Walid, a lawyer from Gaza, lost the Ahlam house that he and his wife Israa built. He also lost his law office. “He paid for it with everything he had. <div>I was destined to have a successful career and realize my dreams, but I found myself losing the city I lived in and any hope for a better future for it. After years of work, during which I worked hard for my daughters Iman and Waten, I saw the world in them. I did not withhold anything from them, but rather I saw the world through them.

<div>The war had another idea. Iman and her sister wateen to play, sing and have fun like any other child in this world. My children have become like vagrants, they have no clothes, no money, and no shelter. We don't sleep because of bombs. We may be the next target of this war, but we want to live. No, I want to lose my little children.

<div>Since the war on Gaza began, Walid has lost almost everything. On October 18 last year, just two weeks after the war began, 30 family members and friends were lost in one second, by a single missile. None of them survived, and everyone was under the rubble.

<div>When the occupation army wanted to blow up the residential building in which we lived, some shrapnel were scattered. On the body of my wife Israa, who is still suffering from it, as she no longer walks with balance. As for my daughter, Iman, she was injured in the head, and her hair, which she loved, was shaved off so that the doctor could sew up her head, which was bleeding.

<div>She cried a lot at that time, and her eyes were painful and swollen from the injury. The heart was crying for her, not the eyes. The house was bombed. Not only the house, but the entire residential building was blown up. We are now homeless, and we are all suffering from pain and sadness. But the grief now is not limited to our home only, but rather to the loss of not one person. 30 people were killed in the same second. My life was destroyed in a worse way when the law office I wanted to move to was bombed due to the house being bombed. I was left without a job, without a home, without an office, Without extended family. I fear that I will lose my daughters at any moment, like other families.

<div>I made it a mission to save myself and my family that I don't want to lose. I can't imagine my life without them. Hunger ate their bodies. The rash ravaged the body of my little daughter, who began to suffer from involuntary urination out of fear. She spoke to herself after she had been the most beautiful child. I want my children to survive, I want to save their future from all this and start again in a safe place, and before I lose another one of my family, I want all of your help so that I can start again, I don't want them to be killed by hunger. We are fleeing from missile bombardment, but hunger is chasing us. We no longer eat so our children can eat .

On October 27 last year, less than a month after the start of the war, my mother lost our only source of livelihood, a chicken farm run on modern energy, in one second. One missile was enough to eliminate our entire family's livelihood. My mother is the one who takes care of me and all my siblings.

<div>My loss does not end here, because for us Gazans, death knocks on our door every day. Every new day of war is the possibility of a new loss. On November 21, 2023, this shock, a month after my mother lost our only source of livelihood, a belt was made in the area where we live off 8th Street between Al-Zaytoun and Tal Al-Hawa, and it was like a big slap in my face (Where are we going?), it was a reminder. It is cruel that the continuation of the war causes great destruction. We had to flee except for this genocide, death is above our heads.

<div>I initially presented myself as a lawyer from Gaza with dreams, a girl in her twenties who had professional plans and goals that she wanted to achieve, a person who had lost a lot in a short period of time. But what is most important in this war is that I am the older sister who sees the future of her brothers being lost before her eyes. I also see my brothers who have not finished their university studies, my sisters who are still young and supposed to be in school, and my mother who found herself forced to start from scratch when she was supposed to catch her breath, raise her children and live a stable life.

Deprived for years of family and friends and the ability to establish oneself professionally, the nightmare does not end upon release. With no money, housing, transportation, health services or insurance, and a criminal record that is rarely cleared despite innocence, the punishment lingers long after innocence has been proven. This is a reality that current client Kevin Strickland could soon be facing.<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/57540893_1622751067507652_r.jpeg" alt="57540893_1622751067507652_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />For more than 41 years, Kevin Strickland has been incarcerated for a crime he did not commit!  The state of Missouri has robbed him of his youth, his health, and much of his life’s potential. He has largely lost the use of his legs and now uses a wheelchair. All for a crime he did not commit. All while the real perpetrators—to the extent they were prosecuted by the State—have long since been freed. All while there is overwhelming evidence of his innocence. <br /><br />On May 11, 2021, Mr. Strickland’s attorneys, led by the Midwest Innocence Project, filed a Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus with the Supreme Court of Missouri to discharge Strickland from prison based upon illegal confinement and the record before the court.  Even the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney is requesting Mr. Strickland’s exoneration. <br /><br />As of this writing Missouri Governor Mike Parson has been made aware of Mr. Strickland’s case and the overwhelming evidence of his innocence.  At any time now Governor Parson could commute Mr. Strickland’s sentence or issue a pardon.  <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/57540893_1622751128329237_r.jpeg" alt="57540893_1622751128329237_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" />L.R. I have been working alongside humanitarian aid groups, decorated military veterans, and activists on the ground in Kabul, fighting to save people who otherwise have no chance at survival in the Taliban-occupied Kabul.<br /><br />The individuals in question are high-value targets - Afghan men and women who have worked as human rights lawyers, champions of Women’s and LGBTQ rights, journalists, government liaisons, artists, and interpreters - all of whom are at <strong>imminent risk of being executed by the Taliban,</strong> along with their families. We will be taking full family units.<br /><br />If these people do not get rescued as soon as possible, neither they nor their family will make it through the month. The Taliban have a KILL LIST and are going door to door, searching for these people and reportedly <strong>killing them on sight if found</strong>. Every one of these individuals on the manifest have been vetted.<br /><br />Due to the rapidly deteriorating situation in Kabul, this rescue mission will only be possible if $550,000 is raised to fuel 2 airplanes to fly into Kabul from a foreign country.  <strong>If we raise twice the amount ($1,100,000), we’ll do another run. There are enough people in need to make many round-trips with our two airplanes. We will continue multiplying as goals are met. </strong><br /><br />With help from people on the ground in Kabul, and the newfound security of the airport due to increased US presence — we have arranged for a <strong>safe onboarding process</strong>. All of the people who will be boarding the planes have been extensively vetted.<br /><br /><strong>Every $1,500 raised represents a seat on one of the planes, and a life saved.</strong><br /><br /><strong>Please share wide and far, as hundreds of lives are at stake.</strong><br /><br /><strong>FUNDING</strong><br /><br />The money will be paid to and distributed from Raven Advisory, LLC, based in NC.<br /><br />Any overages in funds raised beyond flights will be donated to the International Women’s Media Foundation, who are actively helping with this rescue effort + settlement, to help the people we rescue start a new life. <br /><br />Destinations have been secured to allow our planes safe passage + landing, and locations cannot be disclosed until the flights have arrived safely.
