<div>However, due to ever increasing attacks on the arts, humanities, and education, funding for the Scissortail Creative Writing Festival is facing major cuts, much like many of our other institutions. Your donations will go directly to ensuring that expenses for the 2025 Scissortail Festival are covered regardless of those cuts, and may even be able to support future programming.

<div>As a poet, it’s my set belief that we can change the world through our words and actions, that with the proper intent we can create a better world to live in, one of sustainability and peace.
</div>

<div>With that motivation in mind, I’ve decided to take steps to put that into action by launching a years-long world tour as a Poetry Ambassador for Peace.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Throughout this voyage, I will be connecting with local cultural institutions and various artistic communities to share an international message of solidarity and peace through music, art and poetry.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In an effort to expand and connect our global communities and poetry networks, I’ll be documenting this journey for both radio and television broadcast, which will also be made available online.
</div>

<div>Having located the perfect vehicle, a 2010 International Bus, I’m currently converting this into a mobile library and tour vehicle complete with a stage built from the wheelchair lift.
</div>

<div>Although much of the journey will unfold as the road and circumstances allow,

<div>that many tangents and side adventures will be taken in the natural course of the once in a lifetime opportunities that arise, the principle objective, that of connecting communities through poetry and the arts, will lead the way.
</div>

<div>Through existing and ever-expanding poetry networks, readings, performances, happenings and events will be scheduled to take place in cities and towns, at schools, universities, community spaces and more all around the planet, as I help to bring local voices onto a world sized stage.
</div>

<div>It’s my hope that through this goodwill poetry tour we can raise awareness of our own ability to build a different world, one where we work together as a true global community that builds upon the bonds of friendship and peace as the vision and way forward for a sustainable future for us all.

This celebration will honor the legacy and ongoing contributions of our city’s poets laureate, including Jeremy Snyder, D.L. Lang, and our current co-poets laureate, Jacalyn Eyvonne and Kathleen Herrmann.

<div>Dr. Genea Brice was named the Inaugural Poet Laureate of The City of Vallejo, CA. She has had the high honor of sharing poetry locally, nationally, internationally, and globally. It is her sincere delight and honest pleasure to use poetry as a vehicle for literacy.

<div>D.L. Lang is an internationally published poet whose work appears in 90 anthologies, including the Vagabond Lunar Collection, which is archived on the moon. She has authored 18 poetry books, including <em>Fighting the Solar System </em>(2024). She is a member of the Revolutionary Poets Brigade and co-founded Vallejo Poetry Society.
