Single mum in need

Omar is our brother, our son, and a dear friend to many. On Thursday 10/25 he was playing soccer with friends when he suddenly collapsed. He suffered a cardiac arrest at the age of 22.  Omar's heart was stopped for over an hour. He's now in the hospital on full life support. But he's fighting.  Those of you who know Omar aren't going to be surprised, he is tough and he is a fighter. He's battling through every hurdle in front of him, but he's facing a lot of complications. He has blood clots next to his heart that are putting his life at risk currently, and will have to have one of his legs removed.  But despite everything, he's been able to respond to his family and to the doctors. It's a miracle that his brain has responded this well.  Omar's pushing through. But he needs your constant prayers, and any donations are greatly appreciated.  Jazakumullahu Alf Khair

ABOUT US: Omera means one who possess an inspiring and great personality and enjoys having a positive attitude. Omera Productions focuses on creating educational products for African-American children. There have been many studies conducted that show the lack of positive representation of African Americans, particularly in the media and within educational institutions affects the self-esteem of children. According to research, this has a damaging influence on the mental and physical development of African American men and women. When it comes to youth and the negative images they see or the under representation of images that look like them, research shows that expectation and academic performance is lowered due to those negative stereotypes.   It is our goal to provide African-American children with inspiring and positive educational products.  These products will promote healthy images of African Americans as well as provide uplifting historical stories—stories that they don’t teach you in school.  In addition to our products we also have a blog and podcast that focuses on various topics that affect the African-American community.  Our talk show guests  discuss and provide solutions to many problems that we face in our communities today.  As a supporter you are encouraged and welcomed to engage in the conversation and share the information with others as we work collectively. As-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu (May the peace and mercy of God be with you) Dear Sister/Brother,  I pray this letter finds you and your family in the best of health and spirits.  I have been an active member of the American Muslim community for over 40 years now, having spent more than half of that time in Northern Virginia working for and volunteering with several Islamic organizations and schools.   In 2011, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease (PD) as well as chronic neck and back pain.  Two years later, I was forced to stop working and apply for disability benefits.   I continue to have out-of-pocket expenses related to (PD) and pain management.  Unfortunately, my insurance does not pay for the treatments and my modest disability income is not sufficient to cover them.      In 2016, I started a campaign to raise funds to help cover the cost of doctor’s visits, medical procedures and treatments/supplements.  Thanks to the generosity of so many people, I surpassed my initial goal.  After several people have asked how they can help on a continuous basis, I decided to reopen the campaign to help cover my on-going monthly costs.     I thank and appreciate all of you for your prayers, encouragement and monetary support.  Please feel free to pass along this request. EVICTED: BLACK FARMERS' LIVES MATTER, TOO African American farmers of our land are still faced with extinction. Their land is being taken away. It is a well kept secret to many, but to some of us it is all too real. The story of a 67 year old military veteran and farmer, Eddie Wise and his wife, Dorothy (to whom Eddie refers lovingly as (“my Brown Sugar”), is the latest example of the outrageous action by the U.S. government against a black farmer. Eddie and Dorothy Wise are shown on the right in the photo above. This was in better times. On Wednesday, January 20, 2016, around 7:30 a.m., at least fourteen (14) Federal Marshals in full military gear with full scale military guns drawn, along with several county sheriff officers, descended on the 106 acre farm in Nash County, N C, and forcibly escorted Eddie Wise and his wife, who was still in bed and suffers from a debilitating medical condition, out of their home and off the land that they have owned for more than 20 years. Not only did the Federal Marshals render Eddie and Dorothy immediately homeless and landless, but did not allow them to take any of their belongings except the clothes on their backs. They also insisted on “securing” every firearm legally owned by Mr. Wise. A Duke University Adjunct Professor, a friend of the Wises, took pictures and acquired some sound, but was summarily put off the property also. We will soon post those photos. They are chilling. Mr. and Mrs. Wise need our support to help them with everyday living expenses until they get settled. That includes food and lodging and related expenses. When legal counsel is secured, that will require more funding. A year ago, you  helped us raise funds to send farmers to a Black Land Loss Summit in DC.  That support is appreciated.  Right now, your contributions to BFAA, the Black Farmers &amp; Agriculturalists Association, will be earmarked specifically for Mr. and Mrs. Wise.  Please support them with your contribution to BFAA.

The USDA Did It Again

My name is Renelle  Scott and my husband is Curtis Scott, we have lived in Jacksonville, Florida all of our lives. We have three beautiful children Alex is oldeset (9) , Araya is the middle (8) and Alana(4).  On the 24th of October my kids wanted to spend the day at my mothers house, I dropped them off at 12:00 pm and my husband and I returned to pick them up at 6:00 pm. Alana and Araya begged us to let them stay, so they stayed the night and all I can remeber is my baby Alana telling me she "loved me " and she will see me later. Sunday October 25, I recieved a call from my mother phone and she was crying and couldn't talk at all, her friend across the street said my baby drowned in the pool. I felt like I died inside. My husband and I found ourselfves in a nightmare. When we arrived at the hospital they was still working to save her life, the doctor came and said that she was  sorry  but she was already unresponive when she arrived. I am asking for help support and love at this time , we didnt have insurance on her because we just never thought this would ever happen to her. Please keep us and our family in your prayers.

Last week, my brother Connor decided to go for a run on his lunch break while working as a lifeguard at Carolina Beach. As soon as he was done and tried to cool down, he knew something was wrong. His heart was beating out of his chest and he became nauseous and lightheaded. He was taken to the first aid tent where his BP was 80/50 and his heart rate was 270 bpm (not a typo). By the time he arrived at the hospital roughly 45 minutes later, his vitals were roughly the same. He was immediately given beta blockers which finally started slowing his heart down to a normal rate. The doctors told Connor later that day that it was a miracle he never went into cardiac arrest and made it to the hospital still conscious. That was a lot of stress on a healthy heart, let alone one that doesn't appear to be functoning normally. Now that Connor was stabilized, the doctors at New Hanover were able to start working on a diagnosis. He was subjected to numerous tests over the next 24 hours to try and figure out what went wrong with his heart. After hoping and praying for good news from the doctors, the diagnosis was devastating. Left Ventricular Non-Compaction Cardiomyopathy (see link) Also known as LVNC, it is an extremely rare congenital heart defect that affects around 1 in 1,000,000 births. So rare that New Hanover Regional Medical Center had never given this diagnosis before. Since Connor's doctors had no exposure to this specific defect, they began consulting with a team of doctors at Duke University and the Cincinnati Children's Hospital to determine how best to treat him. It was determined that he needed a defibrillator/pacemaker implant near his heart to prevent another life-threatening episode. After a successful implant surgery, he is back at home on bed rest for the next two weeks and limited activities for the next four following weeks. The family faces more questions than answers at this point... How limited is his future activity going to be? Can a heart transplant be expected in the near future? This is without question a life changing diagnosis that means Connor will be in and out of doctor's offices and hospitals for the rest of his life. Even with health insurance, this puts a great financial strain on our parents. Speaking for the entire Bannerman family, we will be eternally grateful for any amount you can give.
