<div><strong>HELP MICHALE GABRIEL RECOVER AND HEAL</strong>
</div>
<div>On December 15, <strong>Michale Gabriel, age 80, fell in her home </strong>in Costa Rica and suffered a <strong>severe fracture to her right femur</strong>. What followed has been a serious and ongoing medical crisis that has required emergency care, <strong>multiple surgeries, and extended hospitalization.</strong>
</div>

<div>Michale is still hospitalized. She <strong>cannot stand or walk</strong>, and she will need months of recovery and full-time care. We are raising funds to help cover the medical and <strong>recovery costs that she cannot manage on her own.</strong>

</div>
<div><strong>WHAT HAPPENED</strong>
</div>
<div>After her fall, <strong>Michale required emergency surgery</strong> that night to repair her femur with a permanent rod and screws. In the days that followed, she <strong>developed a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in her lung)</strong>, which required blood thinners to prevent a <strong>life-threatening complication.</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>At the same time, she began <strong>losing blood internally </strong>at the surgical site. The medication needed to treat the clot worsened the bleeding, causing <strong>a large and growing hematoma in her leg</strong>. Over the next 11 days, she required <strong>multiple blood transfusions,</strong> extensive diagnostic testing, and constant monitoring.

<div>On December 26, she underwent a <strong>second emergency surgery</strong> to drain the hematoma and stop the bleeding.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>She has now been <strong>hospitalized continuously since December 15.</strong> She remains unable to care for herself independently and is facing a long and uncertain recovery.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>WHY INSURANCE HAS NOT COVERED THIS</strong>
</div>
<div>Although Michale is a legal resident of Costa Rica and pays into the public healthcare system, the <strong>public hospital had no surgical availability for 6–8 days when she arrived.</strong> With a shattered femur and severe pain, <strong>waiting was not an option.</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>She was forced to seek immediate care at a private hospital.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Medicare does not cover medical care outside the United States.</strong> Her U.S.-based supplemental insurance may reimburse a small portion, but most expenses are out of pocket. Private insurance in Costa Rica was not available to her due to pre-existing bone density conditions.
</div>

</div>
<div>As a result, <strong>the majority of her care is not covered by insurance.</strong>
</div>

On September 8th, Dinesh was taken for organ donation, and his family is preparing for the most difficult moments ahead.

He has been the sole caretaker, juggling all the duties that come with it, from cooking and cleaning to driving and everything in between.

Support Scott and Alisa in tough times.

Steve &amp; Jerilee Drynan manage Three Rivers Humane Society  in Madras Oregon and Home At last Humane Society in The Dalles Oregon. They are hard working and well respected in both communities. On June 15th , 2020 Jerilee started having trouble making sentences and forming words. She was taken to the hospital in Madras. On the way she suffered a seizure. Upon arrival she was taken to the emergency Department where it was determined she needed a CT Scan. On the way to CT she suffered another seizure. Over the next 4 hours they performed various tests including a lumbar puncture. After exhausting their options they decided she needed an MRI of which they did not have the equipment. She was then transported by ambulance to St. Charles Bend. She went for the MRI that evening and it was determined that she has a 4mm x 7mm tumor over one of her speech centers in her brain. It is causing inflation and in turn causing her speech issues and seizures. She spent the next day and a half in the hospital finally becoming stable before they would let her go home. After meeting with a neurosurgeon is was determined that she now had an immediate  need for another MRI, this one is a functional scan and the tumor would then be removed as soon as possible. Fortunately the functional MRI has shown that the tumor is 1/2 inch above the margins and should be able to be completely removed without affecting her speech center. Jerilee will be out of work a totaling approximately 4-5 weeks with her husband caring for her. She and her husband both love their jobs and have some vacation to use but let's face it, you don't get rich working in Animal Welfare. The Drynans have no insurance, they fall into that familiar grey area where they don't qualify for the affordable care and the full premiums for the basic plans  are just too expensive. Thus have to pay for this out of pocket. This being the case they have small slush fund to pay for medical, this however far exceeds that fund. Jerilee was in early childhood education for Head Start and abuse prevention programs many years before changing careers to the animal welfare field. Throughout the years she has been there to help so many people and her passion and kindness have impacted the lives of hundreds of children and animals in her care. We are asking for your help to cover the costs of the lost wages, ambulance transport, hospital stays, surgery, and rehabilitation facilities estimating a total of $65000. Jerilee Drynan Surgery Fund

Cecil was diagnosed with a kidney stone that requires surgery.  In order to have the surgery, he first needed a procedure which would allow the surgeon to insert a scope for surgery, and Cecil and Kelli were told this was a necessary, routine and uncomplicated procedure. After the tube was installed, they were informed there was a little difficulty performing the procedure, but all was well now. <br />After they returned him to his hospital room, Kelli noticed that Cecil was getting paler and colder and asked that he be examined further, and she was told that the room was cold, and she shouldn't be concerned. After a length of time during which Cecil's pain became so intense he thought he was having a heart attack, a doctor was finally summoned, and they sent him for a CT, which did not alleviate anything. As they were about to take him to the ICU, another surgeon informed them that Cecil was bleeding internally and he immediately needed an angioplasty to find and stop it. They estimate he lost two liters of blood during this. A surgeon returned Monday to inform them that now his kidney is too damaged to retrieve the stone, and they cannot attempt this for a MINIMUM of two months. Cecil has been unable to go to work since August 7, and will not be able to return until November. At the moment, he is relying on the compassion of their friends and family, (and THEIR friends and families), so that they can continue stay in their home and handle basic necessities like electricity and food. There is no amount too small to be deemed unuseful in these situations, and it is needed urgently, as it's been a month already since he's been sidelined.

Cecil's Recovery
