<div><strong>WHY ARE WE FUNDRAISING?</strong>

<div>During the summer months, our temple becomes extremely hot, and the only way to solve the problem of removing the excessive heat is to use a cooling down split air-conditioning unit, which improves and regulates temperature within the room.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In August 2025, our International President and Presiding Bishop E.S.Henry announced that two new Air- Conditioning Units were to be installed to provide a comfortable environment for worship and to ensure better health for our congregants and visitors.
</div>

</div>
<div><strong>FOCUS OVERVIEW</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our congregation consists of various age groups, namely, young children, youth, adults, and the elderly. Hot conditions are distracting, and at times, this prevents our brethren from focusing on spiritual practices and sermons. Dehydration can also occur because our body's primary cooling mechanism in hot conditions is to perspire, which results in loss of water, salt, and minerals from the body.

<div>Extreme heat can also pose health risks, especially for vulnerable individuals like the elderly, the sick, and young children.
</div>

<div><strong>ADDITIONAL BENEFITS</strong>

<div>The ceiling fans which were already installed works well with the air conditioning unit to make the room feel cooler more efficiently, allowing us to raise the thermostat settings which saves energy and reduces wear on the air conditioning unit. The fan creates a breeze that helps dissipate body heat, evaporates perspiration, and it circulates the cool air from the air conditioning more evenly throughout the temple, preventing hot spots.

<div>Money was borrowed to purchase the air conditioning units to accommodate us during our annual conference, therefore, the sum of £7,000 has to be repaid by means of us fundraising.

Family and friends are now by her side, giving back and helping her, but she now needs a little extra support to finally complete the works.

<div>Her current position is that of the structural damage, and as such, with each passing showers of heavy rain, the leaks are now presenting at different positions in the roof and ceiling. She now has to place various buckets on the floor to catch the water. <div>We have embarked on a fundraising campaign, in aid of building a dedicated community Food Bank on our premises.

<div>The application process for a church to obtain funding is very difficult due to the eligibility criteria, so we rely on dedicated parishioners to host

<div>fundraising events within the church. The proceeds raised from in-house church events would not raise sufficient funds to cover the overhead costs of building a Food Bank. Building a Food Bank is reliant on us obtaining external funding.

<div>A Food Bank is a non-profit organisation, set up solely to help individuals or a family who are in crisis, and need access to an emergency supply because they cannot afford to buy food.

<div><strong>HELPING OUR COMMUNITY</strong>

<div>As a religious organisation we have been established for over 53 years within our local community.

<div>As part of our faith, we believe that our doors should be open to help those who need food. Prior to Covid, once per month we fed the homeless, low income and senior citizens. In helping the needy we do not discriminate.

<div><strong>WHAT'S GOING ON?</strong>

<div>Soaring food and energy bills have been the main causes behind the UK’s high inflation in recent years. Global prices for gas, electricity and other fuels began to increase from summer 2021, after pandemic related lockdowns ended and economies began to reopen.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We have heard media and social network coverage where low-income, the elderly and the vulnerable, were having to make the difficult decisions during the winter of whether to eat or heat up their homes.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>ACCOMMODATION </strong>
</div>
<div>Renting a property is extremely costly. Many local authorities have relocated a lot of families outside of the capital, because they have no properties to house them.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The homeless people on the streets throughout London, and the surrounding areas is at an all-time high. Croydon experienced a 39 per cent increase in people sleeping rough between January - March 2023, and the same months in 2024.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>THE FINANCIAL CHALLENGES</strong>
</div>
<div>Many people are now seeking help from debt relief agencies, where they have incurred financial difficulties in many areas.” Robbing Peter to pay Paul” has become the norm as people struggle to pay their every day bills.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Filing for bankruptcy or entering an IVA (Individual Voluntary Arrangement) to alleviate debt is becoming and has become too common.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>DEMOGRAPHICS</strong>
</div>
<div>Croydon is Greater London’s most populated borough, with approximately 390,800 residents (census 2021) With a projected growth from 2022 – 2041 of 7.9%. Croydon’s age profile is therefore expected to become younger.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Figures for 2022/2023 show that more than half (55%) of homeless people in Croydon are aged 25-44 years. 21% are aged between 16 and 24 years and 20% are aged 45-64 years. 3% of people aged 65 years and over are homeless.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As a whole 33.8 percent of households show one form of deprivation. Croydon features in the top third most deprived area compared to the other Greater London Councils.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>CHILD POVERTY</strong>
</div>
<div>This is of major concern. One in four children in Croydon grow up in poverty and there is a relatively high percentage of lone parents who are benefit recipient's with 3.1 percent of the population versus the London average of 2.8 percent and the national average of 1.9 per cent. Save the children UK said the latest figures are grim and prove that families are still very much in depths of crisis as inflation increases.

