<div>If you’ve ever been to Volcom Skate Park or at one of our after-school programs, you’ve likely heard Coach Mank before you saw him — the unapologetically loudest voice on the concrete, shrieking out encouragements at the very top of his lungs, coaching children through their fear. That’s Coach Mank. And then you see him — kneeling beside a child, adjusting their stance, talking them through a drop-in with the patience of someone who truly believes in the magic of what a child can do when they feel safe, supported, and seen.

<div>He lives for these kids.
</div>
<div>Coaching isn’t something Mank does — it’s who he is. Every single day, his heart is focused on one thing: how to help children find joy through skating. That’s his mission. That’s his devotion. And if you’ve ever watched him work, you know — he gives everything. His time, his energy, his entire soul.
</div>
<div>When I first met Mank, he was out at the skatepark every single day — not always for a paycheck, not for praise, but just out of pure love — teaching kids to skate for free. He gives himself, day after day, to every child who shows up, asking for nothing in return but the sound of wheels rolling and laughter echoing.
</div>
<div>He’s the kind of coach who shows up on his day off.
</div>
<div>Who stays late because one of our students is so close to landing their first kick-turn and he can’t bear to leave them hanging on the edge of their first big moment.
</div>
<div>He is the kind of man who cries after sessions — truly cries — when a child who once said “I can’t” finally does. And he calls to tell me about it, so fulfilled by helping each student.
</div>
<div>To say that his whole livelihood is centered on bringing kids joy would be an understatement. It is his life’s purpose. It’s the way he loves.
</div>
<div>Recently, our beloved Coach Mank suffered a stroke during one of our after-school programs and as the paramedics were loading him into the ambulance, he was selflessly apologizing in fear that he was scaring the kids and feeling like he let them down.
</div>
<div>While he is thankfully recovering, the road ahead is steep and filled with uncertainty. And now — for once — <strong>Mank is the one who needs a village.</strong>
</div>
<div>As the Skate Coastal family, we feel deeply called to step up and support the man who has shown up for all of us time and time again. The one who taught our kids not just how to skate, but how to trust themselves. How to fall and get back up. How to be brave.

Help Allen Losi Skate Again<br /><br /><br />When skateboarding had nearly disappeared in the early 1980s, Allen Losi was one of the young pros who stuck with it. He pushed the technical limits and helped reinvent skateboarding for a new generation, which included many of us who were inspired by him and have now come together to help Allen. <br /><br /> <br /><br />It was on a foundation of technical vert skating pioneered by Allen, his Variflex teammate Eddie Elguera, Tony Hawk, and others that skateboarding re-emerged and was re-invented in the ’80s. Throughout the decade, Allen was at the forefront of both the competitive and cultural scene, continuing to push skateboarding’s limits and promote it around the world. Allen’s on-board exploits were well documented in the pages and on the covers of iconic publications like Thrasher Magazine and TransWorld Skateboarding, and in 2018 earned him an induction to the Skateboarding Hall Of Fame.  <br /><br /> <br /><br />This gifted athlete and skate pioneer, who was once among the best in the world, has been debilitated by CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome), a progressive disease of the Autonomic Nervous System that has him fighting to manage intense chronic pain. While CRPS is usually limited to one’s limbs, Allen has full body Type-2 CRPS, so every cell in his body is affected. <br /><br /> <br /><br />After being accepted for a new experimental treatment, Allen's doctors believe that he is on the verge of a technological and medical breakthrough. A new treatment has shown extreme promise in cases just like Allen’s. With this highly specialized therapy, and his complete commitment, Allen may be able to find a better quality of life. But maintaining his insurance and facing thousands of dollars in costs for these therapies and other uncovered medications have proven too much for Allen to do alone. <br /><br /> <br /><br />Since 2012, Allen’s so far spent over $350,000 on just medical bills, liquidating everything he owned, including his life insurance policy.<br /><br /> <br /><br />With the specter of gaining control of his condition, Allen is determined to improve to a degree that allows him to resume regular work and even get back on his skateboard, to relish the sensation of rolling and flowing—perhaps not as he once did, but enough to experience the stoke of skateboarding once again.<br /><br /> <br /><br />The international skateboarding phenomenon we see today has its roots in the innovations that Allen and his generation contributed. This GoFundMe campaign is an opportunity to show our gratitude for Allen’s contributions to skateboarding and the rich experience it’s been for all of us, and to help him return to a thriving and sustained quality of life.

He is a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He shows so much love to many of us. He is one of the most supportive and unselfish people that I know. We can all agree he is a kind and gentle soul. <br />Kelly needs our support more than ever right now. He was diagnosed with metastic testicular cancer earlier this month and has just started his chemo treatments for the next 3-4 months (maybe more depending on how the tumors respond to the chemo). <br />All money raised will go directly to the Jackson family to help with the every day financial stress of not being able to work during his treatments.
