<div>Texas ABJ empowers Black students in communications by providing members with invaluable professional opportunities and fostering a community that supports, inspires and uplifts.

<div>Last year, Texas ABJ officers attended the 2023 NABJ Convention in Birmingham with funding from the University. There, they attended panels, networked and learned more about the journalism and communications industry. The experiences gained were priceless, influencing not only our officers but also our chapter as a whole.

<div>This year, Texas ABJ has tripled in size and has hosted numerous guest speakers on campus. However, Senate Bill 17 has caused Texas ABJ to lose financial support from the university, rendering us unable to send our officers to this year's NABJ Convention.

Thanks to the support of over 40 people, we were able to send our six officers to the 2024 NABJ convention in Chicago despite reduced funding due to Senate Bill 17, the anti-DEI bill. There, our officers had the opportunity to learn and grow as journalists and leaders.