<div><strong>THE IMPORTANCE OF A FOOD BANK</strong>

<div>A Food Bank within the community, will allow the vulnerable access to food when they are at a crossroad, and need help.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>There are currently only 9 Food Banks in Croydon. We know there is an increased need for more Food Banks by speaking to people on a regular basis, we receive visits from strangers who walk into our church asking for food, also we have researched poverty in the UK (and particular in Croydon)
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>THIRD PARTY</strong>
</div>
<div>We will work closely with external agencies like GPs, hospitals, citizen advice bureau's, social services ect who will make referrals so we can give food to those who need it.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>WHAT CAN YOU DO?</strong>

<div>We need external funds to get this project started, and maintained until it is completed.
</div>

<div><strong>THE COST?</strong>

<div>We have obtained planning permission from Croydon Council to build the Food Bank, and a Surveyors report. The estimated cost to build will be in the region of £40,000.

<div><strong>As a church organism it is very difficult to receive a grant due to the eligibility criteria outlined by the grant funders, therefore, to raise funds we rely on our dedicated brethren to individually fundraise by sponsoring and hosting fundraising events within the church.</strong>

<div><strong>Currently we have an emergency situation at our Nottingham branch church where the boiler that heats the church has broken down. The minister in charge confirms that after several repairs were carried out, the boiler ceased working in September 2022, and requires a new replacement.</strong>

<div><strong>A certified gas engineer carried out an assessment for a new commercial boiler and provided a quote for the amount of £9,840.00, this includes labour and fittings. (break down of the quote and a picture of the corroded boiler can be viewed in the updates section below) </strong>

<div><strong>The boiler is urgently needed as the bitter cold winter months will soon be here. The church are using small heaters to provide warmth whilst the weather is mild, however, the heaters will not be effective during the winter season.</strong>

Mt Zion 7th Day COG Building Maintenance Fund

On the 8th April 2021 the La Soufriere Volcano erupted after forty years of being dormant. Several major explosions have occurred since then. Between 16,000 -20,000 people have been evacuated from the eruption area and the numbers are rising every day. Vincentians are being placed into shelters, and neighbouring islands such as St Lucia and Barbados. There are currently 80 schools and government buildings set up to provide shelter. The majority of these people have lost their homes, livelihood and animal stock. Experts warned the eruption can go on for weeks or even months and it is not known to what extent before it settles down. <br /><br />Being born and bred on the island and from the red zone village of Sandy Bay where everyone has been displaced and evacuated to shelters. I know there is a long way to go, however every little helps to those who can assist at this time of the crisis.<br /><br />We would welcome donations of goods/products as well. It is our intention to get as much needed supplies to the people in all the shelters on the Island as this could go on for some time. <br /><br />Thank you for your support and kindness at this time.

Volcanic Eruptions in St Vincent.

Since the beginning of the year the Goff's Oak Lodge has undertaken a range of activities to raise much needed funding for <strong>Scoliosis UK. </strong>This is an organisation that provides essential support and care for those who develop such life changing conditions of the spine.<br /><br />Connor is 12yrs old and from South Ockendon. In his spare time swims he for Romford Town Swimming Club. His Mum suffers severely with Scoliosis and throughout her life  has had a dozen major operations to correct the severe curvature in her spine. In support of the activities of Goff's Oak, Connor has put himself forward to help them raise money for a charity close to his heart. This Summer he will undertake to swim the Channel.<br /><br />Rather than dodging the delights of faecel floaters, he will swim the equivalent distance in his local pool. Due to the Equality Act 2010, which relates to access to services, we have to comply with the Building Regulations and European Standards to meet the needs of disabled people.  The building, therefore, must be free from physical barriers to enable all<br />disabled persons to gain access to the building.  <br /><br /><br /><strong>ABOUT MOUNT ZION 7th DAY CHURCH OF GOD</strong> <br /><br /><strong>The Mount Zion 7th Day Church of God was founded in 1882 in the United States of America through the efforts of dedicated Sabbath keepers. Through the same efforts it was brought to the UK from Jamaica.</strong><br /><br /><strong> The International Headquarters</strong><br /><br /><strong>The Mount  Zion 7th Day Church Of God started in London under the leadership of Bishop E. S. Henry.<br /></strong><br /><strong>In 1971 he received a special message from the Heavenly Father to evangelize. That same year C. D. Reid, the late Bishop and President of the Mount Zion Sanctuary 7th Day Assemblies of Jamaica visited the United Kingdom and ordained him as a Minister.</strong><br /><br /><strong>Pastor Henry and his family together with Pastor Parr and his family started a fellowship in Streatham South London. The fruitfulness of this ministry can be seen from the establishment of the International Headquarter Church in London and several branches within the UK and also incorporated and affiliated Conferences and churches in Jamaica, Guyana (South America), St Maartens, Pakistan, India, Kenya, Tanzania, and St. Lucia.</strong><br /><strong><br /></strong><br /><strong>Mount Zion 7th Day Church of God (UK International Conference)</strong> depends on the attendance of its members and visitors who use the building for general worship services and other facilities. A high percentage of people who attend our services are voluntary financial donators to the organisation. In order for the building to comply with the Equality Act 2010, a lift for the disabled at an estimated cost of £17,000.00 needs to be installed at the building. The voluntary donations we receive from our members and visitors are insufficient and therefore we are unable to meet the above cost.<br /><br /><strong><br />HOW CAN YOU HELP <br /><br /></strong>We are appealing to everyone who receives this to donate to this worthy and necessary cause. All funds raised will go towards the purchase and installation of the lift.
