. We are thankful they have health insurance but deductibles and copays tally up quickly. Some of these trips will be weeks at a time where expenses are not covered including gas, food, hotel,  parking, etc. These trips are going to involve his loving wife taking time off work without pay and this will be financially difficult since he has not been able to work since September. Our Dad never likes to ask for help and may even be embarrassed that we are putting together this page. Most importantly, we want to try to fulfill their financial burden but we can not do it without your help. We know our time is precious and limited and to see him suffer is the worst and hardest thing to endure but even more so for him. If you are able to help with anything at all, there is no minimum. I was in Cincinnati two years ago visiting cousins when I noticed a big change in my sweet, vivacious cousin Brianne.  She was experiencing severe neurological symptoms and I could just see the pain in her face.   Since then, Brianne has been diagnosed with a Chiari Malformation and POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), along with a host of other related conditions: Retroflexed Odontoid; Basiliar Invagination; Cranio-Cervical Instability; Mild Scoliosis; Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and a possible pending Diagnosis of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome.<br /><br />Chiari Malformation is a neurological disorder that causes a part of the brain to descend out of the skull and crowd the spinal cord. The pressure created causes many symptoms, some of which can be debilitating.  In Bree’s case, she will require brain surgery to correct it.  <br /><br />After much research, Bree has consulted with a team of neurosurgeons in New York City who specialize in Chiari Malformation and its related conditions.   In February, Bree will travel back to New York to undergo three different surgeries:  a skull to C-3 fusion and cervical  laminectomy; decompression surgery wherein a small piece of skull is removed to relieve the pressure on the spinal cord and an odontoidectomy which will relieve pressure on the brainstem. Bree and her husband will be in New York for about two weeks.  <br /><br />Bree has been amazing throughout this entire process.  She has been diligent in searching for answers over the past two years.  She has faced this and continues to face this with nothing but a positive attitude.  <br /><br />Bree has a wonderful husband, David; is a mother to three amazing boys; and has a very successful business as a hair stylist in her own salon.   Yet, her life, her family, and her career have all been affected by this illness.  Despite everything she is going through, her thoughts are with her kids, her husband, her job, logistics, cost, hotels, airfare, work, etc.  <br /><br />Of course like any other illness there is the added stress of a financial burden.  In addition to medical bills, Bree and David will have travel expenses as well as contending with lost wages.  Throughout these next few months, Bree needs to be focused on her recovery.  Therefore, I created this page to help relieve the stress of a financial hardship.  I’m counting on my incredible family and friends along with Bree’s to help this beautiful family through this difficult time.  Please give what you can and share Bree’s story to not only help Bree, but to also raise awareness for Chiari Malformation.  <br /><br />Thank you,<br /><br />Margie
